Glossary:

Bots: our affectionate name for victims of the MLM racket

MLM: Multi-level Marketing schemes - essentially pyramid schemes that are just legal because you sell a product. Reliant upon constant recruitment despite there not being enough people in the world to go beyond about 12 levels if everyone recruited 6.

Downline/Upline: the people you recruited and those who recruited you (going up and down the pyramid inverted funnel)

Timeless Vie: Parody of MLM schemes (though you might spot one in particular) that also carries out fearless investigative work

Hommetrepreneur: also excellent parody site focussing on the menz

BotWatch: Rather more serious, keeps an eye on what the Bots are claiming next, particularly in reference to health and income claims. Also fearless.

Inverted Funnel: Timeless Vie is NOT a pyramid - it's an inverted Funnel, OK?

Eyes: Our former member Eyespying who knows LOTS about MLM schemes. He's still our very own #manhun.

In terms of hashtag, last I understand your point.
I'm wondering if MLM is the right term at all to use though, how many people who are targets for FL, Younique etc actually know the term? (I'm not sure I did before these threads )
So maybe something more like

#scamalert

I appreciate the point, Bovny, but it's the term they use themselves - along with Direct Marketing, Network Marketing etc etc. I reckon it's better to keep on with it so that any use of the words causes a raised eyebrow at the least.

I would use something along the lines of #workfromhome or as close to that. Think about what people search.

Good point Last, about bots hijacking the hashtag. #JustSayNoToMLM works well I think.

I think if we use scam or pyramid in the hashtag we could get bots agreeing and saying to go to them because their MLM isn't a scam or pyramid.

Actually, what's just occurred to me - do MLMs do 'seasonal themes' at all? I don't really recall seeing any but I would be surprised if they'd missed that trick.

Body Shop makes a huge chunk of its income around Christmas time. I hosted a party once in November. Realised afterwards I had pressured all my friends into buying stuff so I could get host rewards. Not a nice feeling!

I think some bots jump on the new year bandwagon too, I noticed a surge in clean 9 detox type posts in January. Now it's 'get your body beach ready'. With a wrap clingfilm thing. Yeh I don't think so!

Now I won't hear a word against having lots of Xmas puddings. They keep for absolutely ages and a slice or two cooks great stuff in the microwave for a quick pud with a slather of cream.
