The MLM business model is exploitative by its very nature. Though it seems like an inexpensive way to get into business there are a number of inherent issues:
Firstly, they are all pyramid schemes with Byzantium-systems of reward and compensation that are always based on recruiting. Sales alone will make you minimal money, if at all.
99% of those that sign up lose money or make nothing. Many end up buying the products themselves in order to keep their status in the pyramid.
By necessity therefore you have to spend your entire life recruiting or selling. You are encouraged to approach everyone you know, and many people you don't because the money flows upwards to the top of this pyramid.
Owing to the oversupply of products and the lack of customers (there are I think 9000 Boots in the country selling a wide range of products and services, I think there are 30k+ people so far recruited to Forever Living alone) many of the products are sold on eBay for a percentage of the rrp. The markets are completely saturated with overpriced crap no one wants.
We have had a LOT of complaints about bullying, preferential treatment and harassment by the top bots.
In fact the culture is more like a "cult" - with brainwashing "training" and "success" days (that cost the bots money) that parade a bunch of "top bots" to "encourage" sales and recruitment.
To make any money at all bots have to spend many hours a week working, networking and selling - to make money well below the minimum wage. So even if they make £600 in a month in "bonuses" from that you have to take expenses - samples, delivery, petrol, website fees, personal use products, plus stuff you've bough to maintain your status.
Being constantly on the lookout for customers and victims recruits is exhausting and depressing. Friends avoid you, which gets you drawn in deeper with your "friends" in your MLM. This makes it even harder to leave.
