No

Chocoqueen · 16/03/2022 10:58

No - unless the 2nd pregnancy was twins, then I think you can get it for all 3.

HappyAsASandboy · 16/03/2022 11:03

Yes, you will get Child Benefit for all children, no matter how many you have. There's a higher rate for the first child (£21.15) and a lower rate for subsequent children (£14).

If either parent's earnings go over £50k (after some exclusions) then you will need to pay a sliding proportion of it back, with all of it being repayable (or choose not to receive it) if either parent earns over £60k.

All information is here - www.gov.uk/child-benefit

Tax Credits/Universal Credit has different rules to Child Benefit.

Orchidsonthetable · 16/03/2022 11:04

No. Not unless you’re only claiming for one at the moment. You can only claim for two at a time.

Baaaa · 16/03/2022 11:08

It’s paid every 4 weeks and there’s no limit to how many children you can claim for. The government website says no limit

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 16/03/2022 11:10

I think the cap of benefits for only two children applies to Tax Credits and Universal Credit only but not Child Benefit. You can get Child Benefit for each child no matter how you have.

Viviennemary · 16/03/2022 11:12

I think the two child limit is for Universal Credit and not child benefit.

MrsGHarrison87 · 16/03/2022 11:15

Yes you can. I claim it for 4 kids but can only claim tax credits for 3. Third was born before the cap was implemented.

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/03/2022 11:16

Why do people comment with wrong info? Just don’t bother commenting if you don’t know. Yes op you can claim child benefit fir a third child , there is no limit.

AntikytheraMech · 16/03/2022 11:19

Not for a new third child.
www.gov.uk/guidance/claiming-benefits-for-2-or-more-children
If you’re already getting benefits for more than 2 children you’ll continue to get those benefits.

You won’t be paid an additional amount for more than 2 children, unless the children were born before 6 April 2017 (on or before 6 April for Income Support) or special circumstances apply.

Scbchl · 16/03/2022 11:22

@AntikytheraMech did you actually read what it says on that article you just shared? Clearly says for universal credits and tax credits. Child benefit does not have the same 2 child limit.

hastalavista · 16/03/2022 11:22

Thank you all

It’s for universal credit / tax credits the 2 child limit.

Can u get child benefit for third child?
BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 16/03/2022 11:22

Yes, you can. There is no limit on the amount of children you can claim CB for.

It was tax credits that limited the # of children you could claim for (except in specific circumstances).

hastalavista · 16/03/2022 11:26

Hang on sorry I wrote thank you before I read all those other posts!!!! Now reading the last few I am even more confused!!! Thanks for everyone posting but can anyone really clarify?! You can get child benefit for a 3rd child, you get about £21 for the 1st and then around £14 for any other children. You need to earn under 50k individually to get the full amount. I think lots of people are confusing child benefit (that everyone under 50k can get) with actual benefits and tax credits. We aren't entitled to anything other than child benefit.

KnowingMeKnowingYouAhaaaa · 16/03/2022 11:30

I should add we have 3 children and get it for the 3rd too, so yes.

marqueses · 16/03/2022 11:32

You can get child benefit for as may children as you have @DSGR and @Chocoqueen and @Orchidsonthetable you are missing out on money if you have more than 2 children

Where do people get this wrong info from?

KnowingMeKnowingYouAhaaaa · 16/03/2022 11:33

They will backdate it 12 weeks, I was quite slow sorting it out when we had our first child and I think they paid 12 weeks in one go. I vaguely remember, I think I missed out on a couple of weeks.

trevthecat · 16/03/2022 11:35

Yes you can claim cb for 3 children. It is tax credits that has a limit. So many comments on here that are completely wrong

kateg27 · 16/03/2022 11:36

Child benefit is for all
Children. I get it for 3rd and 4th

DSGR · 16/03/2022 11:40

So sorry, I was misinformed
