Just that? How much savings do you have?

We have a home, pension etc. But I'm talking about savings account?

I'm 29.

Thanks @bottlenose301 - appreciate the answer and honesty.

That's great @FinallyFluid

Do you mind if I ask how old you are?

Chloemol · 02/09/2020 23:44

How much do you have Lily?

lilythepink32 · 02/09/2020 23:46

Only £6,000

But I recently bought another property.

I seem to fritter money as well. I love buying things recklessly and I just wonder how much do people save and keep back.

I was hoping it would me a kick up the arse to save.

However, MN always wants to find a fault with your thread instead of just answering the post! It's quite annoying Blush

About 7k. Which about 4 months wages for me, that is all of my savings aside from my pension.

SealionsAndSand · 02/09/2020 23:49

We have 3 years living expenses, 4 if we cut back. We are mortgage free but our pensions are shit because we've only just returned home so we'll focus on that.

We do intend to move in the next 2-3 years and will need to take a mortgage.

We are early 40s.

BackforGood · 02/09/2020 23:49

I don't really have any expenses! Apart from my phone!

How can you not have any expenses Confused

Surely if you are married, then your income / savings is joint.
Also depends what you are saving 'for'.
Some people will count the £5 a week they put away for Christmas - although that is ear marked, or the £200 a month they put away for holidays, again ear marked.
Do you count the savings to pay off a bit of the mortgage when the fixed term runs out ?
It's just a pointless question.

I could come on here and say I've got £1million in my savings account. The next poster comes on and says £2.47 at the moment, but I've got bills due in before the next payday. What are you going to do with that info ? Confused

NellyJames · 02/09/2020 23:50

@lilythepink32, are none of those things in your name too then? The mortgage? If so, you’re equally responsible for them should your DH’s job go to pot. If not...well, you’ve got more things to worry about than the amount other people have saved.

FinallyFluid · 02/09/2020 23:51

LTP

I am 56 , will be 58 and DH will be 66.

lilythepink32 · 02/09/2020 23:52

Oh for goodness sake.

Don't worry about my savings and my lifestyle.

I was interested in knowing what people had saved. I'm interested as the news keeps saying people have nothing etc.

Bloody MN! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@BackforGood

I'm not saving for anything!

I'm just looking to see what the range is and what's a common theme of savings.

I'm just being inquisitive. Is that ok with you? 🤣

OP posts:
lilythepink32 · 02/09/2020 23:55

And no it's not joint! We don't have a joint account, it's not the 1960s

OP posts:
oknowthen · 02/09/2020 23:57

I'm similar age to you op and in the same position. DH pays all expenses. I have about £25k. To some people this will be a lot, to others not much. I once accidentally saw that a family member had close to £200k in a current account.
Most people I know haven't been affected by Covid but lots are having a terrible time and will have burned through savings.

Not really on to ask for info if you don't want to share your own!

Margo34 · 03/09/2020 00:02

@lilythepink32

So you don't have any joint bills, you don't your name on the mortgage, your other half pays for your lifestyle....you actually do sound like you're from the 1960s!
lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 00:03

@ChanceEncounter

But I did share my own! Including my savings. RTFT!

OP posts:
lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 00:05

Of course my name is on the mortgage @Margo34

And on the two other properties - I own, but we don't have mortgages for them.

I personally don't have to pay for anything, my husband does and my husband has a huge amount of savings.

I'm just interested to know, as women, what do we all have saved.

Why is that so difficult? If you don't want to share, don't comment!

OP posts:
Margo34 · 03/09/2020 00:09

Do you live off a diet of air? Why does your DH personally pay for everything and you pay nothing?

I'm inquisitive and I genuinely don't understand.

MLMsuperfan · 03/09/2020 00:12

How can anyone have two years' expenses?

combatbarbie · 03/09/2020 00:23

Landed on your feet there didn't you OP.

combatbarbie · 03/09/2020 00:25

But in answer to your question. 40 and have 35k in a bond account, a decent pension and 170k in assets excluding the current mortgaged home.

lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 00:28

This feels personal and quite uncalled for. But if you read the thread you will see he earns 5x more than me.

He has always said he's happy to pay the bills and I treat us to holidays and one off things. I buy us luxuries but nothing that's a financial commitment.

He's always been very generous Smile

OP posts:
lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 00:28

That was in response to @Margo34

OP posts:
lilythepink32 · 03/09/2020 00:29

@Margo34 I don't have to pay it if my husband is happy to.

Why are you so bothered by that? You are starting to sound jealous.
