Excellent documentary. There's so much that could be he said and I think Ellie did a great job of touching on so many different aspects. The attraction marketing, being a product of the product, hero worship, losing friends, the religious undertones of the founders, the poor quality and high prices of the products. It is enough to make viewers find out more. Can't be accused of being unbalanced as she tried hard to interview the CEOs. Well done Ellie!

Ajgee · 27/04/2019 16:36

Probably as good an explanation of MLM that you can squeeze into 60min. Its style would fit in on Netflix where it would really reach the relevant audience.

MLMhun · 27/04/2019 17:10

Absolutely brilliant documentary!

Is anyone going to send nursebot the link?

Shhhhh223 · 27/04/2019 17:24

I’ve watched the documentary it was very good. I really feel for the likes of nurse bot and receipt bot these are people sold a dream when they are at their most vulnerable. I think the cult side of things keeps people in even when it’s clear the money side of things isn’t really achievable, tactics such as love bombing and making the mlm one big family, using the law of attraction to justify the plan keep people loyal and blinkered. Also for those invested deeply in these schemes imagine just how hard it would be to turn around and say you know what you was right it’s a con by which time the MLMs are literally like a family and people in too deep to get out.

Hunbot · 27/04/2019 18:08

I also watched the documentary and thought it was good. Hopefully we will get it to the most popular section and then more will see it

Jonsey32 · 27/04/2019 18:16

I watched it too. It needed to be much longer! You can only scratch the surface in 60 mins.

I would love nursebot to see it and for it slowly to dawn in her that she’s been a total mug and to escape as quick as she can!

Whiterangey · 27/04/2019 18:23

When it hits BBC1 on the 8th it will reach more people. It's in the daily mail which will reach a lot of people. It may be a shite paper but it reaches a lot of people.

Jasmin82 · 27/04/2019 18:31

I'm not sure how to find it, but there is a podcast tie in with the Today programme on radio 4 that's going out Monday which is potentially touching on the documentary while discussing MLMs. I know that people involved in it were recording for it yesterday and there was a long time spent recording. It could be interesting to see how much is included.

bloatedbird · 27/04/2019 18:39

I thought the connection to the Mormons LDS was interesting. Cult behaviour.

(Haven't RTFT so sorry if someone else has mentioned this)

RelativePitch · 27/04/2019 18:58

Just checked my Inteletravel bot page. Boasting about a 5* yacht trip for a spot of training (that'll be 99% of the time in a conference room) champagne and hanging out with boss babes. Someone in the comments asked 'how much will that cost?' ' she replied 'team members only hun, PM if you want to take another look at the business?' The reply was ' nicely sidestepped. Have fun girls.' Brilliant. Subtle but brilliant.

acatcalledjohn · 27/04/2019 19:04

Stacey Bosley, the economics professor interviewer by Ellie about halfway through put it perfectly:

"Buying hope. They are buying a chance at something."

Hope that the numbers prove can never materialise.

Younique Global - 1.23 million presenters:
0.02% make good money

NuSkin EMEA - >90k reps:
0.04% make 18k/month.
1% make £870/month.
89.2% make NOTHING

gotmychocolateimgood · 27/04/2019 19:55

I'm glad they interviewed the economics professor which adds clout and credibility. The scenes from the younique trainings were really powerful. #messiah

Spongebobette · 27/04/2019 20:12

I happen to know the young lady from Nu Skin who told them all to recruit

Her family is wealthy and that’s why she can make all the lifestyle attraction marketing posts

Whiterangey · 27/04/2019 20:14

I'm not a Christian but a fair few of those women in that room will have been. To be whooping when the CEO was put on the same standing as Jesus Christ is mind blowing

Jesus Christ is the son of God, he died on the cross to save us, is the Christian perspective. The CEO of Younique is the head of a company which sells shitty makeup.

Based on the Christian's I have ever known the brainwashing needed to whoop that is insane.

CurlsandCurves · 27/04/2019 20:24

whiterangey that had me like this 😮 .And the woman presenting it, ‘ I love him’ absolute cult like indoctrination.

Every bit of me wanted to send this to Nursebot with a kind message. Look, please just look at this, with an open mind. This is the reality of what you’re involved with, get out now. I really feel for her as I can see myself 15 years ago.

CurlsandCurves · 27/04/2019 20:26

Spongebobbette was that Tayla Blue or whatever her name was?

9dartfinish2nd · 27/04/2019 20:38

I am beyond thrilled at the wonderful job Ellie Flynn and her team did on this remarkable documentary.

Vickie and Lindsay, you have no idea how many people you have potentially saved from this vile, predatory industry and your courage in speaking out should not go unnoticed.

I will not be surprised in the slightest if Nu Skin carry out some "sacrificial" account terminations over the footage Ellie got, The Influencer bot and the chap who answered the question on unsupportive friends appear to have done some serious damage to Nu Skin's already battered reputation. They will throw a few to the lions in the hope the attention fades away then it's back to the same old tactics again.

The breakdown of the EMEA region income figures is damning, the 25 products in your home was also beyond belief.

As for Younique...... putting your founder in the same bracket as Nelson Mandela, Princess Diana and Jesus Christ........He's not the #Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!!!!

Spongebobette · 27/04/2019 20:49

@CurlsandCurves yes

acatcalledjohn · 27/04/2019 20:51

25 products at £550 is insane.

Be your own best customer, indeed.

I shared the link to the documentary on Facebook and got a reaction from an Arbonne bot I know basically saying ‘Arbonne is not like this’. We’ve two’d and fro’d with comments but when I eventually said ‘watch the documentary, and tell me where Arbonne differs and doesn’t prioritise recruitment’, I got just smiley emojis as a response.

I’m angry and sad at the same time. She’s both a victim and perpetrator.

SnoogyWoo · 27/04/2019 21:34

Just watching the documentary which is great. Went on LinkedIn and a guy was sharing a video about improving your income which made my ears prick up. He said if anyone wants to know more put “INFO” in the comments. He has had 74 people in 12 hours ask for more info, some of which I know. He has also replied in a few of them saying please fill in this form to see if you are eligible lol...

Jasmin82 · 27/04/2019 21:36

I knew a Younique bot who jumped to there, SnoogyWoo. Her claims aren't matching the photos she posts.

PersonalTraining · 27/04/2019 22:45

I've just watched the BBC documentary - I thought it was excellent, and happily it was much more hard-hitting than I expected it would be.

Well done Ellie and team!

Fables103 · 27/04/2019 22:57

That tayla blue is getting trashed on her FB page but she keeps deleting the comments. Half that were there this morning have gone.
