@Tattiespuds it’s worth claiming your expenses. I’m self employed anyway, so worth the hassle but for potato I claim a percentage of my rent, gas, electric, broadband and home phone (worked out as one room ((that you work in)) set off against how many rooms you’ve got in your property e.g if you’ve got 5 rooms in total then 1/5th- if you then spend 33% of your time in the room you’re claiming for working then you could claim 1/3rd of 1/5th of the total of these bills. E.g £1,000 (assumed bills x 20% x 33% = £66) - I do this separately for potato, alpen and my normal job (so worth forgoing the 1k allowance for me (especially as I only have 5 rooms at home !!) h.t.h 😃

MrsWombat · 14/11/2020 06:28

@Tattiespuds I think they pay the invoices recived via paypal a lot quicker than the bank accounts so there is that benefit. But I prefer the bank account way. I have an invoicely account (from my other self employed work) so have a template set up for them that I duplicate every month. I get Appen and uTest via Paypal so it doesn't really matter too much it's just one less thing to do if it goes directly in. At the moment I'm claiming the £1000 trading allowance for my expenses.

MrsWombat · 14/11/2020 06:37

I would advise getting proper advice but also look at simplified expenses where you claim a set amount for the number of hours you work from home so if you do 25 hours per week you'd claim £10 a month for utilities etc.

Does anyone know how these earnings affect universal credit? I know there's a work allowance of £292 a month. Does that mean I only inform UC if my earnings are above that in the month?

MrsWombat · 14/11/2020 07:19

@lannister If that's how much you are allowed to earn before reporting then I would guess so? It's self employment so it would be the same if you were earning that cleaning.

unicornpoopoop · 14/11/2020 10:48

For am do we need to take things out of the box and put them together before taking photos? I have a shelving unit I wanted to take back as it's £100 but won't be able to if it needs putting together first

ruralwanderer · 14/11/2020 13:19

@unicornpoopoop, I think you would need to take it out and put it together in order to answer the questions on the review form properly (can't judge quality etc without actually testing it). Maybe just be super careful putting it together, take the photos, then very carefully take it apart again to return? Most companies will take stuff like this back even if it has been built and disassembled (I did this with a toy chest from Wayfair earlier this year - it wasn't until it was built that I realised how flimsy it was so returned it). Hope this helps! :)

Tattiespuds · 14/11/2020 16:04

Thank you everyone. I absolutely will declare everything I earn from everywhere. I just didn't know how to make the most of it and be sure I get the max I'm entitled to from it. if that makes sense.

@lannister part of me asking this was to consider UC also, when I first started looking on these pages it was just for extra pocket money but after several months of furlough then DH lost his job and we leant too heavily on credit cards etc 😞 we (finally) realised we are entitled to UC which we now get. For every £1 earnt £0.63 gets taken off UC so if I made say £300 I'm only better off £111 and thats before tax etc so want to be sure what I can claim expenses wise to maximize my profit. I thought my luck was changing when I got onto Crisp and I could hammer all these to get credit card cleared quickly but now not too sure as I hadn't thought of UC when starting just the yearly self assessment.
Ugh compared to last year we're now in such a dire place😞

lilmishap · 14/11/2020 21:28

@lannister

I was told when I claimed I could earn £1000 (single 2 kids renting) it was only a year long boost and I'm sure I was told it will be stopped in April 2021. But then this £292 popped up and it's still 2020 so I'm currently waiting on clarification from my adviser.

It's a faff tbh as some of this can be listed as paid employment and other bits are self employed. It's worth actually messaging them in your journal and that way you've got figures AND proof in case those figures are wrong.

lannister · 15/11/2020 07:28

Thanks for your responses @MrsWombat @Tattiespuds and @lilmishap. I think i will just contact them and inform them of the earnings because the work allowance confuses me as well. I think the 1st £292 of earnings is disregarded, what am not sure about is whether you still declare if you earn leas than that in a month

lilmishap · 15/11/2020 16:30

It all gets complicated if they decide you are actually self employed.

YonderTweek · 15/11/2020 19:15

I've done it now. I've gone and ordered myself a pre-owned iPhone purely so I can do iOS projects IF I ever get selected. Bit of a stab in the dark but there are so many iPhone projects on Ap and I want in on the action. Lol. Luckily the one I got wasn't very expensive.

Also my laptop is on its way out. I really don't want to get a new one but I guess it's essential now because I can't do any work without one. 😬

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. 😊

Tattiespuds · 16/11/2020 11:52

@lannister yeh if you have kids or disability etc on your claim then then first £292 or £595 if you don't rent (rough figures as I can't remember exact) of your full household income is ignored before they then deduct £0.63 from every £1 earnt. You'd need to change your circumstances and add self employment , then and I do believe this is based on the person who reviews it they will then determine whether your in gainful self employment. But I don't know what that will mean if you don't have any work commitments in the first place or already are employed.

For me as I have income they will take £0.63 off every £1 I earn 😞

endofday · 16/11/2020 13:30

Any potato ppl get paid yet?

Also, is inx worth doing on Appe?

whysotriggered · 16/11/2020 13:33

Received my 3rd item from the A88r project, a camping mug! It's nice but totally useless and can't send it back as they don't do refunds just replacements.

anxiouswaiting · 16/11/2020 14:06

Clothing item from Am** arrived today, used their size chart to covert to UK sizes, then went a size bigger as I wanted it baggy. It is like a skin on a sausage Grin My husband very helpfully said ' don't worry, I will probably be the only person who sees you in it and I like all your bumpy bits '

seizethecuttlefish · 16/11/2020 17:11

I got my penultimate Am item. Extremely over priced wax melts. Omg they smell amazing. The scent lasts ages. Still wouldn't pay that for them. I do have a pizza oven cover to exchange if anyone needs one, any random item acceptable. They won't accept returns and it's that niche that I don't think I can even sell it on eBay Confused

Only one thing left to arrive and I have no faith in it coming. They've sent tracking info and it doesn't link to anything.

Just want to see the pay coming in as I'm worried I've done it all wrong.

@seizethecuttlefish
I've just had a look on ebay and there are Pizza oven covers for sale Smile

seizethecuttlefish · 16/11/2020 18:00

@Frenchdoors1 just looked and there's one like this one for sale. Half the price I paid for it but who cares, it's extra money. Thanks.

Frenchdoors1 · 16/11/2020 18:04

@seizethecuttlefish
Oh that's brilliant! 👍

anxiouswaiting · 16/11/2020 18:31

So after waiting months for my logins for Cab** (and passing the initial exam) I have just failed the next exam. 2 more attempts if I want but not sure I can be bothered, especially as there is then another test afterwards.

Another Am** has arrived, a very expensive false lashes kit, looks fab quality but I don't wear lipstick never mind fake lashes!

whysotriggered · 16/11/2020 20:55

@anxiouswaiting sorry to hear that. That's so frustrating.

seizethecuttlefish · 16/11/2020 21:38

@anxiouswaiting this seems to be the new thing where there's multiple exams. It's ridiculous. Hope you get through it, if you decide to proceed. I gave up on the last one. I just couldn't make sense of it. The guidelines on my project bore no resemblance to the exam.

That said, I'm not getting offered much anymore.

OP posts:
YonderTweek · 16/11/2020 22:26

I'm stuck with Ap because I keep being asked to do a qualification exam but I can't find it anywhere. Blush It kind of reads like I would have to fill in a survey first and then they'll invite me to take an exam but I'm so confused. Haha. I'd love more work because it's got quiet again.

I only have 3 A### items left! I also had a camping mug. Grin

ruralwanderer · 17/11/2020 10:55

Is Appen going really slowly today for everyone or is it just me? Everything else seems to be working well but not Appen :(
