I think there is a place for cryptocurrencies if you are doing something legitimate. For example some companies are now issuing their own coins to investors in order to raise funds - a bit like issuing a corporate bond or doing a share issue. They are going to have to be regulated at some point in the future though because at the moment you have no idea who your investors are, and that is easily abused by money launderers.

These cryptocurrency MLMs are nothing like that though - they are just giant Ponzi schemes shifting money around between the people in the scheme.

ArbunneHun · 06/09/2017 15:28

Not all cryptocurrencies are MLMs. But any cryptocurrency that isn't traded on a reputable exchange or any 'investment scheme' that incentivises you to bring in other 'investors' is a scam.

cozietoesie · 06/09/2017 15:54

That's true. But the dodgy ones are using all sorts of 'techno-babble' to fool people.

'twas ever thus, I guess. Sad

SSDGM · 06/09/2017 19:16

Ok. The results of my two weeks on Valentus coffee. Honest and open. I took 1 sachet a day with either oat milk and a sweetener or mixed into an instant hot chocolate.
I did lose weight. Ok, not a great deal, about 3.5lbs. The reason behind that is definitely whatever is in it did kill off my appetite. I had more energy, but definitely felt a little wired at times and it did make getting to sleep before 1 am challenging.

It didn't have any kind of laxative effect (thankfully)

It tastes DISGUSTING. It really does taste like it's had a fag end in it. As I illustrated in the previous thread there are non soluble white coloured bits in the powder and they would hang around at the bottom on the mug, giving the last sips a crunchy texture. By the end of the two weeks I was dreading the smell of the stuff. It reminded me of pub carpets in the 90's. It is absolutely not worth the £50 a month "distribotors" were flogging it at. I also don't think that any long term use would be good for you.

Incidentally I was due a routine blood test during my two week trial and will be interested to see if anything comes up on my (usually healthly) results.

Next step is to see if I put the weight back on quickly and my appetite returns.

Interesting take on crypto currency www.google.co.uk/amp/www.haaretz.com/amp/world-news/.premium-1.810914

ArbunneHun · 06/09/2017 19:26

Interesting read. It's very much the lack of regulation which makes the whole business such a magnet for the unscrupulous and a haven for scams.

Toobusytowee · 06/09/2017 19:58

Do any of you here know much about charities? I know we have at least one charity worker here.

I've been investigating a charity that has been set up by Jamberry. They claim to be giving money to shelters for domestic abuse victims in all the countries they operate. I can't find it registered by the charities commission. Their 4 aims are-

  1. Get bots to tell people about the charity at parties.
  2. Get bots to volunteer their time and put nail stickers on women in shelters.
  3. Get bots to sell campaign nail stickers where a proportion of the proceeds go to the charity.
  4. Give money raised to local shelters.

I want to see if they actually gave any money to British shelters and if so, how much.

Toobusytowee · 06/09/2017 20:00

The charity is called 'Fight against domestic violence foundation'.

fitgirl26 · 06/09/2017 20:12

I work for a charity. Their literature should state a registered charity number if it's a UK charity so you can look at their accounts.

Toobusytowee · 06/09/2017 20:15

I've only found American information- Facebook posts and YouTube videos. They just tag at the end that they operate in all countries where Jamberry are. I want to find evidence it is true

fitgirl26 · 06/09/2017 20:16

Ah - looks like it's based in Utah. Figures. I wonder if people actually speak Bot language in Utah - casually sit over a coffee and shout about SMASHING MY BUSINESS to everyone.

Spongebobette · 06/09/2017 20:31

Utah?

You astound me

BSintolerant · 06/09/2017 20:53

SSDGM could your weight loss be attributed to diuretic properties of the alleged coffee?

I'm still intrigued and disturbed by the insoluable white bits.

BSintolerant · 06/09/2017 20:54

*insoluble!

Sausage fingers.

SSDGM · 06/09/2017 21:11

BSintolerant - yes, it could well be. This is why I'm waiting to see if it all goes straight back on over the next two weeks. cant say I've noticed I was peeing more, but there's a good chance it's just water.

ArbunneHun · 06/09/2017 21:12

@Toobusy, by 'operate' do they not mean that any funds raised around the world go toward the charitable works in the US? Like the Youneeeeek! Defending Innocence Foundation? Charity fundraising is a useful thing to offset against corporation tax in America

cozietoesie · 06/09/2017 21:20

Soooooo cynical, Arbunne. Grin

Toobusytowee · 06/09/2017 21:59

Arbunn, they definitely say that funds raised in the U.K. go to charities in the UK. I would have thought a company that collects and distributes grants to other charities would have to be registered here. Maybe not?

TheRealBarnbot · 06/09/2017 22:40

Any charity in the uk has to be registered so you would be able to find info quite easily if it was xx

TrippleFlappyDiamondSparrow · 07/09/2017 00:02

I reckon expensivemakeupbrandnamebot is deffo gutted brokebot has created another offspring.

BSintolerant · 07/09/2017 08:25

Is it set up as a grant-making Trust, rather than a charity Toobusy?

fitgirl26 · 07/09/2017 09:26

Well I have access to the Directory of Social change database of grant making trusts - I've done a search and it's not on there.

Lallypopstick · 07/09/2017 14:28

Had my first session of Waterbabies today and in the bag they give you with information etc in, there was a flier for Arbonne. Even staying off social media doesn't stop you getting infected!

cozietoesie · 07/09/2017 14:55

Who is responsible for the bag?

WindyTriller · 07/09/2017 15:35

It will be whoever is the franchise owner for the particular Waterbabies branch. They probably charge a small fee for businesses to advertise
