We are blooming happy we could burst. Just cancelled our mortgage DD all paid confirmed with a call to lender.
Like most people had bad times during it. Severe illness (healthy now)
employment redundancies just quite an emotional day.
Apologies it’s not meant to be a boast post just wanted to tell the world 🍾

Well done!

We're due to pay ours off in about 7 years at 45 then all that money (£1,100) will go into pension/savings.

So many of my friends tell me how lucky we are & they'll be paying theirs until they're 65 etc etc but we are really quite careful with our money.

TellerTuesday4EVA · 04/05/2019 14:24

Ah.... only 15 years to go 😬

jackparlabane · 04/05/2019 14:30

Ten years to go - we're overpaying a little but with three kids entering the teens I can't see much overpaying in our future...
May even extend it a bit so we can have some holidays etc during those years and then use a lump sum upon retirement to pay it off.

blue25 · 04/05/2019 14:38

Congratulations! Must be an amazing feeling.

We have 8 years to go and cannot wait! Going to plan a little celebration.

Coquohvan · 04/05/2019 15:20

Thank you all, yes it feels amazing.
To answer a few questions-
We did overpay varying amounts when we could.
It’s was 25yr mortgage paid in 18yrs £800 p/m plus mortgage protection insurance, which we used when made redundant twice.
Our lender said today during our call that we would receive a letter confirming it’s paid in full within 10days then our deeds would be sent out to us in 28days thereafter. It’s all going to be explained in the letter we will receive.

Ohmygod
I’ve read similar somewhere too. We have family car payments and CC which is set up to pay in full each month by DD that should keep our credit rating ticking over I think!
We will most likely add to savings account, both have good pensions to come.

Congratulaions to you too

Congratulations to you too. Florence is beautiful good choice. We love to travel (now the children are married and settled) been to a few European capitals. Booked a week to the Canaries since my original post by way of celebration -:)

Nquartz
you are so right being cautious OH has his own company, he started it after a redundancy it flew but we were so cautious with money after redundancies we only took out enough to live and pay our bills.

Thanks again all, we feel really privileged to do this we are just a hard working couple who had dreams to catch.

BornInGlasgow · 04/05/2019 15:30

Congratulations OP. I've just had my mortgage approved so hopefully I'll be where you are... in 35 years! 😀

Magmatic80 · 04/05/2019 15:33

Ahh how wonderful! CONGRATULATIONS!

Loving the idea of carrying on paying, but into a travel fund!

DramaAlpaca · 04/05/2019 15:36

Oh, wow! Lucky you. We will be in the same situation next year, we are counting down the months.

Greengreengrass19 · 04/05/2019 15:37

Amazing well done!!

Can’t wait for this moment, mortgage currently 15 years to go but we over pay by almost 100%. Need to extend though so will be borrowing the same again probably Sad
Might keep it at the 15 years though just to get it paid earlier rather than going for lower payments over longer.

OrdinaryGirl · 04/05/2019 15:40

Delighted for you Coquohvin! It shows it IS possible! Always good to take stock and see how far you've come. You definitely need to celebrate. 🎉

NameChangeNugget · 04/05/2019 15:44

Well done. It’s an epic feeling

NowWeAreSuckingDiesel · 04/05/2019 15:51

I can't wait to be you. Moved last year, had 7 years left on the last place and 24 years left again now. I'll be 55 unless we can overpay. Feels like a bloody long way away...

MiniMaxi · 04/05/2019 15:51

Congrats OP!

AlexaShutUp · 04/05/2019 15:52

Well done! I paid off ours last year. It's a great feeling! 🙂

NHSPension · 04/05/2019 15:54

We paid ours off last year. I shaved off 7 years by keeping the payments the same rather than allowing the lender to reduce them each year, so essentially over paying.

The same amount now goes into savings so very satisfying.

Congratulations OP ‘‘tis a wonderful feeling.

To the PP who asked, we got sent a huge file by courier.... turned out to be our Deeds. It was fascinating to read.... lots of information about the history of the ground the house is built in through the last century. We keep meaning to take them to our solicitor to store! This has reminded me.
