How much do people spend on a weekly food shop?

I don’t use devil sticks celery. I also always batch cook it and stick some in the freezer as well which means you don’t need to use a whole number of something (tins, peppers, onions) per serving so it’s cheaper that way. Dried red lentils are about 6p a serving!

Toothpaste - a tube is 89p from Lidl, difficult to say how much a single use of bar soap is but was about £2 for the bar…
Reusable sanpro bought 5 years ago paid for themselves pretty quickly, and did a load of laundry for about 25p using powder and vinegar.

It is possible to spend 45-50 per week depending on circumstances which wasn’t asked for! For example I have a small holding so have chickens, grow seasonal fruit and veg and get meat for free/next to nothing! I use one type of cleaner for every surface in my house and bleach for the loos and bath! So never spend lots of money on lots of different chemicals! There’s two of us in our house so we use a large box of washing powder every few months (don’t use fabric conditioner due to eczema) same with loo rolls too! We have gone all eco friendly and use a bar of soap for washing ourselves so no longer buy expensive cleansers or body washes ! I do obviously buy shampoo and conditioner every month or two which will be part of my £45 per week plus some dairy items! I choose to drink water whilst working or tea at home but my parents buy me a tea subscription every year so I don’t actually pay for fresh tea or teabags! I do buy occasional wine but I’m not drinking at the moment (medical reasons which is depressing) so buy more chocolate and cake instead of the wine Grin

I genuinely really do spend 45.00 sometimes less, and as I said everyone’s circumstances are very very different.

So in the past 7 days we have spent 82.96 on groceries and household stuff (loo rolls etc) which includes £6 lunch money (kids are off school sick, would usually be £15). This is for two adults a big teenager and a preteen. We are on a tight budget.
However in the same period DH has spent £24.63 in bakeries and corner shops on “snacks” that we really can’t afford Angry

We spend £150 a week for 3 adults, one 8yo and 2 large dogs. No one works out of home, so that covers all meals except DD's school dinners, but we're not particularly frugal. Doesn't include alcohol.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 05/02/2022 08:42

Oh, also doesn't include loo roll as we get Who Gives a Crap delivered. And milk delivered.

poshme · 05/02/2022 08:56

We spend about £200 a week including all household items and alcohol. That covers all meals for everyone.

We don't eat out or have take aways.

2 adults, 3 teens and dog.

Two adults, one baby and dog. £150-200 every 10 days plus Gousto 3 meals weekly which is about £30, plus extra for nappies, beer and dog food. Formula included in shop. One takeaway every fortnight, never eat out as have newborn, occasional trips to fish monger or butcher. DH works in London 2 days a week but other than that 3 meals a day for both of us plus snacks and extras for dog. I feel we over spend a bit but we don't go out so eating well is our indulgence
