How much do you have left in your account at the end of the month?

So today is payday. I am always intrigued by the 'how much do you earn?' threads as frankly I'm incredibly nosy. But someone always says something like they earn £££ but have big outgoings too.

So my question is, how much do you have left in your (and your partner if applicable) account on payday?

£0.00 but that's because I budget to within an inch of my life Wink

TokyoSushi · 22/10/2018 22:30

We have £48 until DH gets paid on Friday, but we have a 'big shop' of food, petrol and I have about £18 cash in my purse, I expect he has similar. We saved £350 this month too so not too bad.

hamburgers · 22/10/2018 22:37

Usually absolutely nothing.

DH salary gets paid in to joint account next Thursday and we have £250 left until then. By the time next week rolls around it will all be gone.

BillyAndTheSillies · 22/10/2018 22:43

Usually nothing, but this month I've got £375 left until Friday. That won't get spend so will go straight back in to my savings account that I've been taking money out of each month recently.

No idea about DH, we don't have shared finances.

margotsdevil · 22/10/2018 22:54

About £1k - we both get paid at the end of the week. We've got a bit outstanding on an interest free card though so every month we are clearing out the account the day before pay day and whatever's left goes to that card. We've both got plenty fuel and I did a big shop last week so I expect most of that will go towards that card this month.

Left after regular outgoings or in bank day before payday?

huggybear · 23/10/2018 17:10

In the bank before payday I meant. It's interesting

About £3500, I don't work and husband is low income. We get some benefits, but I'm very careful with them.

huggybear · 23/10/2018 18:19

£3500?!

MysteriousQuinn · 23/10/2018 18:30

Usually about £200 in the joint account and £1000 in my account (high interest current account so that's actually mostly savings). No idea about dh's but knowing him it could range from £50-£500.

mummy2boys53 · 23/10/2018 22:26

We have 228 left in our account and I get paid Thursday. I always leave £100 in there so I'll be transferring over £128 to savings tomorrow night as I won't spend anything more before then.

Ariela · 23/10/2018 22:32

Exactly the same as I have at the end of the previous month, a sum of ££ as a buffer : surplus goes to savings.

Girlicorne · 24/10/2018 00:53

Nothing!! I ve had a NIL balance for the last 10 days!! I pay all the bills but DH gets paid weekly and we use that for fuel/food/fun. We ve had a rough year financially, aiming to save 5k by this time next year.

KanielOutis · 24/10/2018 06:58

We don't have anything in the current account at the end of the month, but we set aside £100 for savings at the start of the month. We've only been doing this for six months, but it's a good habit to get into. I barely notice the savings go out. Just treat it like any other bill.

Fairylea · 24/10/2018 07:12

Nothing. We are overdrawn by £1500. When money comes in tomorrow it brings us back to 0.

Changedtoprotect · 24/10/2018 07:28

A few thousand. I like our slush fund in joint account to be 5k before I move to savings as I need to have emergency money on standby for just in case issues. Because of house repairs we haven't made this for a while but we have a couple of k so I don't need to worry about the small stuff

Ragwort · 24/10/2018 07:30

A few pounds but that is deliberate as I put quite a bit into savings/pensions at the beginning of the month. I never understand the point of these threads Confused everyone spends their money differently. The fact that I save a couple of hundred a month has given me a comfortable saving pot; I know my brother earns considerably more than me but he spends everything he earns on nice cars, designer clothes, holidays etc. has no savings & moans about how well off I am Grin. I can only save money because I choose not to spend it on non-essentials.

AllAtHome · 24/10/2018 07:32

I have -£230.

Can never get on top of it Sad

Cowardlycustard2 · 24/10/2018 07:33

Get paid on Friday, got £400 left in joint account and have done shopping etc. Only have cash left over since paying off our mortgage a couple of years ago. Before would have been 0. My personal bank account I usually have about £20 left if I'm lucky!

Etino · 24/10/2018 07:37

Not sure, money gets shifted from current to savings and back all month. Blush
As an aside I was really shocked to hear that a colleague has £9 left this moneys until pay day; expenses are paid via BACS after pay day and she’s owed £50. She’s new and doesn’t want to make a fuss. Our payday is tomorrow so I might buy the debt if payroll won’t give her cash.
We work for a charity, much of our work is helping clients manage their money. 🙄

Tisfortired · 24/10/2018 07:41

I get paid on Tuesday and have £2.20!

That is just my personal account though, all bills and food are paid for through the joint account which we both shift £1k a month into, I just checked in there and we have £36 in there with nothing due to come out.

Longdistance · 24/10/2018 07:42

I have usually have about £100 left before payday, but I’ve already shifted money to a savings account or 3 when I first got paid, which is what I’ll do when I get paid next week.
I have one access account for emergencies, another account that I can only retrieve money once a year, if more the interest rate goes down, and the other is a regular saver that’s tied in until early next year.

Goingovertosusanshouse · 24/10/2018 07:48

I normally have around £12 of my £1000 overdraft renaming but I get paid tomorrow and I have £90 left. Wondering if I will ever get out of this overdraft!

Moreisnnogedag · 24/10/2018 07:48

I’ve just checked - £0.02. I have a fiver in my purse which I discovered today so that’s a bonus.

We draw cash for the food budget at the start and I have the most impressive excel spreadsheet so we don’t overspend.

Having said that I spent a load on diy stuff last week because I knew I had it in the bank. If we were right I wouldn’t have done.
