@seizethecuttlefish

Anyone else find the exchange rate on Payoneer is killing them? It's brutal.
Yes, I don't have any big projects on App but paying in pounds then App using their exchange rate to determine the dollar amount and then Payoneer turning that back into pounds with a very different exchange rate means I make quite a big loss on Am** purchases, so it's definitely only worth it if I get something worthwhile or can return something.
TeddyDidIt · 14/01/2021 08:27

@seizethecuttlefish

Their exchange rate is 1usd=0.71 pounds. Means that Appen now pays about £9.90/hr and I think it might mean I'm worse off with the purchasing project. Need to have a look, not sure. I don't mind the fees, don't really notice them.
The exchange rate they use on Am is 0.768 or something
tinkywinkyshandbag · 14/01/2021 08:28

Hi question for potato people, when does the monthly statement arrive and how - us is it emailed? Thanks

Sallycinnamum · 14/01/2021 09:07

@seizethecuttlefish yes the exchange rate is brutal.

Having had Appen cut so many hours this month I'm not a happy bunny at the moment.

I'm getting countless emails from Appen about new projects so I may be able to squeeze in an extra few hours a week.

seizethecuttlefish · 14/01/2021 09:12

@tinkywinkyshandbag it's emailed to the email you signed up with. On their wiki there's a spreadsheet and you fill that out and info all on there. It's usually the 10th working day of the month. So probably tomorrow.

@Sallycinnamum I'm getting loads of emails too. Will have a look but I'm not usually successful with the quizzes for some of the new stuff.

I think I've lost £23 on the double currency conversion on the Am** items last month. Takes quite a chunk out of the piece rate earnings.

CrepuscularCritter · 14/01/2021 10:00

Also feeling the currency squeeze this month. Although I seem to have been paid less in dollars than was on my agreed invoice, so I guess I will need to follow that up.

bookgirl1982 · 14/01/2021 10:10

@CrepuscularCritter payoneer take a three dollar fee if that's how much you've lost

Rad2016 · 14/01/2021 10:27

Has anyone not had their bonus payment? I had email saying deposit made via payoneer but no reimbursement. Not very happy

whysotriggered · 14/01/2021 10:30

@seizethecuttlefish yep, the exchange rate is brutal, had hoped that the real exchange rate would improve but it just keeps going down!!! I remember the giddy heights when it is 0.8 and payoneeer was something like 0.78. Sigh

whysotriggered · 14/01/2021 10:36

@Rad2016 everything looks good for me although I still have missing payments for three other projects! They are small but it is annoying as I did do the work.

seizethecuttlefish · 14/01/2021 11:05

@TeddyDidIt it is but then Payoneer convert to their pay rate. I'm not sure if I've broken even. When I'm home I'll check my spreadsheet.

@entrytohr

Potato Q! Do you email your list of any you're unsure of, with an explanation of why you're unsure, forever? It's taking me longer than any of the others that I'm actually answering! Not sure if it's just a beginner thing?
I have been working for them since July and I still email any queries although I don't have that many now.

I understand that you are meant to do that and every so often there is a message on Slack saying so

TeddyDidIt · 14/01/2021 11:19

@seizethecuttlefish oh I know - App* using a 0.786 rate initially makes it even worse when Payoneer then use their low rate to change it back again, because we get stung twice - I'm down around £20 on last month's purchases and I only spent around £260.

TeddyDidIt · 14/01/2021 11:20

@whysotriggered if it's Ne* check this month's invoice - my missing payments from last month have just been added to this month. I did have to send a ticket though.

TeddyDidIt · 14/01/2021 11:22

On Am** again - the double piece rate should make it more worthwhile going forward

LimeJellyforBrains · 14/01/2021 11:23

Yes @seizethecuttlefish the exchange rate is brutal. Out of a lovely $890 payment, I have got just £637.

I recently opened a Transferwise account, hoping to just keep some of the Ap payments in USD, transfer to Transferwise in USD and then transfer to my bank account from there, in bigger chunks (and with a better exchange rate). But Payoneer don't recognise Transferwise as a proper bank, so I can't do that. And Transferwise won't accept payments in from PayPal, so that route is closed too. Angry

Stupidly, I didn't pay for some Am** USD items from a USD balance I have sitting in PayPal, so that was my fault.

So those Am** purchases will end up being dragged through at least 2 lousy exchanges.

whysotriggered · 14/01/2021 11:30

@TeddyDidIt yep and I've sent so many tickets. This is the first time it's taken so long to sort out. Happy to hear they sorted you out.

Februarycat · 14/01/2021 11:31

@Crowsandshivers I'm the same they keeping asking for documents to verify my Payoneer account which I sent and still can't withdraw to my bank. I have tried to get in contact with them but no response yet

TeddyDidIt · 14/01/2021 11:33

@LimeJellyforBrains That was my plan - my first Am round I had loads of dollar transactions, so I left dollars in my account when I was paid by Neevo etc for the next round - but the last two rounds have been almost all in pounds. Sad

MrsWombat · 14/01/2021 12:03

I'm having a quiet month and need a kick up the bum to get more Crisp done. I'm struggling to get be inspired to get the 1000 minimum done, let alone anything else. Blush I was meant to be doing some casual work in a school but the schools closing means that's cancelled.

On the bright side, I got tiered up to 25 on Merch By Amazon so I can now list 25 t-shirts instead of 10, and I've sold three notebooks on Kindle Direct Publishing. I've also had a couple of nicely paid phonecalls for uTest this week which has made me stop panicking. Just need to stop faffing and do more.

anxiouswaiting · 14/01/2021 12:35

I've just had a good result with the December AM**. One of my items was a coat which I was hoping to keep as I need a new coat. Only it has no pockets and I'd prefer one with, so I was going to return and use the cash to buy a new coat. Put the return through and they have said they will refund me and I am welcome to keep the coat instead of returning. I can certainly live with the no pockets when it's free plus I have £30 bonus!

I've had several others that I try and return and the sellers try and give a % back instead of you returning, managed to negotiate how much that % would be. They are crap items, but someone may have a use for them on local free site and I have a few extra quid for it.

TeddyDidIt · 14/01/2021 12:48

That's good @anxiouswaiting

I just used PayPal's free returns for the first time (I had to return a dodgy item to Vietnam to get my full refund and PayPal refunded the cost of returning), so that's worth a look if there's something wrong with the item you received.

whysotriggered · 14/01/2021 13:27

@anxiouswaiting, that is a result!

@MrsWombat I hear you on the potato front. I think the max I can do is 1 hour a day and it's a real struggle. Both mind-numbing and depressing!! Yet I am grateful that I finally got on it, the few pounds I earn each day from it is better than no pounds.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 14/01/2021 14:27

@seizethecuttlefish thank you
