Anyone interested in a YNAB chat/support thread?

Hi,

I wondered if anyone was interested in a YNAb thread to chat about progress and help each other. I've just started the trial period a couple of weeks ago and, although it's quite a steep learning curve I'm really impressed with it.
I'm freelance so it's important for me to track money and be prepared for fallow periods. I had a thread here with some great advice. I'll add it as there are some good links www.mumsnet.com/Talk/legal_money_matters/4327812-YNAB-help-for-a-freelancer?watched=1&msgid=110514876#110514876

Anyone up for some YNAB chat/support?

I'm away this weekend and I've not had to worry about spending money because I already had it allocated 😊 it's very liberating and I know how to refill the pot for my next trip away

I’m really struggling with feeling YNAB poor at the moment! It’s our 10 year wedding anniversary this summer and I wanted to book a staycation as a surprise for my husband. But even though I’ve got more money in the bank than I ever have normally, it’s all allocated to other things!!

I think I will reallocate some money as (I know you’re not meant to borrow from the future) but we won’t have to pay for nursery from September so that will free up a lot of extra money a month!

it’s a definite shift though because in the past I’d have looked at my bank balance and just immediately booked it without worrying about what that money was actually needed for.

I've had 2 child free mini breaks in Europe the last few weeks. All so much better as all the costs were budgeted & I could relax & enjoy myself without fretting about ££

Got paid today. I now have Junes expenses covered and have topped up a couple of savings pots. I've spent quite a lot this month but actually I needed to and I had the money and I have a plan to replace it. I feel very calm and in control which is rather nice!

Age of money is at 89 days. June is fully funded. My plan for the end of the year is to be 2 months ahead fully funded 🤞 but if I'm not that's ok!

Happierwithouthim · 17/05/2024 12:37

I get paid weekly, this will become monthly in august, with weekly maintenance and weekly social welfare.
I'm currently at age of money 151 days.
My sinking funds are in good order, I love YNAB.

I needed clothes for my new job, my clothing category had money in it, so simple. Before YNAB that would've meant scrabbling around for money

I've just subscribed by accident. Didn't cancel my trial 🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm hoping it's fate as you all seem very enamoured.

Recommend any tutorials for dummies to get me off to a quick start?

BertieBotts · 20/05/2024 00:47

The Nick True ones on YouTube are meant to be the best. Haven't watched them for years so hopefully still as useful!

How did the trial go for you?

MissOrganisedMe · 20/05/2024 14:19

I forgot about the trial hence why the subscription took me by surprise!

It's my intention to be more organised but I'm so chaotically disorganised that shit like this happens.

I'm determined to make a change. Small steps!

Happierwithouthim · 20/05/2024 16:23

Well I will say that thanks to YNAB there are few financial surprises, I put everything in on repeat and if I know of an expense in advance I enter it also. Then I can view upcoming expenses when budgeting my income.

Their customer service is very good. They might cancel it for you if you haven't used it. Maybe ask for another free trial?

I think the psychology of reaching the end of the 34-day free trial having gone through a complete pay cycle and knowing it's going to sort your finances out forever before you make your first payment is worth a cheeky ask!

Didsomeonesaydogs · 20/05/2024 19:37

That’s weird @MissOrganisedMe

I recently came to the end of the trial and I had to put in all my payment info when I subscribed on day 33 in order that it didn’t just stop.

MissOrganisedMe · 20/05/2024 20:50

It did it automatically through my Google play app.

Can't cancel. This was a month or so ago now and I STILL haven't looked at it.

Wish my username was apt. I fact I think I chose that as a positive affirmation 🤦🏼‍♀️
