Just a bit of advise please
I claim UC and want to know if my UC can be affected with my 2 year olds child savers account
it’s with my bank and I have both accounts on my app
is there a limit to how much she can have in or not
as I want her to have 15k + plus when she’s 17 for driving lessons and a car but don’t want my money affected as I have nothing I live hand to mouth
Thankyou x

I don't know how many more times I can say that UC isn't about poverty and still be ignored.

Yes, there are some benefits that are about plugging the gap between survival and not. But for the most part UC and the other top up benefits are meant to be long term subsidies to compensate for the fact that we've been printing money for 15 years and therefore wages on the lower deciles don't cover living costs.

It's nothing to do with UC. My point is you cannot live hand to mouth whilst buying your child everything you can think of and more, and saving £80+ a month. It makes no difference where the money comes from, the idea of being so very desperate and living hand to mouth does not match with the spending and saving OP talks about. It's one or the other, it's can't be both. They are contradictory, regardless of source.

UC is absolutely about poverty it is the main means tested benefit when someone does not have enough money to live on. It is the benefit that plugs the gap between survival and not.

@Elliesmummy1 I think it's very noble of you to be saving for your daughter. My only comment is that I hope you and your partner are also saving for a rainy day for yourselves.
I speak as someone brought up in a household where my parents were very frugal to a point of martyrdom. My DM is still like this now. It was unnecessary. My DM want to save money so I get it when she dies. So she won't buy herself new stuff that she actually needs. It drives me mad. I don't need her money. But it's like she's trying to prove a massive point. I hate it.

No- one knows my past and my finances… and never will
my child (if you can read properly as stated before ) is very spoilt by our massive family

It really isn't. It's a means tested benefit alright, but it plugs the gap between what employers are prepared to pay and what currency is worth. It was never intended as a short term crisis benefit. It was intended as a long term mechanism to stop employees rising out of their cribs and demanding a fair wage for a day's work. Thanks to fools like you, it has also achieved the double bubble of getting people to be grateful for it. And being judged for bettering themselves by even a miniscule amount while receiving it which will likely ultimately be taken from them in end of life care or deduction from pension credit.

Really, who the fuck are you getting angry at, over all this? Do you think they have a better life than you do?

dustandroses · 05/06/2022 19:11

I'm not angry at all, your post is so aggressive. Calling me a fool when it's you who is jumping to conclusions. Get over yourself.

BlueTitSmilingAtMe · 05/06/2022 19:22

Apologies. I admit that I am frustrated that people can't see what is happening around them.

Do you have an asset? If so, maximise it. If not, get as much cash together as you can. The government is explicitly enabling people on UC to do so because they are typically asset poor. This isn't an accident or an example of the government being nice to benefit people; it's because we're in a country that's been printing money for 15 years and rn we've simultaneously lost our main trading arm and been through a pandemic and we're going to be royally fucked if no one apart from the ultra rich is prepped for it. People like OP are helping them out. People who are riding on what their house is worth, not so much.

Yes I changed my name as I just wrote a post about a moon chair …………. AND ?

WakeyCakeyHeart · 05/06/2022 22:59

A relative of mine is on UC, works as part time temp, single parent, she's taking her 2 kids to Florida this year and drives a fairly new Audi.

She's not unusual either, I have several friends on UC and they are absolutely not going without at all, there is income from other sources paying for a lot of stuff I can't afford as a full time employee on an average salary.

I've never fully understood the benefits system but I am not seeing claimants absolute poverty, the opposite in fact.
