Maximum earnings to claim universal credit

Currently on furlough and my salary has been cut by about 50% Hmm. My industry is taking a while to get moving. What is the maximum amount you can earn to claim UC? Furlough is set to 40k. After tax I am receiving 2450 odd. I can’t afford to live on this in London. Furlough is also being reduced soon and I suspect my employer is milking the system for as long as possible.

I did phone the helpline and they said to fill in the form and if it gets rejected I can update it at a later date e.g when furlough decreases or I’m made redundant etc etc

Having lived in London, I cannot fathom how you cannot survive on 2.5k a month. You're deluded

Are you serious- you're still bringing home 40k on furlough, and expecting a top up? you can't live on the extra 1k a month? time to do a budget and look at what is essential spending and what is luxury....

Your employer should be paying 80% of your basic, so 48k is this happening?

UC is purposefully VERY LOW so as not to allow people to get comfortable on it and encourage them back into work.

MrDarcysMa · 04/06/2020 19:16

sorry ignore the 48k comment, that's over the threshold, you'll have to scrape by on 40k .....

Nic Im absolutely not an expert but I dont thinkn uou can get tax credits and UC. UC replaced tax credits.

If you tell tax credits youve lost your income though shouldnt tax credits go up?

Concerned7777 · 09/06/2020 06:07

@Nic76638 yes it sounds about right your tax credits will stop immediately after you submit a UC claim. My DH is also self employed claimed UC we have 3dc with my net income we got just under 800 (mortgage so no rental/housing costs in that).
Tax credits is a tricky 1 because if it's a mix of wtc and ctc if you tell them your DH is no longer working the WTC will stop and your payments will go down

@PineappleUpsideDownCake

Maybe people here could look at your outgoings and help?
Exactly OP said she was in London.

UC on 40k while not working? You're kidding right?
