Why are MLMs/ Network Marketing 'businesses' a scam?

Spongebobette · 31/10/2018 20:40

This is the 44th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs
Over 90% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

Is the dancer off Strictly still an ambassador for FL? I always thought that was an amusing appointment for a company full of women 'Biz' owners with the said lady's history.

tasdee · 11/11/2018 13:52

A certain YT family who travel and have about 9 kids are living off Forever Living. Does this mean that they'll have a team of people under them all losing money? How many people would be under them for them to be living off it full time?

Electrascoffee · 11/11/2018 14:05

Its difficult to know for sure how much any of them are really earning because it's a lot of smoke and mirrors and a culture of 'fake it til you make it'

thetemptationofchocolate · 11/11/2018 16:33

Here's a little story from my days as an Amway bot. There was a big weekend do approaching. I know, now, that this was how our top bots made their money and the events were always pushed really hard.
This time we were told to expect a very special guest, who it was they would not say. Rumours were rife. We were expecting something ultra-good, and they sold a lot of tickets. The local hotels were bursting.
And who did we get? I can tell you are panting to know :)

Jeffrey fucking Archer, that's who. That was the moment, I think, that I began to resent the bizniz, maybe the beginning of the end, for me anyway.

Reminds me of that vicar of dibley episode when they think Elton John is coming to open the fair and they get reg Dwight instead

SSDGM · 11/11/2018 17:55

Craig David must be hard up. He was the entertainment at the conference I was at on Friday. Calling out to all his “UK Ravers” and “party people” to a room full of middle aged travel agents and their spouses.

I couldn’t stifle my laughter.

Paddy1234 · 11/11/2018 18:28

We got Ronan Keating at out last conference. He didn't sing and didn't wait round long enough for photos to be taken.
A complete and utter waste of money and a lot of disappointed middle aged women.

We have had a lot of celebrities but believe it or not the best was Christine Hamilton after she did I'm a Celebrity - she left the top table and spoke to everyone else - got drunk and stayed over in the hotel.

Think yawn is already worried about messing up her figures again next year!
New planning board for her - including managers in training who will earn 2k per month.
Pull the other one love! No one is making manager anymore. Forever shite is on its knees:

Spongebobette · 11/11/2018 20:06

Haven’t Forever Living made it a lot easier to become Manager?

OP posts:
Twentytwentyhindsight · 11/11/2018 20:27

They have made it 'more attainable', in a desperate attempt to keep their dwindling downlines on the treadmill for a bit longer.

It's an exercise in rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic, as the tiny number of huns walking across the stage in a cheap nylon sash at last Success Day showed.

As for the £2K, my OH made manager five years ago and the highest she ever made was £800 in a couple of months (and that's not taking her considerable expenses into account)...

Spongebobette · 11/11/2018 21:05

You know when top bots like Yawn bray about how their underlings are making 2 -5k per month?
If you are one of said underlings and you are making mere pennies, how does that make you feel?

  • as though it’s your fault, everyone else is doing well and it must be because you aren’t working hard enough?
  • motivated because surely very soon you’ll be making that much?
  • you don’t actually know because you are all confused about your outgoings and profits

Bbl bot has replied to someone on who was asking about the convention and said they have to buy tickets for it and pay for their own flights and accommodation!

Paddy1234 · 11/11/2018 21:19

That goal board!
We won't be seeing that again next year 😂
7500cc's for a business that's in free fall

Twentytwentyhindsight · 11/11/2018 21:20

A combination of all three I think Sponge.

Also, if you're far enough down the rabbit hole, you end up taking as gospel the figures bandied about by FL and your uplines, rather than a bank statement.

If you've been told to shut out anything negative and figures in black and white are negative, you shut them out and act as if you were raking it in, as that will attract success.

Reality becomes a relative thing when you've been brainwashed.

Spongebobette · 11/11/2018 21:37

Freudian slip perhaps

Massive stationary nerd

Yes, stationary, meaning going nowhere!

Oh huns, one of our #Ladypreneur friend, the VSister, had an argument in a bar last night with someone who told her that MLMs are a scam, a pyramid scheme. She’s done a live about how angry this made her! IT’S NOT A PYRAMID SCHEME!!!! PYRAMID SCHEMES ARE ILLEGAL! It’s not a scam! She’s earning loads, so how can it be a scam!!!!

Twentytwentyhindsight · 11/11/2018 21:48

@Spongebobette - I think it's some sort of Law of Attraction mantra. If she repeats it enough, she will stop going backwards.

SSDGM · 11/11/2018 22:54

Wig is anti-vaxx. Wonder if she will encourage her daughter not to vaccinate her newborn grandson?

She’s beyond ridiculous.

Spongebobette · 11/11/2018 22:55

I detest and despise anti vaxxers with every fibre of my being

OP posts:
ArbunneHun · 11/11/2018 23:18

So many bots are also anti-vaxxers. And many tout their unscientific, underdeveloped, overpriced snake-oil as the medical miracle that #bigpharma don’t want you to know about. And their scammy system as the future of earnings.

Hunbot · 12/11/2018 07:22

Bbl is making her minions take a pledge to give the business 100% for the next 6 months. Keep them drinking the koolaid

Norma27 · 12/11/2018 07:44

I forgot they made manager easier to get now because of the freefall forevershite is in.
Yawn can make all the crappy charts she wants- very much doubt she will manage to qualify for a chairman’s bonus next year anyway.

user1484830599 · 12/11/2018 09:36

Craig David! Grin

Yawns post about ripping out that beautiful stained glass window has disappeared. Her house isn't listed is it? Can get in a lot of trouble ripping out original features like that.

Spongebobette · 12/11/2018 09:44

Funny isn’t it.

You are a business owner and are in control. You work your business around your family, in the pockets of time you find. You choose how much income you want to create. You don’t have a boss, like you would in a job.

Also:

Your upline creates a chart with targets on (purely for her own benefit, to make sure you are making her money) and then is on your case, urging you on, to meet these targets (al in a mentor/ coach / supportive way of course) and you are exhorted to attend training, online and in person.

Hmm
