Can anyone help me with query about PPI?

So many people have had money back on PPI and I want to know if I’m owed any. Is there an easy way of doing this? I had store cards at 18 (18 years ago) and have had a few credit cards, a loan, car finance. I don’t have any of the old paperwork, so is there any way of finding out or am clutching at straws??

moneysupermarket is always a good site to go for any information about this sort of thing.
or
The Money Advice Service

Money supermarket is a compare site? That second link also doesn’t really give an information as to how to find out if I had any old ppi... thanks though.

Can anyone else help?

Try Moneysaving expert. They have templates you can use.

Was one of them Debenhams? Santander have taken over GE Finance who backed Debenhams and many other cards. There’s an online form on the Santander website.

They can track down your account details - I’d binned all my paper work and didn’t know the account number and they confirmed for me. Now waiting to find out whether they are going to pay out.

No I had a store card with top shop, no idea which bank, can’t remember the bank that I had a loan with either!

I have no idea which banks they were with so I can’t send any letters to anyone? Hence trying to see if there’s some kind of database (clutching at straws) that I could find all the credit is had!

Top shop will also be Santander now. I’ll try and find the form I filled in.

You can go through a company who check for you. Lots of adverts on tv. They do take a percentage but it saves a lot of hassle.

BestIsWest · 30/12/2017 12:16

Here Santander

They came back quite quickly and told me I’d had 2 store cards both with PPI.

BestIsWest · 30/12/2017 12:19

Also see this MoneySavingExpert.

You can check your credit record with Equifax for a couple of quid.

Sorry, I meant MoneysavingExpert. Still, at least I lifted thread off Unanswered threads for you Grin

llmb · 30/12/2017 13:23

back yes you did thank you!

Thanks for the Santander link, iv done that. Iv been on my credit score before but it was only recent things that I have credit on, not old things? How do I go about getting old credit?

Resolver via moneysavingexpert, it's free and relatively straightforward!

Santander have taken over GE Finance who backed Debenhams and many other cards.

Wasn't Santander's store card business taken over by NewDay a few years ago?

BestIsWest · 01/01/2018 15:34

I applied to Santander in September Monger and they were able to give me confirmation that I’d had PPI on my Debenhams card.

ihatethecold · 01/01/2018 16:09

How do I fill in the Santander form if I didn’t have an account with them?
I’d like to check I didn’t pay PPI with Debenhams.

BestIsWest · 01/01/2018 17:55

ihate use this form santander and just fill in your details. You don’t need an account with Santander or the Debenhams card account number. Just give them as much info as you can (name, address, date of birth etc)

They took over Debenhams card accounts.

ihatethecold · 01/01/2018 20:09

Thanks best.

Does anyone know how far back your credit file goes? My store card was about 18 years ago, I can’t remember when I had the loan and no idea who that was with, will my credit file tell me this?

Also I had a Barclays account at 18 for a few years and I had to ‘pay’ them about £12 a month for the privilege, does anyone know if you can get that back at all?

If your packaged bank account was mis sold to you then you may be able to get the fees back. I did as I never used any of the 'benefits' that came with the account and I was pushed into getting it when I only wanted a basic account. The whole process took about 2 weeks.

llmb · 02/01/2018 13:04

I’m sure it would’ve been mis sold as I was a naive 18 year old with no guidance from my parents! How would I go about this as it was so long ago?

Thanks for this thread OP and everyone who has posted. I have finally done what I've meaning to for at least a year, which was to submit an enquiry to both Santander and Alliance & Leicester. I don't think I'm eligible but I'm not sure....

llmb · 02/01/2018 13:33

twitter, iv also been procrastinating about a year on this.... I have nothing to Lose and I need to just get on with it! I’m just struggling to find all the old information and don’t want to go through a third party person and lose any small amount of many that I may be entitled to!

Iv also done that link kindly given up thread.... so I can at least tick one off the list! Just want to check on the credit cards but I find that unlikely....

OP, it took me less than 5 minutes. All I needed was my married and maiden name, plus addresses going back 20 odd years. i don't have any paperwork or account numbers but the banks will do all the chasing. My 1st mortgage goes back to around 1985.

llmb · 02/01/2018 13:45

Iv done the Santander link above for the store card, I just have no idea who the loan I had was with? So I can’t write to anyone ?
