Welcome Queen!

What MLM were you with, what made you change your mind about them?

@Fence80786 That's interesting that Mr Yawn is trying to find a job. Their mortgage must be crippling them. The $150k cheque in 2016 was meant to increase each year, not disappear into nothingness.

I know nothing about linkedin, but who is going to believe she has made hundreds of people 6 figure incomes, surely you would just have all that money for yourself instead.

Expect to see a lot more from 'The Aloe Vera Company' - it is new branding launched in Dallas.

Has anyone ever used a mindset coach? I work in a huge company and have dealings with lots of people and have never come across one. Tax advisers, accountants and the odd coaching for conferences but never mindset. I can't see the company I work for ever engaging a mentor from a former FL bot.

Paddy1234 · 13/05/2018 09:36

So Uber said she was supposed to be speaking at the event yesterday - that's strange as on the running order from the 4th May her name wasn't on it. I wonder if she knew it just wasn't going to be worth the effort and just dipped out with best excuse ever that no one could ever counter. Just saying.

GoldenKelpie · 13/05/2018 09:41

I watched Louis Theroux's Scientology Movie on telly the other night. Horrific and disturbing stuff and clearly can see parallels with culty behaviour in fl and other mlms. Mindset is definitely a 'thing' in both and used to exploit, isolate and eliminate critical thinking.

GoldenKelpie · 13/05/2018 09:43

She's such a liar, Paddy. Can't help herself, just got to keep projecting 'fake it till she makes it' posts to imply success.

Nakedavenger74 · 13/05/2018 09:46

Broke it's gone all scientific on our arses re his microsprays 'Its all about absorption'. He has loads of friends all interested or asking for deets or hoping to order more sprays.

Yet every single one of them is one of his snake oil teamies Confused

BangingOn · 13/05/2018 09:48

Paddy the organisation I work for sends us on a lot of behavioural courses- things like personal impact, line management training around giving and receiving feedback, coaching skills etc. Never, ever mindset training. I can’t see who it would appeal outside of the Bot world as I don’t think any of it applies outside of the Bot world.

In other thoughts- don’t Messiah’s new recruits get annoyed by being referred to as ‘the little guy’ by him all the time? Patronising twat.

Paddy1234 · 13/05/2018 09:51

I don't think no matter how hard you shake them to say 'Get out now - it's dead' will make no difference. They are all probably reading this thread thinking we are jealous haters.

Paddy1234 · 13/05/2018 09:53

I probably in due respect need a behavioural course 😂

I think Yawn's mum got her into FL in the first place

ArbunneHun · 13/05/2018 10:19

We do refer to a ‘growth mindset’ - which basically means being open to change, development, improvement. Which has to be a good thing.

The issue is the training content that you apply your mindset to: if it’s bloody MLM relentless positivity, refusal to listen to alternative points of view, keep doing something which clearly insnt working in the belief that it will eventually come good... well that’s not a good thing.

Twentytwentyhindsight · 13/05/2018 10:22

Yes, the mindset thing.

It seems to be a major step in the absorption into the more cultish aspects of MLM.

My OH would spend hours in the car listening to CDs she spent a fortune on (her behaviour got more secretive as I grew ever less 'supportive' - i.e. sceptical - of her FLP 'venture'.

She was also spending money she didn't have on online 'mindset trainings' with some recommended con artist guru or other.

The main effect seems to have been to drain any remaining rational & critical thought from her regarding the scam biznis (she was reasonably functional in other aspects of day to day life).

Any attempt at rational discussion of FLP became a game of MLM bingo in which I won 'House' in very little time.

Because of the secretiveness, I am not well acquainted with the finer details of the 'training', but I believe it broadly works like this:

Eager bot has been jumping through all the hoops, plastered social media with crap as directed, held countless pamper parties, stood in the corner being ignored at school fairs, alienated any friends who might have made a sympathy purchase, become a 'product of the product' and filled her home with FLP crap, but is still not making the promised gazillions- in fact, probably in the hole by a considerable amount.

Eager bot tells trusted upline that she doesn't understand why she is not succeeding. Upline tells Eager bot that she is not yet succeeding because she needs to work on herself, as this is clearly where things are not right (nothing to do with the 'business model' - look at my flash car & perfect online life and the endless plastic cheques others are achieving).

Fortunately, upline bot knows many who were faltering, but became super soaring eagles after having their mindset improved, for that is the 'secret' to success.

Equally fortunately, upline bot can recommend a range of CDs, in which world class gurus will reveal the route to success. These CDs are not cheap, and unfortunately, upline cannot just lend them to Eager bot, as the act of buying the CDs is in itself part of the path to enlightenment (investing in oneself).

Trusting Eager bot purchases the secret key to success and avidly listens to the soothing repetitive voice telling her that the only thing holding her back is negative thoughts - if she allows those in, the negativity will rub off on everything she does, and success will be impossible. She must therefore strangle at birth any doubts she may have about the biznis, cut off the negative haters holding her back by infecting her mindset, actively put a positive spin on anything that happens (e.g. it's a good thing I'm not yet at the level I was told I would be, as it will be all the better when I get there; it is a good thing that my relationships are falling apart, as it shows that I am truly dedicated and ridding myself of negative influences, it is a good thing that we cannot afford a holiday, as I have invested the money in myself and the future instead...).

Hopefully, Eager bot is now fully botted and prepared to believe anything, as to doubt would be to allow negative thoughts in, and jeopardise the inevitable success that is just around the corner. Eager bot may well at this point start spending more money she doesn't have on 'nice things', since it is positive to have nice things and will therefore attract more good things.

In order to keep Eager bot 'topped up' in this good place (for the fact she is still not making any money and doubts may creep in), helpful upline has also recommended an online mentor (by some happy coincidence, there is no shortage of them lurking in the MLM world).

This kind (£60 for a half hour session) mentor will repeatedly explain to Eager bot that there are still pockets of negativity in her mindset, and he will gradually help her expel them, over the course of a few sessions. In fact, the mentor is so keen to help Eager bot achieve success that he will continue to sell offer his services for as long as it takes to achieve success.

Just in case Eager bot gets despondent between mentoring sessions, kind mentor has set her a list of meaningless tasks to perform, to help take her mind away from negative places. It is very important that these meaningless tasks be repeated again and again for this to work. Helpfully, kind mentor has also got Eager bot getting up at stupid o'clock to listen to repetitive bollocks before the day starts, in case her rested mind might stray to negative thoughts.

It is a win-win for all involved: Eager bot is not unhappy - indeed feels positive about being fleeced, upline bot gets to milk her for a lot longer, and kind mentor has a new income line (shame about Eager bot's family and loved ones, but you can't put a price on success).

Twentytwentyhindsight · 13/05/2018 10:31

"Mindset" can work, but only in situations where you can influence the outcome.

In my youth, I played competitive sports to a fairly high level. The state of mind you approach a game with can very much influence your performance on the field.

The same would apply to situations such as public speaking, pitching an idea or a job interview - if you can convince yourself that you have a good chance, you will perform with more confidence.

The 'mindset training' peddled in the context of MLMs has nothing to do with this. The model and simple maths mean you are over 99% likely to not make money. If you do, it is through sheer luck, the only mindset required being a willingness to lie and trample over anyone around you.

It is, as Arbunne said, merely cultish brainwashing to stop you questioning the lies you are being told.

GoldenKelpie · 13/05/2018 10:34

Blimey, twenty, that's a very succinct summing up of 'mindset' training. I'm so sorry your other half is in thrall to it Sad.

Is there anyone browsing through this thread who has experienced this first hand or through a relative/friend? Care to talk about your experience here, anonymously?

Nakedavenger74 · 13/05/2018 10:35

Yawn might want to know Bullshit adds up to 98%.

Twentytwentyhindsight · 13/05/2018 10:40

I had done exactly that calculation Naked!😂

SSDGM · 13/05/2018 10:41

Tropic stall in the race village of a major UK 10k race. Not impressed. The organisers will be getting an email reminding them what happened with Great Run.

Twentytwentyhindsight · 13/05/2018 10:51

Another thing- I wouldn't rule out kickbacks to the upline for driving 'custom' to the 'gurus'.

Paddy1234 · 13/05/2018 10:52

Thanks Twenty - a really good summing up and I can now see the good element of mindset coaching ie in sport etc - the genuine article must be absolutely furious of these upstarts thinking that can can do there job via a few on line courses and CD's. Making a mockery of their profession, that undoubtedly they have studied hard for.

ArbunneHun · 13/05/2018 11:06

Can anyone think of any other ‘industry’ in which the people involved are actively encouraged not to ask for data/question things/challenge the status quo?

Can anyone think of an industry in which you are instructed to shut down the rational, questioning side of your mind and just believe?

I can only think of religions and cults. It’s not how businesses work. But MLMs only work if people don’t question/ask for proof and data.

Mielabel · 13/05/2018 11:08

Wow, Twenty. You are spot on with the 'mindset' involved. It made me a little emotional reading that and remembering how I was when I was trying so hard with MLM. I feel angry at myself for being stupid enough to go along with it, but so glad I got out before it ruined any more of my career path. Still have a gaping hole I find hard to explain to employers.
