Tax credit - anyone got a date for the £500 payment yet?

I see a lot of tax credit recipients will be getting a £500 lump sum rather than the £20 a week - but has anyone had it yet or had a date for it? I get a small amount of tax credits and can't figure out if I'm eligible for the £500

It's showing on my app too Smile

Hellocatshome · 08/04/2021 17:22

What is the app called?

Chasingsquirrels · 08/04/2021 17:22

@Hellocatshome

It's the HMRC app
Chasingsquirrels · 08/04/2021 17:25

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows

Everyone check your app! This is showing on my payment page today!

Has anyone had a letter yet?

I think that's just a standard information notice, like the hours one below it which has been there for a while.
Hellocatshome · 08/04/2021 17:27

Yeah I just downloaded the app and it just looks like a standard notice to be honest.

excelledyourself · 08/04/2021 17:31

Is everyone's other usual TC payments showing up? I've nothing at all showing when I log in. Just the options for changing details, etc. Wasn't really expecting my payments to continue, but I'm sure my notice last year said it would decrease, not stop completely

Mine are showing yes, down about £80pm now the £20pw covid increase (which the £500 is compensating for) has stopped.

My reduced tax credits are showing.
Pandoraslastchance · 08/04/2021 17:37

I dont qualify as im still on esa due to disabilities and have 3 children so we werent moved over to UC.

Didn't get the £20 uplift that UC got and as i don't get wtc I don't get the £500 either. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation so there are those that are missing out Sad

excelledyourself · 08/04/2021 17:44

Guess I'm not getting tax credits anymore then. I have had the £500 text though.

Same here says no payment due on the app
FortniteBoysMum · 08/04/2021 17:51

It's a standard message added to the app by the looks of it. Guess they got sick of people asking. Not received a penny for years so doubt we will get it anyway. Still we live in hope.

I have that on mine but had no text or letter
Hellocatshome · 08/04/2021 18:00

I've had the text but no payments due showing on the app. I guess like most things HMRC do it will be a fingers crossed and hope for the best kind of a situation.

FortniteBoysMum · 08/04/2021 18:21

The app will not show the payment. HMRC have already said it will not show on there.

Hellocatshome · 08/04/2021 18:45

@FortniteBoysMum I meant no payments showing at all. This is why its more complicated than if you are eligible you will get it. I am elligible but don't get any payments due to repaying an overpayment.

FortniteBoysMum · 08/04/2021 18:53

It's crazy. We are eligible for both but earn too much to receive either. Some people in our position have had a text to say they will receive it. I'm really hopeful we do as my youngest has ASD and could seriously use a new bed but with dp on furlough for the past 6 months we have used up our savings. Still only a couple weeks to know for sure.

If you were receiving tax credits on 2nd March you should get the £500

purpleme12 · 08/04/2021 20:42

What do people mean when you say you're eligible for both but earn too much to receive either?
Surely if you're eligible you would receive some?

RigaBalsam · 08/04/2021 20:49

I think it means you have to be working so many hours to qualify but if you earn over for example £16k ( not sure what it is) you won't get any wtc as your salary is too much but if you may still get ctc then you should qualify.

Who knows as HMRC are using may and should and likely on Twitter.

imalmostthere · 08/04/2021 20:56

The thing on the app is just a notice and no guarantee you get it, it's a link to gov to check if you're eligible.
You will get a text or letter if you're eligible.

FortniteBoysMum · 08/04/2021 22:13

@RigaBalsam it means that we receive an award notice every year that says you are entitled to xxxx amount of child tax and working tax but because you earn yyyy amount we are deducting xxxx amount so your payments will be £0.00. Technically entitled to receive both but they take the full amount away.

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 08/04/2021 22:15

When I sign into my tax credits account I can see all my future payments (not on the app just on my laptop). There’s no £500 payment shown so I guess that means I don’t get it.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 08/04/2021 22:43

@YesIDoLoveCrisps it isn't gonna show on the app apparently, or the website. We just have to sit and wait to see when it comes in. Have you had a text or letter?

OP posts:
YesIDoLoveCrisps · 08/04/2021 23:03

I had the text. I have googled it and read about it on here but I have confused myself more. I will just really hope I get it, but won’t plan how to spend it just in case I don’t get it!
