Tax credit - anyone got a date for the £500 payment yet?

I see a lot of tax credit recipients will be getting a £500 lump sum rather than the £20 a week - but has anyone had it yet or had a date for it? I get a small amount of tax credits and can't figure out if I'm eligible for the £500

@TheDeckchairGardener

I’m pretty sure I am eligible for this but haven’t received a text or letter and still no payment into my account. I know they said payments will be made by April 23rd so still got a few more days to wait.

Anyone else still waiting?

Yes I'm still waiting but concerned I don't qualify as on a zero hours contract.
ImJustAGrouchSittingOnTheCouch · 20/04/2021 12:46

@Ashleighcm

It mustn't go by when you get your normal payment as i got my tax credits on Friday and still no 500
I get my usual tc payments on a wed but the £500 went in on Friday
MyDcAreMarvel · 20/04/2021 16:40

@TopBitchoftheWitches do you have your last award letter? It will say if you have an entitlement to wtc.

Metalmum82 · 21/04/2021 00:08

Not got nothing yet :( use to get wtc years ago but now earns too much for it but we get ctc. Not holding out hope now. Would be handy, got daughters birthday and car needs servicing

Skyvanilla22 · 21/04/2021 06:40

Can I clarify please. Is it only those in receipt of old tax credit system who are eligible? I’m on UC. I heard it’s only those on the old tax credit system who will receive the £500 payment and those on UC will receive a weekly uplift of £20 instead?! I haven’t a clue.

Reiningitin · 21/04/2021 06:51

@Skyvanilla22 yes that is exactly correct

WheeshtTheNoo · 21/04/2021 14:46

For those of us that just receive CTC and nothing else what happens when we transfer over to the UC system? Will it work the same as CTC where you tell them the yearly wage?

No, UC is worked out monthly depending on earnings in your assessment period.
nolovelost · 21/04/2021 20:44

Can someone please explain the one off payment to me please? I received the 500 today. So the 20 increase we had earlier on has now stopped, we get a one off 500 and our weekly payments now go back to normal ?(like they were pre pandemic).

Thanks.

MyDcAreMarvel · 21/04/2021 23:56

@nolovelost yes that’s correct , however if your income was reduced due to Covid less hours/furlough etc your wtc may be higher than previous years due to earning less in April 20-April 21.

nolovelost · 22/04/2021 07:03

Thank you.

TheDeckchairGardener · 22/04/2021 07:17

Well we phoned up to ask if we were going to get it. It appears that we forgot to update our details when my husband changed his job. Hours worked and salary is exactly the same, child tax credit payments haven’t changed but according to them, my husband isn’t working. Funny how they’ve been happy to take tax all these months.

So we’ve just thrown £500 in the bin and I feel pretty sick about it. We could try to appeal but the guy on the phone said appeals are rarely successful!

You'll probably have to start paying back an overpayment then if you have been receiving CTC based on your husband not working. They fucked up ages ago and had my husband down as working 16 hours a week when he was doing 40, due to him changing jobs. It was their mistake as we told them the correct information but we ended up paying back over a £1000.
nolovelost · 22/04/2021 18:20

@MyDcAreMarvel when did the £20 increase stop?

Chasingsquirrels · 22/04/2021 18:41

From the start of the current tax year - 6 April 2021.

Gemmie1986 · 24/04/2021 10:21

MyDcAreMarvel · 24/04/2021 10:54

I haven't I shall try and ring them Monday.
FortniteBoysMum · 24/04/2021 15:11

We receive a 0 award due to earnings. Guess they decided we're not getting it which is bloody irritating as they won't factor in that dp has been on furlough for 9 months in the past year so his earnings have been far lower than usual

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 24/04/2021 15:34

If you recieved £0 for earnings i think you should still qualify
