Can anyone help me with query about PPI?

So many people have had money back on PPI and I want to know if I’m owed any. Is there an easy way of doing this? I had store cards at 18 (18 years ago) and have had a few credit cards, a loan, car finance. I don’t have any of the old paperwork, so is there any way of finding out or am clutching at straws??

Hmmm, don't know about that - the money expert site may be able to advise there. Or Experian? as I think a previous poster suggested? There should be a record of that loan on your credit history.

llmb · 02/01/2018 13:55

Iv just gone in Experian and there are a few options, any idea which I need? There’s. £2 option, there’s a free option, a £15.99 a month option with first month free.... none of them mention old records at all?

This is great - I had a debenhams card in the 1990s and wasn't sure what to do about it

Do you do PPI claims for bank accounts - DH has always 'paid' for his and I think he will have over paid at some point?!?

The Alliance and Leicester website I clicked on earlier and submitted information to range me twice this pm. Despite the website clearly saying AllianceandLeicester they are in fact an independent money claims firm who are just phishing for business. What a con. I told them I did not require their services.

What a swizz TwitterQueen. The Santander one is real - they wrote back to me.

llmb · 02/01/2018 17:11

That’s annoying twitter this is what worries me!

yes, the CFs have rung me 4 times in the last 24 hours... not happy!

llmb · 04/01/2018 16:58

I rang Experian and they only go back 6 years and that they don’t know anyway of obtaining old credit history without me having bank accounts/statements etc. Can anyone help or do I give up?

I found an old Amex credit card statement from when’s i closed the account, it doesn’t mention PPI on it so can I presume I didn’t have it from them?

I KNOW I had PPI on something as I was resentful each mo the paying extra, I remember but I have no idea if it was from the top shop store card, credit card or loan I had.... I’m stuffed aren’t I?

Do NOt use a company who will charge you extortionate amounts if you do have PPI.
Use Moneysavingexpert website, they have a tool called Resolver that you complete online. I did this earlier in the summer, not really knowing if I had PPi or not, and very few details, just my address at the time, who I had a loan with, and was even 100years out in the possible date! I typed in 1900 instead of 1990 😂😂😂
I got a call a work or so later from the company M and S, saying they were investigating, then a couple of weeks after that a big fat cheque for SEVEN THOUSAND POUNDS was paid into my bank account. No fees charged, took 5 minutes to complete the form.

llmb · 04/01/2018 17:12

But the trouble is the only thing I know is my name and address at the time!

I've found The Debt Camel great for assistance with this and have received £3500 of refunds in 2017.

I used Debt Camel for advice and resolver to make the actual claim. If you comment on any post on the Debt Camel website, Sara (the lady who runs it) will answer with great advice.

Can’t see where to post on the camel, I’m on my phone.

The problem is I don’t know what bank it was with

Also could I have had PPI without knowing?

Please remember that you have to pay tax on the interest you receive on any successful PPI claim.

Some lenders do this automatically (standard 20%) some don't. If you are a higher rate tax payer, then you have to pay at that higher rate.

JeanSeberg · 05/01/2018 17:36

Could someone explain how the MSE/Resolver works please?

It says:

All you need is your account number, the reason you think you were mis-sold (see The mis-selling checklist above) and the date you took out the product, plus copies of any of your statements or other relevant documents (Resolver lets you attach these before sending off the complaint).

.. but I don't have any of that info? Am I missing something?

llmb · 05/01/2018 18:59

jean that’s exactly my problem.

OP posts:
Bezm · 05/01/2018 19:57

I didn't have an account number, accurate date or copies of anything! I just knew that some time after 1990 I had a loan with marks and spencer that I took out over the phone.
Still paid out a shed load of money to me!
Don't think that because you don't have all the details you don't have a chance.

llmb · 05/01/2018 20:10

Money saving website says you need the banks name..

ihatethecold · 05/01/2018 20:11

Has anyone claimed PPI with Egg?
We had a credit card for years with them.

JeanSeberg · 05/01/2018 21:22

I'm stuck like you llmb which is why I don't get how it's easy to do it yourself. Even paying a fee to a PPI company is better than not bothering?

llmb · 06/01/2018 08:49

That’s my thought jean but which one....!

OP posts:
Bezm · 06/01/2018 12:23

As I stated in my last post, all I had was an approximate date and the name of the loan company. I didn't even have the amount if the loan. I left lots of the Resolver parts blank.
I must say, though, that if you have no idea who the bank , loan company or credit card company was, then you have absolutely no chance!
Just fill in what details you do have and press the send button! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
