£85 for me, DP and DD1 including household/cleaning stuff, not including animals. £150pm for all four animals food.

elbea · 26/01/2022 17:18

We spend £120 for a week for two adults, a toddler and a dog. Do main shop at Aldi with the rest from Waitrose.

These threads wind me up but I'm magnetically drawn to them! On average we are spending £220 ish a week for 6 adults( 4 teenage DC) includes cleaning products and some toiletries and occasionally pet food although usually buy that separate.
We all have breakfast, packed lunch and dinner at home ,usually 7 days a week . It really adds up.
Plus 2 Teens are vegans who don't like vegetables- meat substitute products are expensive as is oatmilk, vegan cereal bars etc etc .

weegiemum · 26/01/2022 17:37

About £150 in Asda. 4 adults (me and do, ds and dd2 19 and 18). Dog, cat, rabbits, Guinea pigs. Dog food and wine bought online so not included. We don't have to buy many cleaning things as our cleaners bring their own. If it's a week where we need washing tablets or dishwasher pods tor loo roll then it's more. Plus occasional top up shops, maybe £10 twice a week.

I meal plan and keep cupboards/ freezer well stocked, and cook mainly from scratch. We usually get a takeaway at the weekends.

It costs more if student dd1 comes too (she's moved out but only lives 10 mins away). Do is a big softy and buys her food for her if she comes with us!

geminiflanagan · 26/01/2022 17:42

About £80 a week, all in. 2 adults and an 8 year old. Pet food & cat litter separate on subscription.

Sgtmajormummy · 26/01/2022 17:55

It averages out at €150 per week for 3 adults 3 meals a day, alcohol, all toiletries and cleaning plus cat food and dog treats.
DDog costs €1 a day to feed (Royal Canin bought online).

We do one big shop at Lidl of €85-100 plus other smaller shops for fresh fruit, bread and branded food we can’t find at Lidl.
I can and do cook from scratch but I buy frozen and tinned whenever.

Eating out, maybe every two weeks, is extra.

Chewbecca · 26/01/2022 17:58

Absolutely loads.

I spent £75 on a top up shop today and only bought 1 evening meal. The rest was loo rolls, kitchen rolls, dishwasher stuff, some toiletries and some lunch stuff.

I reckon about £150pw for a family of 3 who eat out / takeaway at least twice weekly.

YooCoo · 26/01/2022 17:58

@Runnerduck34 Why do they wind you up? (Genuinely curious, not being goady)

Hb12 · 26/01/2022 18:00

About £100 -£150. Latter figure includes milkman 3 times a week who also delivers eggs at weekend.

Would only push towards £150 if also needing alcohol, nappies etc.

cultkid · 26/01/2022 18:07

250-300 a week min
2 adults
2 children (5&2)

No booze atm as I'm pregnant and husband drinks wine a few times a year

1 cat but I buy her food from Home Bargains usually

Buy food from Ocado

Lightstoobright · 26/01/2022 18:07

Between £35-£40 pw for one person (vegetarian, no alcohol). Mainly Waitrose & Aldi. This doesn't include meals out for which I budget approx £15 per week.
I'm sure I can do it for cheaper but this feels realistic at the moment.

libertya · 26/01/2022 18:10

About £140pw for 3 adults and a 4 year old, Tesco delivery. No alcohol (no drinkers). Includes some basic toiletries but we tend to get premium skincare for birthdays etc. We don't scrimp and often get pre-prepped food and opt for some premium brands, it could be much cheaper doing everything from scratch and dropping a brand. If I do a top up shop it's only for a few specific things and won't spend more than £10.

LuckyKitty13 · 26/01/2022 18:13

We spend £30-40 in Aldi plus Tesco of £10-15. We don’t eat meat or drink alcohol. 2 adults plus 2yo

MrsKDB · 26/01/2022 18:14

£90-100 / week. Two adults, two young teens. No meat / VERY occasional fish / no alcohol

Cheap meals - lentil / veg soup, rice and dal, curries, chilli bowls, bean burgers with wedges, Thai curry or noodle soups, toad in the hole stretches a single pack of veggie sausages, tortilla…

Even cooking like this I can’t get the bills lower. We buy no squash / fizzy drinks / cereal bars either

Classicblunder · 26/01/2022 18:19

My parents only spend about 40 a week - they eat vegetables, yoghurt and home made flatbreads and don't drink alcohol. They don't really do processed food at all and they don't eat meat.

Our bill is higher - around £80 a week for a family of four with two under 5. We cook from scratch, very little meat, I could get our food bill lower if I really tried.

Sgtmajormummy · 26/01/2022 18:30

For people looking for recipes.
I had the oven on today and decided to make an easy cheap cake with what I had on hand.
I was blown away by
This
recipe for Depression-era Water Cake Grin. No eggs, milk or butter.
I filled it with some leftover carton custard and dusted it with icing sugar.
It looked fancy enough for a party and cost about 60p.

jlgsy94 · 26/01/2022 18:46

I live in permanent envy at how little (compared to our living costs) some of you are spending. We live in Guernsey (Channel Islands, so not mainland UK) and the cost of living is insane, not just for food but rent and utilities too. We're a family of 6 plus one dog, a rabbit and two guinea pigs, and we spend £200/week on just food. Nappies and pet food/bedding is separate to that, as is petrol for the car. We pay around £180/month electricity.

Shops wise we only have Waitrose, M&S, Co-op, Iceland, a few small Morrisons (however the Iceland and Morrisons shops are franchises) and a few local supermarkets. Also, the prices aren't the same as the UK ones. The shops also only sell milk from the local dairy which is £1.50 for 1 LITRE...

Svara · 26/01/2022 18:49

@Tabby21

Those that only spend £50 a week, what meals do you cook? Looking for tips on some cheaper meals!
Breakfasts are usually porridge with frozen berries and sliced banana, or eggs on toast with mushrooms and tomato. Dinners are things like chilli, bolognaise, vegetable soup, chicken jalfrezi, vegetable curries.
HelebethH · 26/01/2022 18:54

@MrsKDB We spend £40.PW. 2 adults, retired and all meals at home. Bottle of wine each week and cook from scratch. Batch cook lots and freeze and meal plan. We don't generally bother with desserts unless we really fancy one. Online shop in Tesco so no impulse buys. I also budget for an 8 day week and that way I gain 6 weeks extra food money to use at christmas. Every couple of months we use up freezer meals. Also buy a lot of frozen veg. Fine in stews, casseroles, etc and works out a lit cheaper.
Each week we have
1 egg meal
1 fish meal
1 mince
1 bean/pulse meal
1 rice based
1 pasta based
I lucky dip using up bits and pieces

AlexandraPeppernose · 26/01/2022 18:57

2 adults 3 teens 1 cat about £150 to £170 a week and that is with being careful. They eat alot. Can easily get through a big multipack of crisps in about 3 days

Powaqa · 26/01/2022 19:05

The shopping that I bought on Saturday gone came to £276 in Morrisons and Iceland

There are 5 adults, 1 pre school child, 2 cats and was for food, cleaning stuff, toiletries etc

Next week, I figure it should only be about £170 in Morrisons only as my freezer is full and I have cat food for the fortnight

My Morrisons weekly bill used to be about £140 a week a year or so ago but everything seems to have shot up

MsAnnFrope · 26/01/2022 19:11

£120-£140 a week for 2 adults 1child and 2 DSC on the weekend.
That includes household stuff but not cat food as she needs special days cat diet food.
It also includes random bits of uniform, the odd birthday present which I pick up in the supermarket.
It’s gone up from £80-90 about a year ago. We are on fortunately ok for money. God knows what people who are already struggling will do.

fufulina · 26/01/2022 19:16

£160-£170 for two adults, one teen one primary DC. Booze, meat, toiletries, cleaning stuff. 6 dinners, lunches for us all bar primary DC.

Aldi for most stuff and then meat and bits Aldi don’t do in sainsburys. One takeaway a week. Everything else cooked from scratch.

We used to bring it in comfortably under £130.

user1487194234 · 26/01/2022 19:20

£200 a week
2 adults and 2 teenagers
Includes some alcohol and all cleaning stuff
Meat bought in addition from butcher
Could probably spend less but don't really want to
