So great that John Oliver did that. Hope it spreads far and wide

cozietoesie · 07/11/2016 16:39

Yes indeed. Smile

Didn't the Mitfords' father used to hunt his daughters (using dogs -presumably designer dogs) for shits and giggles?

Wonder if they tried to put the dogs off the scent by smearing themselves with skinny lard? Grin

Toobusytowee · 07/11/2016 20:35

Here's another link for the Oliver video. I think the last one isn't working.

It is mentioned in Eyes' blog here- mlmtheamericandreammadenightmare.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/john-oliver-this-week-tonight-savages.html?m=1

cozietoesie · 07/11/2016 20:57

Redesdale wasn't it? (Goodness knows where I dredged that up from if so.) It sounds like the sort of thing he'd do though.

Skinny lard or no skinny lard! Grin

Twunk · 07/11/2016 22:30

I want to have John Oliver's babies for that! Yay to John!

cozietoesie · 07/11/2016 22:36

'The dog is walking now!' Grin

JaniceBattersby · 07/11/2016 22:43

I've just watched the John Oliver thing. Absolutely superb.

BSintolerant · 07/11/2016 23:24

John Oliver sums up MLM schemes perfectly:

... douchebaggery at a double black diamond level!

Three cheers for common sense. The dog is now walking! 😂😂

BSintolerant · 07/11/2016 23:35

Give your family the lifestyle they deserve, which is frankly not getting caught up in this bullshit!

That's the best quote in the John Oliver video.

Hello folks, I need some help.

I got a feeling that I'm a target of Aloe bot. I live in a small(ish) village and couple of weeks ago met her in a small local event. I knew of her before but this was the first time we were introduced and we spoke.

At the event she gave me a small FL sample and then day later a follow up FB message about the sample and how did I find it (I'd accepted her friend request previously). I didn't reply until about two weeks later, when she sent me an invitation to an on-line event. I accepted (cos I didn't know how to say no!) Now she sent me a completely random FB message withering about how cold it is and did I manage to log on to her on-line event. And also what products I have for christmas as she's interested ( I have my own little business, not any way MLM related). We are not mates at all and I wasn't overly friendly with her when we met. Please tell me how to politely put boundaries up?? I know she's grooming me, right? I do not want any dealings with FL but it's a small place and she knows a lot of people.

BSintolerant · 08/11/2016 20:04

Tell her you're a Timeless Vie distributor and you're not allowed to join any other MLM schemes or you'll be disparslaiied.

You could try a polite 'no thanks' but that probably won't work because no doesn't mean no, it just means 'not yet' in botspeak.

How long has she been on the aloe game?

Spongebobette · 08/11/2016 20:09

She'll try a bit of 'scratch my back'; offer to buy from you in return for you buying/ coming to an amazing business presentation evening. Or suggest a joint event so she gets to pitch to all your friends

Oh dear.

I think you just have to be polite but firm and say please don't ask me to buy or get involved as I don't do MLMs

Helipad · 08/11/2016 20:42

Thank you BSIntolerant and Spongebobette. That's what I'm afraid of, if she buys something from me then expects that I'll return the favour. Arghh, I would normally just ignore but I will see here out and about so I need to reply something.

She's been in FL game maybe two years? So many people in my village are doing it, FL that is. I do not understand how they make any money. I can name at least eight distributors within half a mile from my house. And they all have their kids in the same school as mine. I must look like fresh blood as I haven't engaged with them before.

Aargh, I just don't want her to buy anything from me. I rue the day I went to that event. Mind you, I didn't know that FL distributor would be there until it was too late.

CantstandmLMs · 08/11/2016 21:27

Just watched this video (shared by a Younique bot but she's also on the tea MLM now) www.facebook.com/sarah.carroll.902266/videos/10154349878278241/

Not once (I did skim a bit) is the company mentioned just the fact that thousands have been made in days and she sits at home or in the salon making money and you can do the same if you contact the people who have shared the video and get invited and "mentored" in their group Hmm

cozietoesie · 08/11/2016 22:04

You could do worse, Heli, than actually reading Timeless Vie and Botwatchblog. It's a genuinely difficult social situation for you because your every instinct will be to react to her as you would to another acquaintance - just remember that she'll likely trade on that. You're not a person to her anymore, I fear. You're a 'mark'.

acatcalledjohn · 08/11/2016 23:09

Heli, in my eyes there are two things you could try:

  1. I am allergic to Aloe (or one of the other ingredients) unlikely to work
  2. I cannot afford (or justify) to spend this much on creams and potions.

But you are right, she is grooming you.

cozietoesie · 08/11/2016 23:19

I'd actually refer her to Timeless Vie or Botwatch. Smile Maybe have something from them printed out if you have a printer.

Your acquaintance's 'script' - and they do have them - will contain answers to all the standard social excuses, I fear. A reference as above - maybe even going on the offensive by sending her a link if you're in contact in that way - would nail your colours to the mast for her. (You'll be a 'hater' - a real negative type - but you'll stand a chance of being dropped as a prospect.) Smile

Toobusytowee · 08/11/2016 23:56

Heli, what you need to do is not look at the situation with your normal eyes. Don't succumb to normal social rules. This is not a genuine friendship and she just sees you as someone to make money off. Normal fobbing off and hinting will not work as these social niceties mean nothing to her. She is a bot now and is following her programming.

Do not give excuses or reasons for your refusals. Make sure you do refuse everything. Just say 'no thanks'. If you say you can't afford it, she'll come up with a payment plan or try to sign you up. Any excuse you come up with, she'll follow up with her scripts.

As they used to say years ago - 'Just say no'. She will be used to refusals and will be expecting it.

Do not under any circumstances help her at all. Do not host a party, don't buy a lip balm, don't take a leaflet or a PUPP box.

cozietoesie · 09/11/2016 00:06

Absolutely. No help whatsoever. You're not a person to her in this process so she's forfeited being treated as one. 'Civil but firmly No' is your watchword.

Babblehag · 09/11/2016 07:46

As above, she will convince you that the sky is pink, one of my friends said that she was "not interested in buying or selling that shit, dont talk to me about it." in my fl days. I think she saw it for what it was. She was the one that I didnt bug again, because she scared me a bit.

Spongebobette · 09/11/2016 09:45

Just wondering Babble what did you think when she said that? Did you put her in the haterz and negheads box and not think about it?

Spongebobette · 09/11/2016 09:56

Urgh just watched that vid cantstand

Worra loada rubbish.
