How much do you have left in your account at the end of the month?

So today is payday. I am always intrigued by the 'how much do you earn?' threads as frankly I'm incredibly nosy. But someone always says something like they earn £££ but have big outgoings too.

So my question is, how much do you have left in your (and your partner if applicable) account on payday?

Having being inspired by this thread, I now have £150 in my bank after moving some of my excess to savings. First time I've done that! So probably come payday on Friday I'm likely to have almost nothing.

namastayinbed · 24/10/2018 08:59

We have a zero based budget so usually nothing. Overdrawn this time though as needed some work clothes and these weren't budgeted for.

Orangesandlemons82 · 24/10/2018 09:03
  1. Last week of the month is always stressful.
CaseStudyResearch · 24/10/2018 09:06

Anywhere between 300-800 depending on the month. I’ll probably have about 400 left this month and will put most of it to paying off my credit card.

DH has about 2k every month - that goes to the house fund and mine goes to entertainment/presents etc.

homebirds · 24/10/2018 09:08

£3k overdrawn every month - that's my OD limit

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 24/10/2018 09:14

There’s about £12 in our joint account but it’s been a weird month moving money from savings (two expensive car repairs) so I’m not sure how much has gone in and out. Next month should be better.

chocolateavocado99 · 24/10/2018 09:26

Usually less than £100 but we do transfer a large amount into savings / pensions every payday.

TheWiseWomansFear · 24/10/2018 09:39

£0

But I do send £200 a month to my mum who is holding it until I have £2k to pay my overdraft off 😂

SagelyNodding · 24/10/2018 09:42

About 400€. Unfortunately that will be eaten by an unexpected car problem, leaving me with - 100 😞 It never seems to get better...it's shit

pumpkinpie01 · 24/10/2018 09:46

We have £79 left until Monday , I got paid yesterday but we dont touch my wages at all as all the direct debits go out of my account, there is usually about £100 left of my wages but this month Im spending it on xmas presents so we are not dipping in to that £100 before Monday. I had to pay £90 at the dentist yesterday so would have had £169 which would have felt like a lot for this time of the month.

pumpkinpie01 · 24/10/2018 09:49

@notangelinajolie - how do you pay nominal amounts off your mortgage please ? Do you just have the payment details set up on your phone ?

MissCalamity · 24/10/2018 10:08

About £100 of "my" money (I put 60% into a joint account that pays for bills/food/kids clubs etc) After my mobile/gym/contact lenses other stuff gets paid I normally have about £100 but that never lasts me long and about 2 weeks before payday I am watching every penny.

nowifi · 24/10/2018 10:19

I have £40 and get paid next week, it's a good month if I'm not in my overdraft!

HollidayArmadillo · 24/10/2018 10:44

We give ever penny a purpose otherwise we would just fritter it all away

We have a 'main' account where all moneys go in and out of which we don't use the card for - it is not for spending
So wages go in one day and all bills and DDs go out the next day

Then we have separate bank accounts for: food & car, kids stuff (any school related stuff and clubs and activities), occasions (xmas, birthdays, weddings etc) and a fun/clothes/beauty account
Every week as Tax credits go in that goes by SO to the food & car account
Then every 4 weeks the child benefit money gets split between the others by SO
We always try to spend less than goes in so we have some money building up in the accounts too

Then any money going into the main account from things like - the bit leftover from bills, selling things, working overtime, second jobs, surveys, cash back apps, putting the penny jar in the bank etc etc all builds up over the month and the day before pay day we pay off debts (we have a lot) and we start the new month with a clean slate
No savings yet besides a £500 emergency fund until debts are paid off

So ... technically zero but not because we have no money iyswim

PrimalLass · 24/10/2018 10:55

This month - a few hundred but it is accounted for because I'm waiting for the music lessons bill.

Villanellesproudmum · 24/10/2018 11:28

About £110 until pay day next Tuesday, shouldn’t need food though but going out for the day tomorrow and one day over the weekend so that’ll be gone. I’m not great at not spending and will be no spend November in prep for Christmas. Last pay day before Christmas Shock

FuzzBallMushroomP · 24/10/2018 11:46

DH gets paid on Friday and there's roughly £40 in the joint account, shouldn't need to buy anything before then.
We got hit with a tax credits overpayment so the last few months have been tighter than usual.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/10/2018 12:00

Approx £180 until DH gets paid on Fri (I get paid on Mon). I need to pay £30 on train fare before then, and DH is going food shopping today. The money really ought to last us until Mon - we have a night out on Friday but is drinks only, not dinner, so hopefully won't be too extortionate, and the rest of the weekend it's just any child-entertainment costs eg paying into swimming pool etc.

OnARainbow · 24/10/2018 12:05

I will be around £100 in the red by the time I get paid on Friday.
Has been an expensive month but one where my partner and I are seriously looking at our expenditures.
We have had over £15000 pay increases in the last 18 months between us but never seem to have money which is mad!
Major budgeting happening going forward as we can't be frittering away our money as we do.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 24/10/2018 12:19

between €500 - €1,000 left on my account (which goes directly to the savings account). Not sure about DP, I'd assume about the same.

We are trying to save as much as possible, so we can buy a land to build on Smile

Rungirlrunning · 24/10/2018 12:31

About £400 overdrawn. There's £200 going in on Monday but otherwise we're living off overdraft until next month when we will clear it but be straight back into overdraft within a week as I'm getting about half my normal income as I've broken my arm & had to have some time off plus can't work at full capacity (SE so unpaid ) . It's going to be a lean Christmas this year.

Wilberforce2 · 24/10/2018 12:37

I get paid Friday and have just received. Text from my bank telling me that my overnight balance was 33p

notangelinajolie · 24/10/2018 12:40

I can log onto my mortgage online. I just click on the tab that says 'make a lump payment'. They take the payment a few days later from my bank account. It's not a special mortgage or anything - just one of the big high street banks on their online banking page.

greencatbluecat · 24/10/2018 13:59

-£199.99 usually .... (£200 overdraft limit)

NoSquirrels · 24/10/2018 14:14

@Goingovertosusanshouse
normally have around £12 of my £1000 overdraft renaming but I get paid tomorrow and I have £90 left. Wondering if I will ever get out of this overdraft!

Could you reduce your overdraft limit by £50 per month? So next month you have £950 available O/D, then the month after £900 etc.?

I found an overdraft the absolute hardest debt to get out of, so in the end I think we got a 0% credit card that offered money transfers into your bank, paid off the overdraft with that and then immediately whacked the O/D limit down to £100 only, and paid off the debt on the 0% credit card every month. Somehow it's easier psychologically that way.
