Thread 34 may be no more;
Thread 35 is quite alive.

Let's make sure it stays that way.

This thread is here to expose the garageful of lies pedalled by multi level marketing (network marketing) schemes, i.e outrageous health claims, unlimited wealth and residual earnings, to name but a few.

You would need to be a "Manager" your self, and at least two others not far behind you, and be on the way to earning, if not already earning the car plan bonus, and of course your normal 4cc per month to ensure you get your bonus. I think it was at least 20 people at Supervisor level, and 10 in each of your higher ups in your team, the maths was insane to get it to work correctly.

Eddierussett · 31/01/2018 23:39

Those planning an income posts are always cleverly worded so that at first glance you think that it is a guaranteed income but it's actually just a plan of how it could be achieved. Same as all the posts about getting x incentive next year ie: I hope to but probably won't

Whiterangey · 01/02/2018 03:57

How can you mentor someone into earning mid 4 figures a month when you don't earn that yourself?

All the 'Mentors' do is train bots to tell lies, they aren't even good lies. I don't think the bots even realise they are lies that they are telling.

I wish that at the very least that was a law that said that before signing up people had to read that 99.7% of people in MLM's don't make any money. If they had to read that and click a box next to it to proceed it might save a lot of people a lot of money and heartache.

Whiterangey · 01/02/2018 04:01

I was reading about facebook banning crypto ads, which is a good start.

Does anyone know if it's just sponsored ads or can we report people advertising crypto schemes on personal facebook pages?

I wonder if they would do anything if you report someone advertising multiple schemes on their facebook page. Only one way to find out...

ICJump · 01/02/2018 07:11

My juice plus bot has shared a health claim about the kids health trial. Is there something good I can send her? I can’t find timeless vie on Facebook anymore

Whiterangey · 01/02/2018 09:10

Timeless vie emergency shelter. They ruffled a whole flock worth of feathers and the original page got taken down by facebook.

Meanwhile there are tens of thousands of bots making unfounded health claims on facebook, not to mention those pushing Ponzi schemes, and they don't get taken down.

Also look on Bot Watch and the Timeless Vie blog.

@ICJump @BecomingAdultly - here's a link to Timeless Vie. Some useful stuff on there.

Has anyone here had any experience of being in the military and noticing MLM recruiting? In the US, the issue is being raised among military families but I am wondering if it is a problem here that can be highlighted?

Also, I just wrote a blog post on how the MLM model can never be fixed to become a legitimate way of earning money. It also explains why all MLMs are tarred with the same brush, and rightly so. mlmtruth.org/2018/02/01/why-mlm-will-never-work/

I noticed the ban on Facebook adds for cryptocurrency too. Not sure if it is just paid adds, I am assuming so. Will look into it.

Spongebobette · 01/02/2018 16:09

Superb post @toobusy

cozietoesie · 01/02/2018 16:38

Well done, Toobusy. Smile And the authors of the 'Guest Posts' which are a read and a half!

Orangeteddy · 01/02/2018 19:02

As someone in an MLM, I can tell you that the Military Family magazines target us quite heavily to advertise in their publications. I never have but others do and there are definitely quite a few military wives in MLM

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 01/02/2018 20:10

Good blog post Toobusy.

One bit that jumped out to me was the bit about characteristics of cult members .

If there are any MLM members reading this please, please read these points below. Sound familiar?

Below are some characteristics of cult members.

1.They use thought stopping techniques to distract themselves from the truth of their situation. They are unable to critically analyse what they are involved in and will not engage in discussions about it. They will deflect, or avoid any such discussion.

2.People in cults become isolated from their support structure and become dependent on their cult. In MLMs we see people blocking and unfriending, physically avoiding worried family and friends. I have heard of family members becoming estranged because of MLM membership.

3.In cults, love is conditional. Members only receive attention and support as long as they are being loyal and doing as they are told. In MLM love bombing is very common. Lots of attention is lavished on the new recruit and then this becomes dependent on how much money they are bringing to the upline.

4.Cult members believe in an ideal or Utopian future and their way is the best way. Quite often in MLM the business model is touted as the future. The current system of bosses and employees is sneered upon and people with jobs are seen as stupid.

5.Cult members are suspicious of critics and their perceived enemies. They believe that people who leave their group are bad. I have been accused of being a bitter and twisted, failed ex MLMer by people in MLMs. They cannot perceive of an interested critic who is concerned about what they are involved in. It must be an evil person trying to destroy their beloved company.

6.The leader of the group is revered and seen as a special person who can help people achieve success. I have seen many, many posts and comments from MLM adherents on social media revering their leader.

Orangeteddy · 01/02/2018 20:50

In response as an MLM member

  1. Happy to think about and discuss the pros and cons of being in an MLM and consider it rationally. For me it works well as a sideline, it won't suit everyone.
  1. It hasn't changed my relationships with my family & friends at all. Some buy from me, some don't. I've never suggested any of them join.
  1. I have a mentor but would be quite embarrassed if they 'lovebombed me'. I have made friends within the MLM who I meet with socially occasionally and chat to on messenger but if I left the MLM I'd probably only expect a couple to keep in touch just as I would with other work colleagues if I left any other job.
  1. I have done MLM whilst working in a full time job, a part time job & also whilst freelancing. All have their pros and cons so would never sneer at someone who has a job or believe MLM is always the best option. Part time work combined with MLM is the best combination for me as gives a steady income, pension etc together with some flexibility and the opportunity to earn more and use different skills when I choose.
  1. I don't think MLM critics are evil because several MLMs do need a very critical eye and words of warning cast over them. However, I do think some MLM critics have a tendency to lump all MLMs together as evil and cannot conceive that there are people doing Usborne, Avon, FM, Flamingo Paperie (new Phoenix Cards) etc who don't display cult like behaviour and can think & act independently.
  1. Top leaders are not revered in my company, they're just normal people who've done well. The focus on FL, coffee & crypto currency bots' behaviour on this thread only serves to lead MLM critics to assume every MLM is like this and all people in MLMs have been blindly led into them.

I appreciate this thread is to raise awareness of poor practices in MLMs and this does need weeding out, however please don't lump all MLMErs together!

Norma27 · 01/02/2018 20:55

The bloody lies that bots say! Just seen one of yawnbots downlines saying that her schoolchild came home saying everybody at school uses forever products, and a bit used the lip balm as it is the only thing that works on his chapped lips.

What bullshit!!

Norma27 · 01/02/2018 20:56

Boy not bit!

GoldenKelpie · 01/02/2018 21:19

orangeteddy I agree that some peoples' MLM experiences will mirror your own but we have heard ex-MLM peoples' shocking experiences too, and you must admit that there is a dark and damaging side to this business model, not least that 99% of sign ups spend more than they earn in commissions, and those figures are only from the rare MLMs that will publish them Shock, FL is one of those that won't.

No wonder many work a full time job to fund their "business". Its the lying and deceiving that goes on that I don't like. Just tell the bald truth "you won't make an income, you'll have to spend £xxx every month, go to lots of training, success days, buy books, you'll be pressurised to miss your kids birthdays and family events etc". You can't deny that it goes on, we have seen the screenshots, they are devastating.

Usbourne and Avon are so far more direct selling than in your face MLM six figure income, more time with family rubbish. I have never, ever been pushed to become an Avon lady by the woman I buy from. My friend does Usbourne and she has never, ever pushed me either. I've been accosted in the street by a desperate FL woman though, didn't know her, a stranger Shock.

Orangeteddy · 01/02/2018 21:36

Golden Kelpie I am actually in agreement with you - I have no problem with the darker damaging aspects of some MLMs to be challenged and exposed. I have seen first hand some FL business owners' tactics - recruiting at every opportunity (even when sick in hospital) and a dentist convincingly persuading her patients to buy the products. I also see a lot of poor etiquette on social media and fake lifestyles.

However in other maybe less high profile MLMs I see people who've blossomed in confidence, been able to create a more flexible lifestyle (e.g. Reduce from full time to part time in day job) and learnt new skills.

I just found that blog post lumped everyone together and gave the impression all MLMs were evil and cultlike. I just think that rather than make generalisations, bad practice should be called out in individual companies - as this thread often does - rather than automatically assume MLM equals exploitation and brainwashing.

SSDGM · 01/02/2018 21:57

So are the income disclosures of your MLMs different to all the others in that less than 99% of people lose money? I’d say even if it was a 50/50 split it’s still only a gamble for the brave.

Endless FM bots claim their MLM “isn’t like the others” and you don’t have to pay to join or start up... But how do you sell perfume with no samples? Do the customers just have to believe the seller that is smells nice?

PancakeInMaBelly · 01/02/2018 21:59

"Reduce from full time to part time in day job"

= more hours for less money

NatashaShingles · 01/02/2018 22:12

Dear god do you ever feel like theres a party youre not invited to? Ive been searching the streets and here you all are!

Anyway, how are you all you cynical bunch! What have I missed? 😂

PancakeInMaBelly · 01/02/2018 22:13

So the boutique thing... Looks mlm-ey here:
boutiquebabez.co.uk/pages/join-the-team

SSDGM · 01/02/2018 22:55

Pancake my thoughts exactly! Reduce from full time to 2 part time jobs which is essentially the same as working full time..

Toobusytowee · 01/02/2018 23:53

Orangeteddy, there are no good MLMs. Which one do you think is good? Which one earns you an income by selling legitimately? I’d love to look into it. I’ve not come across one yet.

Orangeteddy · 01/02/2018 23:59

Full Time = Mon-Fri leave house 7am, return 6pm, desperate rush to get back for nursery pick up

Part Time = only do the above 3 days a week instead of 5, work additional MLM hours when it suits me e.g. When child asleep in eve

So overall hours may be the same but the flexibility of only doing the commute and dealing with the stress of the office 3 days a week is brilliant.

Orangeteddy · 02/02/2018 00:01

Oh and plus lower childcare costs of course
