All the links are mucked up from the last thread so I've copied and pasted an old list. Hope they are right and please ask if you want a direct link.

@BlueBirdGreenFence Yes you will need to register as self-employed but from what I understand you only need to worry about things once you've made £1000. So if you work full time you would pay your usual tax (20%?) on anything over £1000.

Take a look at this: www.litrg.org.uk/tax-guides/self-employment/what-trading-allowance?fbclid=IwAR3Mks0NlJer4g6JsnJMOwMDsedJgJy8MP1AvUXUHhwDWmRrH8EkMSJXIGI

@BlueBirdGreenFence

I think @MrsWombat has posted the best link to explain the tax side of things Smile

I work 45-50 hours a week, plus this on top. I can usually manage around £200-£300 depending on what else is going on at home.

BlueBirdGreenFence · 06/09/2020 14:33

Thank you both for taking the time to answer 😊

Enchantmentz · 07/09/2020 16:46

Hi I am new! After wandering onto Money matters and seeing your last thread I signed up to a couple of these survey sites.
I have already done my first survey on prolific, easy survey but found the wording/questions quite odd.

I am having an issue with Appen, the first 'job' is welcome to Appen to get started but it takes me to sign in page and then doesn't recognise my log in.Confused essentially can't go anywhere with it atm.

Besides this I am so glad to find the thread and I will probably lurk until I have found my feet.Smile

WonderTweek · 08/09/2020 10:16

Hello @Enchantmentz and welcome to the club! I'm afraid I can't help with Appen because I have no idea how it works. A lot of people seem to be having issues when first joining. I think there are two Appen sites and I believe you want Appen Connect? Maybe someone more savvy could enlighten us?

Anyone else absolutely blitzing these Neevo call validation tasks? They popped up again last night and I went a bit crazy on them. Grin Just waiting for them to upload more... My husband got me these awesome wireless headphones so I pop one in one ear, do some washing, tidy up etc whilst validating calls. Feel like a right little multitasker!

SidVisk · 08/09/2020 13:43

With the Nee vo calls do they call you on your mobile? I still feel a bit wary of what information I give out so I'm not sure if I want to do those tasks.

whysotriggered · 08/09/2020 13:46

@sidvick yes they do. I've done a few, all seems legit. I would have a note pad with a list of openings to sentences just in case your brain goes blank.

whysotriggered · 08/09/2020 13:51

@SidVisk Also if you do them don't forget to do it in clearly noisy conditions. Loads of calls are invalidated because the background noise is hardly audible on the recordings.

SidVisk · 08/09/2020 13:57

Thanks @whysotriggered I appreciate your help

Haha. Is anyone else using Streetbees feeling a bit strange taking photos of what they're eating all the time? My husband looks at me funny when I'm sat there taking photos of my bowl of cereal at 11pm. Grin

WotsitWiggle · 09/09/2020 08:23

I've joined Prolific, I-say and Streetbees in the past week, small rewards from each but I've earned roughly £10 so far which I'm pleased with.

Nothing from Neevo though - the only thing on offer is the text elicitation on vehicles which is too hard as I don't know enough about cars!

I've started the U test academy too, that needs my laptop though so needs a bit more thought at the end of each working day.

MrsWombat · 09/09/2020 10:23

Just had Merch By Amazon sale number 2. I survived the weekend and my next uTest payment is looking healthy.

Due to rubbish circumstances, I'm now also in the position of needing to earn some money from home.

But I have no idea where to start and really wary of signing up to things. I've Googled some of the links given and am confused and to be honest, terrified! I felt like a rabbit in the headlights! I'm not very bright, not tech savvy, couldn't translate anything. I don't want to take exams and I don't want to be shouted at! I do like doing surveys though and am happy to commit the time to mundane clicking. In fact I'm happy to do any kind of mundane work. I guess I'm looking for the online equivalent of envelope stuffing or BT box construction, like you could do in the old days. Which, incidentally, I would be more than happy to do if anyone knows of any of those jobs going! Grin

I also don't want to have to pay money up front and I'm really wary about giving my bank details, which I suppose I would have to in order to be paid...

Jeepers, I sound so pathetic! Could any of you lovely ladies offer this scaredy cat some starter pointers or advice on a simple site? I'd be really grateful. I know I'm not going to be earning much at first, but even a bit would be great to start with. I am sure once I've got into the swing of things with some simple tasks I might feel a bit more at ease and be able to go onto more complex things, but to start I just want to get into it.

Thanks a million in advance!

LittleMissRedHat · 09/09/2020 10:29

Goodness, I've just re-read that, if anyone knows of a site that needs someone to pepper their text in exclamation marks, I'd be their gal. (!!) Blush Grin

MrsWombat · 09/09/2020 10:44

@LittleMissRedHat Do some surveys on Prolific. Smile

OP posts:
WonderTweek · 09/09/2020 11:12

@LittleMissRedHat You could try Qmee. It's just surveys and they pay around 9p to £1.50 a pop. It's a bit tedious but once you've made 5 quid you can cash out. I started out with Qmee and I was surprised by how much you can make just by doing surveys. I have less time to do them now as I'm trying to work on other things but I do a couple a day and cash out maybe once or twice a week (I only do studies that pay around 50p because I'm lazy). Good luck!

TheyThoughtItWasAllOver · 09/09/2020 11:14

Hi all - hope you don't mind me joining! I have a question about Appen, if I may. I've been through a few hoops and I'm almost ready to start, but I'm a bit hesitant about removing all extensions from Chrome - they say I have to remove everything and have a 'fresh' Chrome - examples of extensions I have now are Google docs offline, Bitdefender wallet, and I don't really want to remove them! Has everybody doing Appen done this?
TIA!

TheyThoughtItWasAllOver · 09/09/2020 11:18

I should add, I'm not keen on having so little security in terms of Adblock etc either, because I use my laptop for confidential work. I do have a second laptop I could use for Appen, but I'm not sure whether you can do Appen on an IP address different to the one I've 'signed' the contracts with.... anybody know if I can?
Thanks again Smile

LittleMissRedHat · 09/09/2020 11:25

@MrsWombat
@WonderTweek

Thank you so much! I will put my big girl pants on, take a deep breath and sign up!! To be fair, I shouldn't really be worried about putting my bank account details anywhere, there is no money in the account to speak of and I don't have an overdraft, so if anyone tried to abuse it, they'd be the ones getting a shock! Grin

Tinging · 09/09/2020 11:55

@LittleMissRedHat Populus Live might be of interest. It’s just surveys, they don’t tend to screen out too much and they generally pay £1-£4 per survey for 5-20 minute surveys. I have just received a £50 payment from them today to my bank but they also offer payment by cheque.

www.populuslive.com (not a referral link, I don’t get anything for you clicking it or signing up)

lilmishap · 09/09/2020 12:22

Flippin Neevo again, 264 audio transcription tasks and paid for 31. I'm too fed up to even roll my eyes

LittleMissRedHat · 09/09/2020 13:00

@Tinging Thank you!!! Flowers

DownThePlath · 09/09/2020 13:03

@LittleMissRedHat
Prolific is excellent - I even got dp to sign up the other day and give them a go and he actually enjoys it Grin. However, you do have to be fast as they go quickly.

Agree with pp's - Qmee is also a really easy way to earn money through surveys. Although they're usually only pennies, it's very consistent and there are always surveys so it's easy to build up a nice pot.

Ysense is great too. I cashed out earlier for a ten pound Amazon voucher.

I haven't been paid by Neevo for a while thinking about it. Quite annoyed as I finished over a thousand tasks weeks ago and still nothing yet

WonderTweek · 09/09/2020 13:24

Oh yeah Qmee and Prolific etc don't need your bank details as it's all done by PayPal. I have signed up for loads of stuff and I don't recall putting my actual bank details anywhere. Grin
