Roger, I know of people who have reversed their Type 2 Diabetes completely by limiting the carbohydrates that cause spikes in insulin levels.
The obesity/diabetes/NAFLD epidemic began to explode in western countries in the 70's after the new dietary guidelines were introduced in USA (quickly spreading to UK and other countries) which promoted low fat high carb diets to combat heart disease.
Thing is, when you take away the calories from fat sources what do you replace them with? Protein intake didn't change so the only thing was was to increase carbohydrates and make them the major source of food to eat. The food pyramid was created with starches, grains and fruits and carby veggies the major part. Fat was relegated to the tip
.
Even worse, saturated fat (animal fats) was demonised and people were encouraged to vastly reduced their use of, and to use synthetic margarines and highly processed seed oils which the human body does not cope well with.
What I have discovered is that by limiting carbs to vegetables only, eating good proteins and by freely eating saturated fats plus olive oils I have stopped being hungry, stopped needing to snack, stopped getting fatter (in fact got a lot thinner
). It is actually incredible what has happened.
I began this process March 2016 as a severely obese individual with 66% body fat (I was devastated to learn this). I got my usual monthly printout from the supermarket a couple of weeks ago and here is my current stats in the photo. For people who are insulin resistant, low carbing works beautifully.
The NHS won't officially promote it yet, although there are GPs and doctors who do, for example, google Aseem Malhotra, Zoe Harcombe, Rangan Chattergee (Doctor in the House) to name three medics to google.
Sorry to derail thread
. Can't help being somewhat excited about this way of eating, it has changed my life completely and I am a very happy (and slim) lady today.
