Thread 34 may be no more;
Thread 35 is quite alive.

Let's make sure it stays that way.

This thread is here to expose the garageful of lies pedalled by multi level marketing (network marketing) schemes, i.e outrageous health claims, unlimited wealth and residual earnings, to name but a few.

I had just started a related thread and someone has kindly linked this thread.
It's nice to see that not all MLMs are the same. They just have such a bad reputation (rightfully so) but I just don't understand why they do it. There are so few winners this way. I just don't understand (the reason for my thread) if you do have a decent product why not focus on selling it for a reasonable price, allow your reps a small profit margin and let the product find its customer base. Surely that would earn more money for everyone in the long run rather than becoming ridiculously overpriced products, unworkable pyramid schemes and appalling marketing strategies. I just don't get it.

ArbunneHun · 26/01/2018 14:18

Eeeek! Hiiiii hiiiii hiiii huns!

Nice to see you all here Smile

Just #poppinon to tell you that a researcher for a major state broadcaster (v unsubtle hint there) is looking into MLMs right now. He has a history of researching & exposing scams and if any current/former MLM participants would like to talk to him in confidence (off the record, guaranteed), then you know what to do... #PMmehun

He’s an excellent researcher. Part of the team that worked on the Panama & Paradise Papers.

Follow the money, honeybee. Smile

cozietoesie · 26/01/2018 14:36

Advise him, perhaps, to contact Mr Oliver's team, Arbunne. I reckon they have material coming out of their ears............

So, £2.50 a month to register on that website

Clever amount and she’s undercutting the official FL sites such as Forever Knowledge which is £10 a month and ‘no other team has this’

How many in her downline? If it’s 1000 (someone might know the figure, this is a guess) then she’s raking in 2.5k a month

Plus charging for tickets for the training events

This is all without the profits from the actual FL business or her Planner business

Clever girl.*

Or maybe not so clever? I am an old gimmer and remember what happened to one of the old Amway uplines. They thought they could rake in the cash by setting up the IBS company, to supply training materials & events. They got kicked out of Amway for that. My suspicion is that they got kicked out because they got caught, mind you, not because the company disapproved of it.

ArbunneHun · 26/01/2018 14:42

It’s for a domestic audience, @cozie so will focus more on the UK rather than the US. He knows his stuff though and is also kind and empathetic. If any of our MLM survivors would like to talk him through their experience, it would help enormously.

x

MumBlog4 · 26/01/2018 18:40

@arbunne I would definately and happily give my story if it can help people see the real truth about network marketing. Pm me, hun 😉

WindyTriller · 26/01/2018 18:58

I've been lurking on a FB weightloss group for a few weeks. Added my first post today and I've had a friend request from a member of the group... a quick look shows she's a JP bot. Meh

SSDGM · 27/01/2018 10:13

So, it appears mass reporting bots for illegal weight loss and income claims does get them investigated by Trading Standards and does result in them being told not to take part in any sort of network marketing while they are being investigated.

Norma27 · 27/01/2018 10:36

That is great to hear ssdgm. I’m really fed up currently that my daughter’s ex Gymnastics coach is peddling Herbalife to the kids. Bloody disgusting. I reported it to British Gymnastics but they said it was fine. Tossers!
I upset them yesterday by pointing out it is a pyramid scheme. They are so blinkered about trying to make money tho and they don’t care one bit.

Spongebobette · 27/01/2018 10:38

OOOH well done @SSDGM

which particular company is this?

SSDGM · 27/01/2018 10:51

Let’s just say this bot once had a Salon.

SSDGM · 27/01/2018 10:52

I can take zero credit for that, btw, but there’s been a live happen where it’s come straight from the horsey horse’s mouth.

Spongebobette · 27/01/2018 11:12

This is excellent news and shows that it is worth reporting the false health claims

Norma27 · 27/01/2018 11:19

Yawnbot is constantly making income claims. This week she asked if people would like to earn £1000 per month working alongside her.she used to say £500 a few months ago!
Would that count as income claims?

Spongebobette · 27/01/2018 12:21

What I find annoying about such income claims is that it is presented as ‘you can have the income you want/ are prepared to work for’
New bots are taken through the process of finding their ‘why’, setting goals, making a dreamboard etc then encouraged to aim for the income they want/ need
And if it doesn’t materialise it’s clearly their own fault for not working their bizness and not going to all the sizzles and trainings and Success Days
Nothing to do with the fact that over 90% of FBOs make no money at all

(If Forever Living HQ would like to dispute this, please do so by publishing your Average Income Disclosure)

MumBlog4 · 27/01/2018 12:40

@sponge you echoed my thoughts there completely.

I've been subject to this bullshit from greedy upline and it's not fair. ESPECIALLY since new mum's are an obvious target for the recruiting vultures.

Another thing about the top bots.... in real life ... taking away mlm they don't seem to have many friends. Genuine friends I mean. They just have "their team" and proceed to make friends with whoever is making them the most money.

I have also spoken to DH about flp as some of you will remember I said I couldn't bring myself to as I was embarrassed etc.... bless him he was so lovely but he said he did 'lose' me for a while.... and he saw the extreme highs and very low lows that mlm brings. He says that can not be good for anyone.... He's not a talker really otherwise I'd possibly note take to write his side of the story 🤔

GoldenKelpie · 27/01/2018 14:13

mumblog, I think it would be very valuable to hear your husband's insights into how see watched you over the time you were in your MLM, and his concerns about you.

I'm on an anti-MLM fc group (a few, actually Grin) where a poster is talking about his wife's involvement in a scented oils MLM (in the US). His concern about her behaviour had been growing (she wasn't the same any more) and when he looked into their finances he found out recently just how much debt she has amassed in the two years she's been involved, and is shocked to the core. He'd thought she was making an income! This money could have been used to fund their children's future education costs (university).

He's devastated and wants her to stop but it's not that easy, is it? The very clever culty ways these organisations use to isolate and manipulate their bots; finding out their 'why' and exploiting any vulnerabilities; love bombing then withdrawing support leaving bots with anxiety, worrying how they can gain favour again (spending personal money on products and training).

He just wants his wife back again, happy and fulfilled. She has not been that way for quite a while.

mumblog, had your husband approached you at any time with questions or concerns? How did you respond? Defensively or avoiding the question, or lying about your financial success to appease him? If he did question you, did it awaken any doubts you had? Did you discuss this with your upline? If so, what was their response? (sorry so many questions Grin)

ArbunneHun · 27/01/2018 16:40

So here’s something me good news.

I had a meeting with my MP about a year ago. I presented the concerns that I have about MLMs and how the regulations around them need tightening up. She was very sympathetic, and started tabling questions to the relevant gov’t departments, but then the General Election came along etc etc.

I had an email from her this morning. She’s been doing loads - talking to campaign groups in America, discussing with colleagues in her party and she might well talk to the contact at the BBC about being involved in this film we’re making.

Feels like things are moving up a gear.

ArbunneHun · 27/01/2018 16:41

‘Something me goodnews’ ? Weirdest autocorrect ever!

Spongebobette · 27/01/2018 16:59

Very well done @Arbunnehun

I really hope that the MLM resistance can go mainstream

BSintolerant · 27/01/2018 17:17

That sounds very promising Arbunne. Smile Let's hope that the government flushes out the buggers.

@golden .... I have read that too, I am also a part of quite a few groups on Facebook Grin I found Elle Beaus blog both absolutely fascinating and horrifying at the same time. It was reading this that made me quite sure that all MLM companies operate in the same disgraceful way.

So in reply to your questions, DH never questioned me or what I was doing because he so blindly supports me and I don't think he has an ounce of criticism in him, which isn't always a good thing. But I've spoken to him at length this afternoon and he said I was so stressed out and he got really worried at one point when I made myself ill.... luckily that was around the time I crept out the back door and blocked my upline 😂 so he was glad. One thing he's said today has hit me hard though.... he said he knew I wasn't in my right mind, id just had a baby.... I have been the main earner for so long in my home (we met after I was a single mum for 5 years) that he could see it was destroying me not being able to bring the money home but instead looking after the children. It was an absolute shock for me in hindsight, I wanted my career back (only 3 days a week though 😉) but we couldn't afford the nursery bill. It was a tough time. I always dreamed of being a SAHM but given the chance, I felt i was so crap at it I needed something more..... I'm just ashamed it was forever fibbing.... because I felt like such a failure 😭

Spongebobette · 27/01/2018 17:52

That’s really sad but it sounds like your DH is a sweetie!
