Just that? How much savings do you have?

We have a home, pension etc. But I'm talking about savings account?

I'm 29.

And I'm not panicked about my situation in respect of paying bills. Ffs @Margo34 🙄

@Margo34 why don't you stop attacking people and wind your neck in. She's asked a perfectly acceptable question out of curiosity. It's users like you that make others just not want to bother asking anything. Stop being a bully.

lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 11:15

Clearly @Margo34 has got underneath my skin as I just asked my husband why he pays for everything and I don't. He says I pay for the luxuries, bought us two rental properties and I stay at home with our babies at the moment. He says it's the least he can do...

I'm certainly not a gold digger but would agree I've landed on my feet. I'm very, very appreciative of how lucky I have been but I've also worked very hard. Pre baby!

Around £500

jackstini · 03/09/2020 11:16

£170k in bank, but £130k of that is against the offset mortgage
Then around £60k in shares
Then approx £350k equity over 9 investment properties

All in joint names and accounts, I earn, DH is a SAHD and maintains the houses

Margo34 · 03/09/2020 11:16

@lilythepink32

I am NOT a gold digger *@Margo34*

What is your problem? 😩 You are sounding very bitter. There is zero need for you to be on the attack. Please remove yourself from the thread if you have nothing productive to say.

You asked me a question, I answered. That is all! Calm yourself.
ohsobroody · 03/09/2020 11:16

Barely into my 30s Grin I have about 4k, I put most of my spare cash into my pension and over payments on the house had before meeting DH.

DH 32 has more because he's self employed. Around 40k in 'savings' and £10k for the future baby fund, we're planning on ttc soon (on hold due to Covid)

We also own jointly the house we live in.

I'm not sure why you think having a joint account is from the 50s Hmm we have a joint fro household stuff and then each have our own.
I can't imagine not paying in at all, even if it was 90/10 split, it just seems a bit off, I wonder if he's set it up like that on purpose, you would have less chance on claiming half the house etc if you've never contributed ...

lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 11:18

He said we can get a joint account tomorrow if needed, we have just never had one.

Thanks for your input @ohsobroody

@Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget

Margo that is great for you but we all live differently so stop judging! What works for you and your husband might not work for others! She has said she pays luxuries and holidays has 2 rentals which are paid for and she will receive an income from. If she was the childish gold digger you accuse her of being she wouldn’t be working or of invested her money in property would she. They are clearly working as a team as a married couple should do!
I didn't accuse anyone of being I gold digger, I merely said I wasn't. Nothing judging about one having self-respect!
lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 11:19

@ohsobroody I bought us both rental properties so I wouldn't say I don't contribute. I guess I plunged my money in different ways, into our marriage. Everything is in both our names, even though the rentals were my contribution.

56, took early retirement @55
Income c£1.4k/month outgoings £900/month.
£25k savings.
Mortgage paid.
No debt.

Content with my little lot...

lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 11:21

@ohsobroody the rentals are my current income as I am on MAT leave. But once we sell them, they will make up our pension pots, so I see that as a huge contribution.

They are quite significant properties too.

@BeyondMyWits a great set up, thank you for your input

That makes more sense then I think it's just the way your first few posts came across, made it seem like you only paid for a phone and we're a bit clueless as to actual bills and financial stuff Grinas long as it's all joint names and you both have disposable income for fun stuff then it's whatever suits you best

Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget · 03/09/2020 11:27

Margo seriously get yourself off your high horse! OP sounds like she should have full self respect by not only working, contributing financially, raising children and her husband sounds like a very happy man in love! You scream jealousy

combatbarbie · 03/09/2020 11:28

To be fair she is in a enviable position 😉

jackstini · 03/09/2020 11:34

Oh and we are 48 & 44

lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 11:41

Ah yes, sorry that wasn't how I intended. It was just an answer to expenses.

Looking at it, my expenses have all been paid for upfront so I don't have ongoing costs whilst I'm off with the baby. If that makes sense? I'm self employed so my mat leave is whatever I had saved, hence my property investment for continual income. 😊

I think I always put off the joint bank account as I do like to buy things and wouldn't want it to be under watch. I'm happy for him to have his privacy too.

Right, this gold digger is off to do a mountain of ironing and discuss a joint bank account.

Thanks so much for all the positive and genuine comments.

You must realise that owning two rental properties outright and having savings and a husband who pays for the majority of your expenses at 29 is unusual though right?

To have been able to buy those properties outright must mean you yourself have a huge salary or come from a wealthy background.

I've got my annual salary saved pre tax, I save a third of my salary every month.

BammBamm · 03/09/2020 12:16

Savings have just depleted as spent around £20k on a recent house move. I now have just over £20k in savings but the work we're undertaking in the new house will probably be more than £60k so I definitely won't have any by next year and will up to my eyeballs in debt Grin
