We are blooming happy we could burst. Just cancelled our mortgage DD all paid confirmed with a call to lender.
Like most people had bad times during it. Severe illness (healthy now)
employment redundancies just quite an emotional day.
Apologies it’s not meant to be a boast post just wanted to tell the world 🍾

I’m so jealous
Congratulations

Passthecake30 · 04/05/2019 13:31

Excellent! Did you make regular overpayments or a lump sum, or did it just run its course?

WalkAwaySugarbear · 04/05/2019 13:33

Yay. Can't wait for this day.

BambooBoobam · 04/05/2019 13:34

Congratulations! Flowers

Mumof1andacat · 04/05/2019 13:34

We paid ours off this week to :)

SimplyPut · 04/05/2019 13:35

Congratulations!

TheVanguardSix · 04/05/2019 13:36

To quote the brilliant words of Robert Smith: “Why can’t I be you?”

Congratulations! What an awesome day and feeling! You must feel light as a feather, OP!

JaneEyre07 · 04/05/2019 13:37

It's the best feeling OP.

We still make the payment but to our savings account instead. It's all going to be for our retirement and a huge trip to all the places we've dreamed of for years.

Yogagirl123 · 04/05/2019 13:39

Brill, happy for you.

Villanellesproudmum · 04/05/2019 13:40

I can’t wait to be in this position Wine enjoy the security. Not as exciting but I’ll finally finish paying my student loan off later this year, £150 every months for years and years and years, that’ll go towards my mortgage.

Foodtheif · 04/05/2019 13:40

Wow. How lovely! Be proud and excited. I will be when the time comes! Can’t wait!

mogloveseggs · 04/05/2019 13:41

Well done!

OrangeJuiceandArmchairs · 04/05/2019 13:42

Amazing!

Do you have a plan for the spare cash now?

OhTheTiles · 04/05/2019 13:42

Paid ours off last month. But only a month mortgage free then moving to a new house and a new mortgage twice the original sized one to pay back until I’m 70!

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2019 13:43

Congratulations OP! We have 45 months to go. Possibly 48 if tgrbintrrst rads goes up massively.

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2019 13:44

How long did it take OP?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 04/05/2019 13:48

Can I ask a question about deeds? We paid us off a few years ago and I assumed the bank would hold the deeds but they said they don’t have a paper version, it’s all online so we’ve never actually seen them. This reminded me!

CloudPop · 04/05/2019 13:50

What a great moment for you. Congratulations on many years of hard work.

LazyLizzy · 04/05/2019 13:54

Congratulations! I've started overpaying so should be done in 5yrs.

Knittedfairies · 04/05/2019 13:56

Congratulations! We were delighted to have paid ours off a few years ago; sadly the brass band and flag-waving I anticipated never happened though..

NaomifromMilkshake · 04/05/2019 13:59

Well done, we paid ours off in February, I felt so light I thought I was floating.

We have a smallish loan to do the bathroom and kitchen, we borrowed a year ago and have over paid, and will continue to do so. We only owe two thirds and are sitting on all of the borrowings.

We are paying the required sum, plus the same again by two.

It should be gone in the next eighteen months.

Then we will save that money for a load of euro weekends, seemingly we are starting with Florence (my DH has always wanted to go there)

We have a final salary pension and a savings pot, so we cashed in the crappy little pensions that DH had accumulated in a period of five years, when he was headhunted twice.

Seeing this thread made me think about something I once heard (but no idea where) and I wondered if there was any truth in it ...... apparently you should drag out your mortgage as having a debt that you are paying off regularly is good for your credit rating should you need a loan or whatever at a later date.

Any truth in this?

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 04/05/2019 14:01

PS - congratulations BTW Coquohvan

WhoAteMyNuts · 04/05/2019 14:04

Congratulations 🍾

dontdoxmeeither · 04/05/2019 14:10

Oh I love these. Congratulations! Such an achievement. Was it 25years?

Sounds silly but when ours is finished (9 years) I can totally see me touching random parts of the house/land and saying "Mine!"
