£25 this month out of all four of us! So far it's been £125 this year

LaPufalina · 04/05/2022 13:43

Nothing for me on £3.7k, won £100 last month so I've already made 3% this year Smile

Theforest · 04/05/2022 13:26

£25 for me. None for DH.

It will be interesting to see how they respond to people moving money out for increasing savings rates

I won £100 this month (full holdings) but have still decided to pull mine out and move to my Chase savings account.

Rather a 1.5 definite payment (plus the extra I had in there once premium bonds were full) than the average and non guaranteeed 1.2% I got from PB last year with a tiny chance of winning big.

Think on the old thread a few people were saying the same.

Might keep £100 or so in there just for the chance though. I'm gutted that when you "sell" it gets rid of your oldest bonds first as my grandparents opened my account with £10 when I was born so would have liked to have kept that one out of sentimentality!

Well done to winners this month 👏
nothing for me on just under £5000.
at what amount do people start winning? Should I keep adding to it?

I’ve 4k in mine and won £25 once…. In about two years ( amount is increasing slowly) but it’s just non used savings. If savings rates rises I may reconsider. I’m not one to invest in stocks shares etc.

my partner has full holdings and wins most months anything between £25-£100.

Yes I can’t think of anywhere that offers a decent low risk rate so just sticking cash there for now. Maybe I’ll aim big and keep buying them.

Imtryingveryhard · 04/05/2022 14:36

£25 each for my husband and I, £50 each for my 2 kids. As a family we’ve won over £1k in 8 draws. I checked at 12.30am as I couldn’t wait! Out of us all my kids have won the most.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/05/2022 14:55

I only dream of £50k in there. But if I did I would want least £25 a month

small amounts can win

@MrOllivander how lovely

@FAQs be interesting if your theory works

Absolutely sod all on £78k (50+28 across 2 accounts). Next month better be good!

Scottishgirl85 · 04/05/2022 15:17

@latetothefisting please can you explain Chase to me? We're saving money for an extension next year so need instant access. Getting fed up with PB. Thanks!

We are putting in £250 a month. Up to £5800 now. Nothing this month. 😥

MintyIguana · 04/05/2022 16:37

£75k holdings between us and nothing this month. I'm giving up and going to overpay mortgage and keep some as an emergency fund in Chase instead.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 04/05/2022 18:59

£75 on full holdings, only my second month with premium bonds so it felt very exciting 🤣

Seriously considering the same. I've only won £50 this year on £40k holdings would be better to over pay.

OceanAtTheEnd · 04/05/2022 19:26

Congratulations to the winners 🙂.

I did not win 😄.

PBond · 04/05/2022 19:53

Disclaimer: I am not a savings expert 😀
I don't think premium bonds offer a good rate of "interest" compared to other things like stocks and shares ISA's, or the fixed term ISA's etc, especially if you have smaller value holdings. But I think they are useful at putting money that you might need quicker access to, as most instant access account interest rates are tiny. That's why my DC has their money in it, as it was from a child trust fund that will be used for university, rather than tying it up in an ISA. They are a bit sad they've only won £25 so far though!

Mummumtum · 04/05/2022 19:55

Nothing for us for last 6months, gone down from £75k to £25k in last 2months. Think I might move what’s left elsewhere

Yep, its a part of JP Morgan which is a huge bank in the US.
There is a website but you can only open a current account by downloading the Chase UK app. I found it really easy to set up.

You need to open the current account first to have access to the linked savings account but there aren't any minimum requirements like minimum pay in per month or number of direct debits so you could just keep £1 in the current account to have access to the savings one, although I find the current account really good, much better than my "main" natwest one.

You get 1% cashback on spending from the current account, 1.5% interest on the savings account, and you can also add a "round up" account (where it rounds up every purchase you make to the nearest pound and saves the difference) which is 5% interest. You can see the balances on all the accounts at the same time, and switch money between them (or pay out) instantly. I would really recommend it.

That sounds really good. As it’s a US. And is the money protected? Like if the bank goes under?

MintyIguana · 04/05/2022 20:34

Yes protected up to £85k under FSCS. It's very good. I had been using John Lewis credit card for cash back but this is better... and paid in real cash not JL vouchers. And you transfer your cash back into your current account whenever you want it.

Sounds like that card is a good option. Dh and I won £25 each on holdings of about £30k each

You can keep hold of your oldest bonds - there’s a form you fill in which lets you choose the specific bonds you want to sell.
