I'm in a bit of a dilemma! I have a good friend who months ago looked like she had set up her own wee beauty business. I really like this girl and she's struggled in the past so I liked her business page on facebook.
It started off all very innocent she was just selling some beauty products (I even bought some!). I read the previous threads and alarm bells started ringing. But it was all very subtle so I thought maybe it was a legitimate business. Well then the new car posts and holiday posts started coming. Then she was recruiting to her team and now she is peddling green tea capsules that cure everything under the sun. So it started subtle then built up to being a full blown mlm! Now the dilemma is I have tried to hide posts (I did this with the juice plus bot) but as she posts from her personal page to her business I still see it on my newsfeed. I'm going to have to delete the page aren't i?

Stopfaffing has asked me to post my eulogy which also appears on the thread In Memory of all those we have lost to MLMS.

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am a bot, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand pounds you've blown.
I am the diamonds you don't really own.
I am the the liar, who makes things up.
I am the pest with the big box of PUPP.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of noisy eagles in circled flight.
I am the castle you don't own outright.
Do not stand at my grave and mourn;
I'm in Arizona haunting Rex Maughan. Wink

Fair enough, I don't think this thread is the right place for me then.

Did a little search and found this: www.foulentertainment.com/blogs/peer-amid-the-mistruth-the-lies-of-pyramid-schemes
Not telling us anything we don't already know, but at least someone else is getting the MLM reality out there. Warning: Not at all PC and some may find the language a tad fruity. Keep up the good work everyone! #Parslai all round :)

lastuseraccount123 · 12/02/2016 16:33

I don't agree whoknows we need all types on here, including people who think TV are a bunch of idiots.

So, stay, please. Grin

notabot the only thing I don't like about that is how they think they are too smart to fall for an MLM. We know that's not true - anyone can get sucked in if the timing's right

Love, so good of them to provide lunch and drinks. They really act like they are doing everyone a favour, #Tossers.

clarinsgirl · 12/02/2016 16:49

One thing I could really do with is some tips of how best to tackle bots with a view to helping them to get out. I tend to challenge facts and try not to use the word fuckers very much but I always get blocked and deleted. Did get a pm from a senior manager bot this week asking me to stop (and also trying to recruit me Hmm), my response caused her to block me too.

I realise that the brainwashed cannot be easily reached but surely we could develop some strategies?

lastuseraccount123 · 12/02/2016 16:54

#tossers + 1

clarins once they are firmly ensconced in the cult it's hard to budge them. I think keeping the pressure on by watching them, writing about them, laughing at them (when needed) is the only way unfortunately.

but i'm all ears if anyone else has another idea.

I know Annie the worst thing is that people are falling for this, people signing up who I know are skint..and they have to find accommodation too...they can shove their "generous" 5 month payment plan up their arses! Grin

throwingpebbles · 12/02/2016 17:02

Hear hear last I agree we need both approaches, working together and cross referring to each other.

Wondering whether the feminist board would be interested in that thesis? I think this is a big angle to highlight.

lastuseraccount123 · 12/02/2016 17:05

yes, agreed. it's a feminist issue.

Today's FL motivation... My ariix bots having a pushy day too... Such joy.

I about to take a few days off, paid, from my job. Wonder if they will be doing the same?

lastuser your TV promotion is colourist, I don't see any opportunity for us with more than a smattering of grey. We really are bottom of the pile bots aren't we....

Eyespying · 12/02/2016 17:44

Over the years, I found that the more you know about how cults function: the greater your chances are of reasoning with cult adherents.

When I was trying to reason with 'MLM' Bots in my family, I made the mistake of under-estimating the power of cult phenomenon and not studying more deeply.

At the risk of stating the obvious, core-cult adherents are persons who have mistaken fiction for fact and who have become completely controlled by that fiction to extent that they will literally transform into different people.

However, one of the great paradox of cults, is that all controlled cult core-adherents are completely certain that they are not cult adherents and that they are not being controlled. In fact, they are often convinced that anyone trying to explain to them they are controlled by lies, are the ones who are controlled by lies.

Woodhill · 12/02/2016 17:54

It's very hard to know what to say to people we know and love with regard to the cult aspects of MLM schemes because most level-headed people would think we were absolutely bonkers for comparing MLM schemes with cults. It really is the perfect crime.

I remember watching a success day video where Bob Parker made a joke about people who think FL is a cult. There's many a true word spoken in jest isn't there? Smile

Is the best way forward to let our friends get on with it and hope that eventually they will figure out that they're being conned?

I feel awful that I haven't got the guts to have a conversation with my friend about this. I don't want her to think I'm being unsupportive, or unkind. Will she turn against me when she eventually realises she's been had, and I've known exactly how these schemes operate all along? What a bloody mess. Sad

lastuseraccount123 · 12/02/2016 18:14

exactly. we're in a double-bind here.

all we can do is keep trying.
