How much is your weekly food shop?

My other half alway moans at how much I spend on the weekly shop. There’s 2 adults and 2 year old. I spend between £120 - £130 (in the UK) We are dairy free and go through 5/6 cartons of oatly milk a week, so there’s a tenner right there. Because he goes on at me so much I was starting to think it was a lot, however his brother and partner came round a couple of days ago and they started talking about their shop and his brother was saying he usually spends about £120 for 2 adults. So I’m curious, what do you all spend a week?

2 adults and a 3.5yo, plus cat.
We are mainly plant-based, DD eats meat, I'm vegan, DP flits between depending how he feels.

£40 a week on Gousto.
Plus around £30 at ALDI on bits and bobs.
DP buys lunch most days - £20 a week.
Plus a few bits of shops in co-op - £20.

I'd say £110 a week for us. Definitely could do cheaper but we're terrible at planning, both work FT, me WFH and DP all over the county so he's out 12 hours a day. DD lives between here and her dad's and I'm always driving her around. DP doesn't technically live here but kind of does. It's a bit manic so we shop for convenience. We do need to try and do it a bit cheaper though.

Frazzlefrazle · 06/04/2021 18:10

It probably averages around £80 a week. 2 adults 3 primary age children. We are veggie so that naturally keeps costs down. We do have expensive oat milk though. We shop at sainsbury.

dizzygirl1 · 06/04/2021 18:14

1 adult and 2 children (teen and pre teen) £40-£50 a week

LongIslandIcedT · 06/04/2021 18:15

It varies, last week it was over £100, this week was £30 for fresh top up stuff.
We're trying to bring it down, cut down on wine and expensive meats, last month we spent £260 on food only.

crispychicken12 · 06/04/2021 18:15

£60-70 for a family of two adults and one 18 month old.

We do our shop every ten days not every 7 though

firstimemamma · 06/04/2021 18:15

2 adults and a 2 and a half year old. £80, home-cooked family food. Refill eco shop, fish mongers and green grocers & some stuff from Aldi. Milk delivered by milk and more.

BasinHaircut · 06/04/2021 18:21

This thread just spurred me on to add it up.

Probably around £100 per week currently for 2 adults and an almost 8 year old. But that’s all meals for all 3 of us and includes the meat and fish I buy from a delivery service for grass fed free range etc and the occasional Hello Fresh/Gousto box so I think that’s quite good. We eat well.

Cat bits get bought separately, probably another £40 a month but again he eats high quality food.

We don’t get takeaways these days but I cannot wait to eat out again and when we can our food expenditure will increase!

Puffincrossing · 06/04/2021 18:24

£110 a week for food and cleaning products, toilet roll etc but not alcohol. This is for 2 adults, 1 teen and 2 older primary school dc, and quite a few small furries who have luxury hay Blush We're vegetarian and all our eggs and dairy are organic. I don't feel we need to cut back but I also don't feel any of us are missing out.

Brown76 · 06/04/2021 18:35

£120 per week (no booze, 2 adults and 2 kids, lots of snacks, includes cleaning supplies/loo roll) plus a weekly takeaway and that not including kids lunches in term time.

SomethingToldTheWildGeese · 06/04/2021 18:38

We budget £150 a week (2 adults)

WeekendCEO · 06/04/2021 18:39

We spend between £200-£250 per week for 4 of us and dogs. I’m vegan but buy organic meat and dairy products for my partner and kids. Includes toiletries and alcohol.

Joeblack066 · 06/04/2021 18:40

@feckinarse

50-60 at Aldi every week, 2 adults, 2 primary-aged children. Sometimes more, depending on whether we fall prey to the 'aisle of crap' (In fairness, that wok is going strong and REALLY high quality. But it was expensive.)

About once a month we'll do a bigger shop (80-90) when we restock laundry liquid, toilet paper, face cream, etc.

That matches me lol! Love Aldi 👍🏻🙂
JurassicShay · 06/04/2021 18:43

£150ish weekly shop Includes cat food, nappies, wipes, pre made formula, cleaning stuff brought on rotation
£30+ on top ups
£60ish weekend take away

2 adults, teen, preteen, child & baby.

Can also easily spend £30 on a Friday night for movie munch at the corner shop Hmm

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/04/2021 18:44

I spend 140-150 a week at Lidl, plus if we want wine or dh wants other bits to snack on that goes on top.
I am also dairy free but don't buy subs like fake cheese or yoghurts. We buy lots of fresh veg and fruit and meat which is annoyingly expensive. I buy hardly any branded food items. I genuinely don't think I could afford to shop at Tesco or Sainsbury's. I don't actively try to save money though, I think it's false economy to scrimp on food bills although I will buy eg A whole chicken or piece of gammon rather than sliced meat for sandwiches which works out much cheaper. We eat every single thing in the fridge every week, I never throw food away because we/I meal plan 21 meals a week.
We are a family of five (2 adults, dd 17 and dc 8 and 5) plus 3 cats - bill includes everything inc pet supplies, cleaning, toiletries plus occasional goodies from the aisle of wonders and fresh flowers or garden stuff when they have it in.

cultkid · 06/04/2021 18:46

At least 250-350 a week

2 adults
2 kids

GingerandTilly · 06/04/2021 18:48

About 350 per month for two adults, two kids. We do a monthly big shop the a couple of top ups. We meal plan and try to stretch time in between shops because we found that we spent a lot more when we shopped weekly. We have a milk man and get a fruit and veg box delivery each month, which helps us limit the amount of shops. We have two freezers so can live off freezer food for ages and we freeze or make our own bread which helps too.

PickAChew · 06/04/2021 18:48

Over 200pw for 2 adults and 2 teens.

misslomi · 06/04/2021 18:50

For me and DP plus two hungry kitties we spend £110 on average. Big shop at sainsburys then top up for fresh bread or anything we forgot from the local shop.

This includes all food for 3 meals a day for us both accept for one takeaway dinner a week.

All cleaning products and household stuff, cat food, toiletries and the occasional candle/homeware.

Oh and booze! Box of beers and a bottle of wine a week minimum.

We make everything from scratch, meat most nights and DP takes a LOT to keep him going at work!

hellcatspangle · 06/04/2021 18:56

Your bill is quite high I think. I spend about £130 a week and there's four adults living here (that includes toiletries but I do an odd top up shop but less than a tenner weekly) we don't skimp either.

Smashmallow · 06/04/2021 18:58

£180 a week. There are 7 of us, 2 adults, 2 tweens, 2 primary school and a toddler.

That's for basically everything, food, toiletries, cleaning products etc. We very rarely do a top up shop either. I don't think that's too bad.

joystir59 · 06/04/2021 18:59

On average £60-70/week for myself, elderly (eats like sparrow) pensioner and small dog who eats home cooked food.

Buckingafout · 06/04/2021 19:04

110 a week for family of 5

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 06/04/2021 19:08

Between 90-120 cleaning products toiletries etc included for 1 adult and 4dc

anothernamereally · 06/04/2021 19:09

£250-£300 per week for 2 adults 3 teens and 3 under 10 plus 2 cats. Includes alcohol, cleaning and toiletries

m0therofdragons · 06/04/2021 19:12

£200 - supermarket shop plus dog food and veg box for 2 adults and 3dc 13, 9 and 9. If I’m not buying toiletries, washing machine pods etc then maybe it’s closer to £150
