Another great danger is to over-react and drive a non-core cult-adherent deeper into his/her group's intellectual bunker, to the point where he/she becomes a severe and inflexible believer.

Cult adherents are taught to expect hostile reactions, so it's best to react in supportive, but challenging way, which they are not expecting.

BSintolerant · 12/02/2016 18:45

Eye Yes, exactly. So, how can we react in a supportive but challenging way? How might such a conversation go?

Eyespying · 12/02/2016 18:53

BSintolerant The most experienced cult cousellors agree that you must never give up trying to get your loved-ones back.

One of the things which I have found completely stumps 'MLM' adherents and can make them stop and think, is if look them directly in the eye, and tell them that its only the people who really care about you who always tell you the truth, no matter how painful this might be - and it's your enemies who tell you ego-building lies.

lastuseraccount123 · 12/02/2016 18:58

it's worth a try anyway

One of my bots has just posted an AMAZING offer for ONLY 5 people to do the C9 at an AMAZING reduced price - first come first served as demand will be high (though the only interest so far is a like from a fellow bot).

She's also recently posted that she'll be doing the C9 again in March, having just done it in January. Can someone do the maths for me please? Does 6 x C9 = 4CC? She's doing five months to manager so I guess the recruiting's really not going well if she needs to get her CCs from selling products instead.

Eyespying · 12/02/2016 19:03

Cult cousellors also agree that you should try to control the subject of any conversation with cult adherents. Don't let them take control or become defensive. Talk about anything except their group and try and take cult adherents back in their minds to a time when they weren't controlled. The best idea is always to try to get adherents to step outside of their 'negative vs positive' delusion and look at themselves.

Doesn't that depend on how strong you're feeling though, eye ? (And people simply may not feel of great purpose in certain relationships or with certain other people. ) Isn't there also a place for simply not engaging with some of them? Directly that is.

BSintolerant · 12/02/2016 19:28

That sounds like good advice, Eye.

It's interesting what you said about taking cult adherents back to a time when they weren't controlled. One of the things which made me think FL was cultish was this horrible feeling of unease and anxiety which overtook me, I couldn't figure out why I felt so awful. It seemed irrational.

I remember thinking to myself, "When was the last time I felt like this?" and realised it was a few years ago. I'd got a professional job, with a small, well-established company, which I thought was going to be wonderful until the managers showed their true colours by trying to control everything I did - including the clothes and perfume I wore. They told me from day one that I wouldn't have much of a home life - my loyalties were with their company from now on if I wanted to be promoted. I also quickly discovered that they'd lied to me about the type of work they did, purely to recruit me. They had a very slick PR machine. I quit within a week and told my astonished friends and family what was going on - more than one of them said it sounded like I'd escaped from a cult.

Karma is a wonderful thing because the company found itself in financial trouble and had to be wound up. None of the managers are in full-time employment. Maybe they'd like to sell parslai for a living!

You make selling parslai sound like a positive punishment BS. Have a thought for those for whom it means so much that they'll be changing their hair colour to do the work!Grin

Mootpointer · 12/02/2016 19:35

penguins It's really worrying that the some bots are doing C9 bi monthly Confused - likely to boost their CCs. Twice a year at the most is recommended.

BSintolerant · 12/02/2016 19:36

Cozie Changing their hair colour? I wonder if the cuffs will match the collar? Wink

cozietoesie - You are right, but it also depends on the health and strength of individual friends and relatives. There are some cult adherents who should be avoided like the plague, because they are so draining and destructive. One very experienced cult cousellor, whose opinion I respect as highly as that of anyone, used to say to friends and relatives who were absolutely exhausted and depressed, that there comes a point where you have to start thinking about yourself. That said, the same person spent 20 years getting her own daughter back from 'Scientology,' but she is/was exceptionally strong psychologically and physically.

WhirlwindHugs · 12/02/2016 19:48

There is a local woman who appears to be doing really well with juice plus. I say appears, because obviously it's not that likely that she is making any money! However, she is getting a LOT of likes on her posts, having gone very gung ho about the exercise regimes she's doing with it - I think she's one of those people who genuinely have the pr and selling knack.

I guess at somepoint it will all come crumbling down, which is sad, but I reckon there's feck all point trying to tell her or anyone who is supporting her that it's a crock of shit atm.

If you get someone at the beginning who isn't getting any likes on their posts I reckon it's worth a gentle "...if this doesn't work out it's not your fault, the way your company works 99% of people don't make any money."

cozietoesie · 12/02/2016 19:52

Feeling sad or sorry for people is fatal, I've found. It's such a strong emotion that you can be overpowered by it - and they likely won't feel at all sad for you.
