Hi, I've just found this thread. I've just heard about MB ... can anyone point me towards a very simple explanation of what to do? Thanks.

SDaddy007 · 13/09/2017 14:49

Quick question people,

Are you referring each other to sites? Sometimes it's a really quick and easy way to get a free £10, £5, or a free bet to the same value?

It just takes a bit of organising, but as they say, it's free money.

Justchillaxing · 13/09/2017 15:29

I just found the savethestudent guide to MB and have placed my first bet! Football game at 19.45 ... so will be watching with bated breath. I've looked into this before but never really had the courage to try. I hope I've understood everything correctly. I really need to raise a few hundred pounds to be able to have some dental work done for my cat. If I get on ok, my next goal is to raise a few hundred to have some repairs done to my very old car! Fingers crossed!

FreckledLeopard · 13/09/2017 15:53

Justchillaxing - once you take the plunge it gets a lot easier. One thing I'd definitely do is to sign up to Team Profit (free - and join their facebook page too ) and to OddsMonkey (normally you can get first month's membership for £1 with a code from Team Profit). Both sites are invaluable and both have support from around 8am to 9pm which is brilliant for any sudden questions or panics you may have.

Justchillaxing · 13/09/2017 16:38

Thanks, will do!

mogulfield · 14/09/2017 15:24

I'm new to matched betting and need some help! By the way I've read a lot of this thread and it's incredibly helpful so thank you... I was very sceptical but this thread has helped enormously.

I have been using the free guides on odds monkey, and I signed up to the free offers with betfair and Coral. For some reason I don't seem to have been given the free £20 from Coral (even though I did bet the correct amount). Betfair is fine and I have the £30 in my account. What am I likely to have done wrong with Coral?

My second question, is... you know when you have the free bet and you place that bet? You're looking to make a profit, so you don't want the match and lay odds to be exactly the same. Why don't you just do this with all bets, why is it only with the free bets? I know this is a stupid question but I don't know why! Is it you're more likely to lose money and you don't want to do that with your actual money?

Thanks to anyone that can help. I didn't consider myself to be stupid until I tried to learn about matched betting! I hope it's not just me...

Oh and justchillaxing good luck with getting the money for your cat Smile

HeyRoly · 14/09/2017 17:28

How long ago was your Coral bet? Has it settled? What were the minimum odds in order to qualify for the intro offer and did you make sure your back bet wasn't under those odds?

My second question, is... you know when you have the free bet and you place that bet? You're looking to make a profit, so you don't want the match and lay odds to be exactly the same. Why don't you just do this with all bets, why is it only with the free bets?

I don't quite understand the question and think you're getting things muddled (totally understandable, this shit is confusing to begin with Wink). The very principle behind matched betting is that you want your back and lay odds to be the same (or as close as possible) every time, whether it's a free bet or a qualifying bet.

When placing free bets, it's preferable that your bet is at odds of 5 or higher to maximise profit. If you place a free bet at low odds, the profit is much smaller.

Does that help a bit?

ASauvingnonADay · 14/09/2017 17:49

I had the same with my first ever matched bet whccih was with Coral! checked I'd done it right and stupidly didn't contact them

ASauvingnonADay · 14/09/2017 17:51

I almost got caught out this week as placed a bet which wasn't matched. Set an alarm on my phone to ensure I went back a couple of hours before to check if it had been matched and if not to fix it, but got caught up in drama at work and the couldn't access Betfair from work! Thankfully it must have been matched as it was a rather large bet!

baggagereclaim · 14/09/2017 19:13

Hello all!

New to matched betting and think I've made a mistake! I did my qualifying bet with coral but not got the free bet credited to my account. I think it's because the bet said "half time" rather than "win" but I am unsure - it said "win" on the betting slip on coral but "half time" on oddsmatcher.

Anyway this is the only thing I can think as I bet minimum amount above the 1.5 odds.

My question is what do I do now? I can't get a free bet now as it had to be the first bet. Do I just move onto another bookmaker? Also - I credited my account with £10 but only bet £5. Can I get my balance back out?

So annoyed! I thought that was the easy step I followed the tutorials so carefully Angry

HeyRoly · 14/09/2017 19:28

It'a getting to grips with the different markets you can bet on with football, because there's so many. It sounds like the Oddsmatcher directed you to bet on the Half Time market, which is literally just the team winning at half time. It sounds like you actually bet on the Full Time market, which isn't a problem per se, but it probably didn't give you a good match? On which market did you do your lay bet at the exchange?

Anyway, none of that explains why you didn't get your free bet. A bet on the Full Time market would have been sufficient IF it was above the minimum odds?

HeyRoly · 14/09/2017 19:30

Please ignore my garbled nonsense, I meant to say IT'S DIFFICULT GETTING TO GRIPS WITH...

I can't type on an iPhone keyboard to save my life Grin

mogulfield · 14/09/2017 19:35

heyroly thanks for your help! I will contact Coral as it's been 5 days now. It's interesting to see it happened to you too sauvingnon

My next question would be how do you make a profit then if the odds are the same (lay and back), surely they cancel each other out? Thanks for not making me feel stupid by the way!

icclemunchy · 14/09/2017 19:40

Hi all been mbing for a little while now with profit accumulator. Looking to dip into accas now but blimey I can't get my head around them even with the pa tutorials. Anyone got any handy tips?!

baggagereclaim · 14/09/2017 19:45

Thank you Roly.

I'm honestly not sure what I have done wrong but clearly something as no free bet!

I'm actually totally and utterly confused because my Betfair account has also changed. I put £25 credit on the Betfair account and it is currently £29.99?

It also seems to be telling me that I have no current bets (the football I bet on is being played as I type) and no historical bets.

I thought that this was just step one and it would be the simplest step Confused

I also can't work out how to contact Coral there appears to be no email...

I'm not normally completely thick!

What should I do now? Should I try a different bookmakers and just start again?

Thanks!

HeyRoly · 14/09/2017 19:46

How do you make a profit? Well, with your qualifying bets you don't. The key with those is to really minimise your losses - say, less than 50p loss with a £10 back bet.

The profit comes from free bets.

mogulfield · 14/09/2017 19:51

roly I'm sorry to keep asking questions... but how do they not cancel each other out? Do you not match bet to make a profit and bet on something that will actually win?
I'm not usually this thick, I got an A in gcse maths, I have a science degree and a Masters, but this has me stumped 😂
I'm going to blame baby brain (17 weeks pg)...

HeyRoly · 14/09/2017 19:52

Here's an example of a good qualifying bet. Calculator set to NORMAL, back/lay odds both 2, £10.00.

Whether the back or lay bet wins, you're looking at a loss of 26p. But you will have unlocked a free bet.

mogulfield · 14/09/2017 19:53

there with betfair I had to click on the sports bet exchange (or something similar sounding), to see where my current bets were. Not the usual betting screen they show. As you've but down a lay and not a normal back bet.

mogulfield · 14/09/2017 19:54

roly I've got that far, and unlocked the free bet 👍 My question is what do I do with that free bet to maximise profit? Or is it a case of just bet and hope something wins and if it doesn't, so what it was free anyway?

HeyRoly · 14/09/2017 20:03

Ok, free bets.

Calculator set to FREE BET (stake not returned). A good example is odds over 5 (in this case back and lay odds are 7). Again, it's with £10.

HeyRoly · 14/09/2017 20:05

Bollocks! Wrong screenshot!

This is a BAD free bet because the odds are lower than 5. Only £4.87 profit.

mogulfield · 14/09/2017 20:05

Fantastic! Thank you! I don't understand why, but I understand the how and that's enough for now to make money Grin thank you for your patience!

HeyRoly · 14/09/2017 20:05

Here's a GOOD free bet. Odds of 7. £8.20 profit.

Hi, can I just jump in?
I've just opened an account with Betstars and deposited £10. My account was then frozen and I've received an email asking for photos of my passport, utility bill, bank statement and photo of my card. Does this sound right to you?

I haven't got a bank statement as it's all online so I can't do it now anyway.

Thanks for your help
