All the links are mucked up from the last thread so I've copied and pasted an old list. Hope they are right and please ask if you want a direct link.

It usually specifies you have to have 25 friends Grin
I'm not sure beyond that what they look at.

Catatemyhomework · 16/09/2020 18:51

@TheSeedsOfADream, thanks. I do have a FB account with friends on it. However, I've not posted in over a year as I got fed up with it. I do occasionally look at what friends and family post but that's it.

MrsWombat · 16/09/2020 19:11

@Nets888 Definitely don't include vouchers. I don't include prolific or other survey earnings either. Places like Nevoo, Appen and uTest are proper contract work though and they will require you to comply with local tax obligations.

@MrsWombat Thanks for your reply.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/09/2020 19:44

I've always thought that some companies offer vouchers to circumvent the whole issue of having to declare 'earnings'.

margaritasbythesea · 16/09/2020 20:39

I don't declare vouchers etc. My earnings are well under tax threshold anyway.

Azerothi · 16/09/2020 20:43

Bane still going.

Azerothi · 16/09/2020 20:52

It has gone now but they did say it would only last an hour.

Wolfff · 16/09/2020 21:12

You DO need to include income from surveys in your Self Assessment. It would normally come within the £1000 'entrepreneur' allowance. You can't just ignore that income and set off the allowance against Appen or Crisp.

Vouchers I think it depends. I think they possibly are if you are being 'paid' in vouchers. I would phone HMRC and get advice unless you won't exceed the £1000 in total.

WotsitWiggle · 16/09/2020 21:17

@TheyThoughtItWasAllOver I can manage just under 60 calls in an hour on those Neevo ones.

whysotriggered · 16/09/2020 22:43

Vouchers do need to be included and certainly cash from prolific and other survey sites. If amounts aren't large then HMRC isn't going to chase you about them but nevertheless they are supposed to be included.

MrsWombat · 16/09/2020 23:02

Blush I don’t include surveys as I don’t get more than £20 a year from them as there are more efficient ways for me to spend my time and earn money. It’s not worth the paperwork for me. Blush

I don't know much about tax return. Do you have to register online and if so, when is the deadline? Do you register online and then fill in the tax return by January? Is that correct? Online work is not steady income so it's difficult to know I'm earning over £1000 or not for that year.

Nets888 · 16/09/2020 23:38

What about income from from eBay and cash back like Shopmium?

whysotriggered · 16/09/2020 23:47

I'm not 100% but I think if you are selling your own items on ebay then no but if you buy stuff deliberately to sell it on ebay for a profit so it's a bit like a business for you then yes

I'm pretty sure cashback is a no

whysotriggered · 16/09/2020 23:50

@MrsWombat if you are only getting 20 or so pounds a year, I wouldn't sweat it especially if you are declaring the larger amounts from Appen etc. We are small fish to HMRC.

SengaMac · 17/09/2020 01:34

Nets888 for the tax year 5 April 2020 - 4 April 2021, you would do the tax return anytime between 5 April 2021 - 31 December 2021 and you have to pay by 31 January 2022.
I've had self assessment for years so not sure how you apply but I expect if you search for Self Assessment Tax Return, you'd find some info.

Thanks so much for replying Smile

Nets888 · 17/09/2020 08:44

@SengaMac, is it too late to declare 2019 to 2020 earnings?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/09/2020 08:46

No @Nets888 2019/2020 deadline is October (for paper submissions) and end of January 2021 for online ones.

Nets888 · 17/09/2020 09:01

@NewModelArmyMayhem18, thanks.

Baby89 · 17/09/2020 09:48

Hi everyone, question about appen connect. I've not yet been accepted by appen but only got two jobs in the process thing should there be more ?

Nets888 · 17/09/2020 11:11

Sorry to be so dumb but please if you can clarify.

So the process is register first with the HMRC and then fill in the tax return by January. Is this correct? And do I still have time to register for the year of 2019-2020?

I'm do quite a few surveys. Do I need to declare all the names of the survey companies on the form? As self employed, what sort of information do I need to put down on the tax return?

This is all so confusing.

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 17/09/2020 11:19

Well paid eye tracking task on clickworker. Desktop / laptop only. No shooting robots this time though!

cornflakehill · 17/09/2020 11:38

@SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock I can't see that one, is it under UHRS? Clickworker hasn't been good for me lately!

@Nets888 I seem to remember the deadline to register for SA is sometime in October. I missed it last year but the tax office was very understanding when I rang and assured me I wasn't going to be fined or go to prison Grin
