Twenty Grin

Should we rename Castle The Hobbot? Bruv could be The Lord of the Rings - in keeping with kitchenalia parlance, of course.

In that case, should Yawn become Nevernever Bot? That's the house, the cars and the coffee machine now...

Teddy1970 · 20/04/2019 17:25

Anyone know if Castle is going to get a cheque this year?

Whiterangey · 20/04/2019 17:31

Case looks like she's had her cheeks done. Not sure it's the c9 doing the work love. 😂😂😂

MLMsuperfan · 20/04/2019 19:14

Is Roomie's FB offline?

Whiterangey · 20/04/2019 19:26

Castle hasn't posted a thing about a cheque. Neither have her siblings who are always first to congratulate the others on anything.

She hasn't even mentioned Stockholm which leads me to suspect she is trying not to draw attention to the rally.

In all other years herself and get siblings have been very vocal about get receiving a cheque for months before the rally. This year they're is nothing at all.

WoodenToyKitchen · 20/04/2019 19:37

Roomie is still showing for me

Bovneydazzlers · 20/04/2019 20:05

Hmm I think she probably will be getting a cheque with her CCs.

I'd have guessed her siblings lack of cheque chat is due to the fact that they didn't qualify for one so don't want a post to raise awkward questions.

gotmychocolateimgood · 20/04/2019 20:54

Does Castle Sis travel to nice places through her DH's work?

Whiterangey · 20/04/2019 21:10

Her siblings haven't even qualified for the rally.

I can't imagine Castle hasn't got a cheque, but it is nice to dream.

Am I right in thinking that you need a certain numbet of your downline to get a cheque to get a higher level cheque?

Her brother and sister haven't got one this year so that is two down. I think she was level 2 last year which was down from her previous level 3. Maybe she is down to level 1 this year.

Hi ladies. I've been lurking on these threads a while as someone very close to me has been balls deep in an MLM (Arbonne) for a couple of years now. It's been a long time coming, but this week they've finally realised/admitted it's a load of bollocks.

Anyway we were talking about it this morning and something hit me all of a sudden and I don't know why it's only just occurred to me. My family member was previously in a very abusive relationship and actually there are a lot of parallels between her ex-partner and her upline and they way they both treated her - both got her sucked in very quickly, lots of love bombing, false promises etc, then attempted to isolate her from anyone vaguely critical so that as the lies slowly became more apparent and the scales fell from her eyes she felt as though she was 'in too deep' with no support to help her leave.

I'm not hugely articulate so I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself well but the whole realisation made me quite uncomfortable that actually rather than empowering women, they're seeking to make vulnerable (mostly) women even more vulnerable.

Jonsey32 · 20/04/2019 23:59

OMG I was at a party at a friends house this afternoon who Easter egg hunt for our kids in her massive garden. There were lots of people there that I didn’t know. As one of the guests was leaving she gave the hostess a package of face products. I started to listen in and it was Arbonne.
The hostess who is a really good friend of mine, said she had bought this stuff off another person in a mummy group she had been in, but would be really interested to buy some more.
How do I go in to warn her that it’s all a load of pants?!
I’m also waiting to see if the woman friend requests me to try it in!

*on

BSintolerant · 21/04/2019 00:12

@OutComeTheWolves sorry to disappoint you, but you're very articulate: you've hit the nail on the head right there comparing MLMs to abusive relationships. These schemes are toxic, based on lies and false promises. Success (or winning back someone's love in the case of abusive relationships) is just around the corner as long as you keep on working at it, no matter how often someone moves the goalposts. In reality whatever you do will never be enough. Then there's the fallacy of sunk costs ...

Have you read Merchants of Deception, which was written by an Amway Bot who escaped? He had death threats and court action to contend with when he spoke out. There's a PDF version out there if you Google it.

Welcome to the thread!

What made your family member realise Arbonne was a load of bollocks? How is she coping? Thank goodness she's seen it for what it is.

From the BBC Three programme infromation on the documentary:

Journalist Ellie Flynn goes undercover to investigate a multi-billion pound online selling industry that mostly targets young women with the opportunity to earn big money.

The phenomenon known as ‘multi-level marketing’ is sweeping across social media as beautiful ‘influencers’ post job adverts offering the chance of six figure incomes, cars and holidays in return for selling products online. More than 400 000 people in the UK are already signed up and the industry has thousands of passionate supporters.

But as Ellie digs deeper into two companies, she uncovers a darker side behind these enticing Instagram posts and investigates accusations of illegal pyramid selling, systematic targeting of vulnerable people by recruiters and even brainwashing.

Travelling the length of the country, Ellie meets former sellers like young mum Vickie who only made £20 after spending six months following the training at cosmetics company Nu Skin in the hope she could make enough money for her maternity leave. Ellie also meets Lindsay, who has a chronic illness and hoped selling for makeup company Younique would help her cover the bills while she struggled to find full-time work. Three years later, Lindsay is now in £3000 of debt.

In search of answers and accountability from these billion dollar companies, Ellie’s investigation takes her all the way to Utah, USA, and the heart of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – the Mormons – where many of these companies are based.

This film raises concerns about an industry which seems to have remained largely overlooked by regulators and mainstream media. Ellie’s investigation uncovers a serious gap in awareness about the potential risks of becoming involved and lack of transparency about the true earning success rate.

Sounds great!

OutComeTheWolves · 21/04/2019 07:06

@BSintolerant it sounds like a good read I'll download it later.

In all honesty, I've no idea what made her see the light. In both situations (abusive ex & arbonne fiasco) I've held my tongue and said nothing critical at all, simply because I've wanted to make sure they had someone there for them when they decided they needed to leave. However I'm still not sure if that was a good decision or a cowardly one.

As little as three weeks ago she was at the merc garage with her upline getting inspiration and complaining (excommunicating?) a team member whose heart wasn't in it anymore. Then a couple of days ago I got a text from her saying she just wasn't cut out for 'the business world'.

She seems fine. My biggest concern is that she has a real talent (as in she's amazing at it) which if she wanted to start a business, she could use this. I've been gently trying to suggest this for ages - ie 'your skills lie here not selling other people's overpriced moisturiser products'. But now she thinks that the fault is with her & she's not the type of person to start a business rather that the whole Arbonne model is set up to make the majority of people fail. I'm hoping this is where the knowledge I've gained from months of lurking here is finally going to come in handy.

Spongebobette · 21/04/2019 07:34

Welcome!

There’s an Arbonne income disclosure statement online somewhere which shows that most business owners make no money. You might find it on the Timeless Vie site

LordWheresMyShoes · 21/04/2019 07:58

Thanks Jasmin82. Did I read that right - "Utah, USA, and the heart of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – the Mormons – where many of these companies are based." = Are they implying that the mormon church is involved?

BSintolerant · 21/04/2019 09:17

The CEOs of many of these MLMs are Mormons. The reason so many women get targeted, especially in Utah, is because MLMs are a good way of keeping women in the home - where Mormons think they belong. If you belong to an established community you're even more likely to trust MLM bots who are part of it.
