I've resisted the urge to comment as I'm pretty sure that I couldn't without ranting.

Don't know Clarins - I have always supported my friends when they have baked cakes for a fete, bought raffle tickets for their son's or daughter's Junior teams or clubs - parties to try goods or products - and generally bought stuff I don't really need but still I showed my support. Nobody made me part with cash - put any guns to my head and in some cases were presents or gifts for others that I knew would benefit from the products....

throwingpebbles · 15/03/2016 16:58

Ffs! I have friends with real businesses they own- art dealer, jewellery designer, freelance beauty therapist, etc etc. MLM money isn't "supporting a local business". Ridiculous!

throwingpebbles · 15/03/2016 16:58

(Caveat - unless you live in Utah I guess...)

NorbertDentressangle · 15/03/2016 17:02

I feel harassed ....by the unsolicited bot posts and ads on my fb page.

Most of them aren't even my friends, they are friends of friends with open, public profiles for maximum coverage.

If only AdBlock dealt with them too.

stopfaffing · 15/03/2016 17:04

Have you seen thowing's post at 9 minutes past 3 today, cubic. Clarifies a few things nicely.

workingwithchimps · 15/03/2016 17:04

Somebody bought some product from me today from my "business" - they are not especially friends as such but wanted to pay none the less...

clarinsgirl · 15/03/2016 17:05

I completely endorsed supporting local independent businesses. I get very angry at mlm bots claiming that their businesses are independent or local, they are neither. Also, when you buy cakes from your friends business you are genuinely supporting their business (rather than lining the pockets are a rich Mormon) and your baking friend is very unlikely to try to persuade you to part with 200 quid so that you too can live the dream!

clarins thats so annoying They are not small independent businesses! Why do they insist on calling themselves that, they are buying shite products at above market retail pricing levels and reselling at their own cost. To mask a mormon pyramid scheme.... 😡There are not enough rolly eyes for this but gonna stick one here anyway...! 🙄

Clarins - I understand your view and I do get how you feel - but however it's sliced - I still run a "business", maybe you don't want to call it that - but that to Her Majesty's Government is what I do - after all - my substantial tax or VAT payments have never been returned - citing that I am involved in anything illegal - or that I am committing fraud or involved in a fraudulent scheme where I am getting ill-gotten gains immorally. I know that if I was involved in anything like that I am sure that I would be clamped down upon - no matter how sanitised I made it look.....

ambler21 · 15/03/2016 17:17

I wouldn't support any friends business that I disagreed with on principle or quality of product. I have a friend who works for a group of lobbyists and we regularly argue about how much I disagree with the industry. I would not support his business in any way shape or form. I would however walk to the ends of the earth to help in any other part of his life.

As eyes has said on a few occasions, true friends tell each other the truth no matter how difficult.

Bearbehind · 15/03/2016 17:18

These threads are generally superb and a real eye opener but all the 'cheese' stuff is making it very cliquey and detracting from the awareness you guys are raising.

When fay popped up the thread went 'cheese crazy' Hmm

You can disect arguments from people like her so much more effectively than resorting to closing ranks over cheese!

clarinsgirl · 15/03/2016 17:21

Yes Chimps, what you do is considered a business but it's not local (it's part of a multi-national), it's not independent (it's owned by afore mentioned rich Mormon). My issue is that it is very disingenuous to claim that mlm is a local independent business.

It's one of the many, many lies told to propagate these scams.

Point taken bear. I agree, there have been some very cogent arguments from various when bots have posted previously, and it has been very illuminating. Not least to see their scripted responses and their failure to ever reply to some very fundamental questions.

I like a bit of cheese talk, especially when attempts to derail the thread are happening
Talking about cheese is inclusive

If a bot every came on this thread, what questions would be want answered?

I'll start us off. Have you read through the timelessvie.wordpress.com/ website yet?

workingwithchimps · 15/03/2016 17:43

Cubic - I deal in product - I distribute product - no different than a reseller of say cheese, computers, cars, a saleable product - that is why I am a business. Retailing product means to buy from Manufacturer to sell to end user - another example of this is Boots the Chemist - though they own or rebrand some products as their own - whether they make it - I don't know but it's theirs
