How much do people spend on a weekly food shop?

€100 Tesco click 'n collect per week, 3 adults 3 dogs - that includes cleaning stuff etc. DH will get the occasional pint of milk, 'big' garlic (Tesco garlic is puny), kitchen roll, loo roll and so on if we run out of it, and I suppose you could add another €20 to include all of that.

merryhouse · 26/01/2022 16:09

Well, it varies...

But in 2021 we spent £4892 on groceries.

That's me and H full-time, two young men some of the time (one away for summer and autumn terms, one just the autumn).

toastfiend · 26/01/2022 16:10

About £120 a week for us. 2 adults, 1 toddler, includes all food and cleaning stuff, alcohol and some toiletries, but I buy skincare separately. The dogs' food we also buy separately, but that's about another £35 a month. Tend to shop at Ocado as I don't find it much more expensive than Tesco and I do find them to be more reliable and prefer some of the branded items that they have available.

@LosGibertyisacelebration

Ours is actually ridiculous. At least £200 a week. 2 adults, 2 teens, 3 children under 10 and a cat. That includes all cleaning stuff, most toiletries, packed lunches for 2 but not husbands and older teens lunches when out at work/college or younger teens canteen money at secondary school. Also doesn't include takeaways or meals out which are pretty infrequent at the mo, maybe once a month. We tend to spend most of our money on fruit and veg and that honestly makes it so much more expensive for us. I've managed (somehow) to raise kids who will happily be excited trying all different fruits and veg, the weirder the better so I'm always buying loads of it. Probably at least £50 a week just of fresh fruit and veg. We are also a household that is 50/50 vegetarian and meat eaters so I buy things like lentils, beans etc as well as the meat alternatives like quorn sometimes in addition to meat. We also do too ups of fruit/milk/bread at least once a week. On the plus side I'm good at using up things and not wasting it so it doesn't feel like I'm spending unnecessarily.
That's what, £8 per day per person, its not ridiculous at all.

£100 per week for 2 adults, 2 pre-teens and a pre-schooler.
2 shops a week: 1 Ocado; 1 Morrison's. Doesn't include DH's weekday lunches but includes all others. No pets.
Doesn't include alcohol either.
One takeaway a fortnight.

Leafy1986 · 26/01/2022 16:12

2 adults, 2 primary age children (inc packed lunches) and a cat. £50-70 online shop week plus a takeaway/meal out (about £20)

iloveyankeecandle · 26/01/2022 16:15

Two adults, one child and a baby. I'd say we're spending up to £150 a week including nappies and formula and weekly top ups

Newyearnewyearnew · 26/01/2022 16:19

18 months ago I could keep it to about £50 (one adult, 2 primary age dc). Now it's around the £100 mark. A couple of new dietary restrictions in that time (gf rather than wheat is more expensive) but difference is mostly inflation. I alternate lidl and Morrisons. Prices for basic food stuffs have hugely increased the last few years.

Tabby21 · 26/01/2022 16:23

About £150 a week in sainsburys for 2 adults, 2 children and 2 cats.

mummytooneprincess · 26/01/2022 16:23

We are two adults, one child and a baby. We spend approx £70 a week which includes all cleaning products, formula, nappies etc. We don't really drink alcohol, don't have takeaways and my daughter gets a free lunch at school.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 26/01/2022 16:25

I feel ashamed to say mine is £300 plus for 4 adults. My DH and also have about four meals out (normally lunches) and we have at least one family takeaway a week.

Quamora · 26/01/2022 16:29

Probably £160 a week on average now. Two adults, two teenagers and two children. That includes dishwasher tablets, washing powder and bleach

Valkyrie40 · 26/01/2022 16:30

About £300 (family of six)

I get an online shop of essentials from Tesco for about £150 and spend another £150 on "nicer" stuff from Waitrose.

We also get a weekend takeout and often go out for lunch on a sat or Sunday. We spend a lot on food!

namechangedforthisoneok · 26/01/2022 16:30

Nearly £200. Food, toiletries, cleaning stuff etc for five adults and a dog!

mydaughterisademon · 26/01/2022 16:31

£220 - 2 adults, 4 teens, 2 dogs & 2 cats

Tabby21 · 26/01/2022 16:32

Those that only spend £50 a week, what meals do you cook? Looking for tips on some cheaper meals!

sofakingcool · 26/01/2022 16:32

About £120/30

Feed 4 people - 3 Adults and one teen boy , so effectively 4 adults.

3 meat eaters and one vegetarian

We don't have loads of luxuries in life, don't drink etc so like to treat ourselves to nice food.

We have one takeaway/meal out a week Blush

Pbbananabagel · 26/01/2022 16:34

It’s gone up to £100 now for 2 adults, a toddler, a baby and a cat. That includes nappies and wipes etc. it’s easily gone up £20-30 since November last year, I have been absolutely staggered at how much.

ConkerBonkers · 26/01/2022 16:37

It averages out at £40 a week for two adults, and one child. Also includes washing stuff. We don't drink and have a bread machine which helps. We do skip meals a little bit but that's more to do with fast dieting than anything else.

RussianSpy101 · 26/01/2022 16:42

5 people. No pets. 1 in nappies.

Around £180-£190 not including alcohol but including toiletries.

Not for a minute do I believe people spend £45 a week.

RussianSpy101 · 26/01/2022 16:42

We have a takeaway once a week too.

YooCoo · 26/01/2022 16:44

DH does the orders now and the cost has gone up. 2 Adults and 1 teen. We spend about £300 but that is almost all Organic. Includes some toiletries and cleaning supplies, rubbish bags.

Titsywoo · 26/01/2022 16:44

About £130 for breakfasts, weekend lunches, dinners, snacks and the odd toiletry/cleaning product. We do a quarterly trip to Costco to buy loo roll/washing and dishwasher tablets/cling film etc. We don't drink alcohol at home and have maybe one takeaway/meal out every couple of weeks.

Mamamovingnorth · 26/01/2022 16:52

Pre pandemic it was at least £250 a week - lunches out, ‘bits’ from m&s every evening, loads of ‘nice’ stuff but circumstances have changed dramatically and I’m now desperately trying to make £50 a week at Aldi stretch. That’s for 2 adults, a baby and cat. (Formula/ cat food/loo roll and some toiletries bought online)

onetwothreeadventure · 26/01/2022 17:04

£200/week (5 people). That includes toilet rolls, cleaning products etc and we don't buy alcohol.
