cozietoesie I am thoroughly ashamed of my brother, but I have boundless respect for the MN members who have come forward and told the truth. I'd like to give them all a big hug and a thank-you. I had to go through a similar process myself when I wrote the account of what my brother and his 'Amway' handlers did to me, and I know how painful admitting you were tricked, can be.

There are plenty of ex-'MLM' adherents who will never face the truth. My brother being a classic example. He was a cowardly-bully and narcissistic personality, prior to his entering 'Amway.' He was, in many respects, the perfect target for a cult, because the cult gave him a false-justification to abuse people.

Rather than tell the truth, my brother once claimed in a reality-inverting written statement to a French court that he was never involved in 'Amway,' but he believed that I was.

I think my brother has told the same lies so often, that he now believes them to be the truth.

Fortunately, I retain a copy of Amagram magazine with my brother's photo in it and my Blog speaks for itself.

Kathysclown

Good to know. I have to say I'm dreading losing a close friend to an MLM, and considering the sudden massive popularity of Jamberry within my circle I'm going to share a few TV articles, I think.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 12/02/2016 10:30

Could I just say that I've been lurking on here for a few weeks and peeked at TV from time to time but there is no way I'm going to "like" it, despite being in agreement with its aims. I know it's meant to be a spoof, but I think it seriously undermines the great work you are doing on here by making a joke of it all. I would hate my friends to get a glimpse of it on my wall and mistakenly think I was sharing MLM stuff. If there was a serious FB page I'd happily join, but TV is definitely not for me.

dreich · 12/02/2016 11:18

Sounds like the Timeless Vie blog is more up your street then WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es timelessvie.wordpress.com/

Have a look at the serious stuff on there and follow the links on the left side of the blog to get into the really detailed and totally scarily stuff there.

It's a bit better, but I find the whole spoof MLM thing is the problem, it really doesn't work for me. I can see that it is a lighthearted way to get the message about the dangers of MLMs out to a wider audience, but it just muddies the waters for me.

cozietoesie · 12/02/2016 11:30

I suspect that there are few posters who like everything that's posted or linked to here, Who.

And Thank Goodness for that. We're in possession of critical faculties and are allowed to disagree with each other. Smile

cozietoesie · 12/02/2016 11:31

A sadness for you nonetheless, Eye.

FLhahaha · 12/02/2016 11:37

who maybe the Botwatch page (2nd link) is more what you are looking for?
cubic you were asking about land registery searches. The public can search for £3, so it is not expensive if you want to know something specific. I am not familiar with it though so I don't know how quickly it is updated - I think you would need to wait a few months after, say, a bot moved, to see whether it had been sold. And mortgages are tricky too - a second charge may flag up debt problems, for example, but the existence of a mortgage may only mean there is a few pounds on it so the bank can still hold the deeds (I think).

Companies house is free to search, and now shows more info, so for example it will show the name and address of officers of the company, and also you can click on their name to see other companies they are officers of.

throwingpebbles · 12/02/2016 11:47

who the bot watch Facebook page is here

Eyespying · 12/02/2016 12:16

cozietoesie The weirdest thing in all of this, is the fact that my family effectively vanished almost without trace down the 'Amway' rabbit hole. My mother and father were only children and although I they had some cousins, I only knew one of my mother's cousins (an accountant) at the time I was still in contact with her and my Ambot brother. When I asked for this guy's help to reason with my mother, he told me to get lost, and that 'Amway' was legal. My brother had already identified this cousin as a potential danger, so he'd approached him and poisoned his mind by convincing him that I had invented an outrageous lie about his 'business' being a fraud and a cult, to take control of my family's money.

Toobusytowee · 12/02/2016 12:18

Whoknows, I set up Botwatch to be a depository of factual links that have been brought up here. I challenge bots claims sometimes and have had some success in having health claims removed.

I am currently working on a post to explain to current bots the truth of MLMs in a non-threatening and factual way, in the hope that maybe people can share on their walls and bots can have access to it. I was really proud of the little article but Facebook won't allow more than one hyperlink. I have had to set up a blog to make the article there so I can then link to it! It's taking me a while and I am having to do it around my J.O.B and family commitments. I am hoping to have it up tonight or tomorrow. Watch this space!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 12/02/2016 12:32

I'll take a look, thanks. Sorry, didn't mean to barge in and start criticising, I've been lurking for a while, keep up the good work.

Ooooh, you're good, Cubic. Wink

stopfaffing · 12/02/2016 12:54

This is our seventh continuous thread, who, and over the months as we have gathered more and more knowledge and evidence about MLMs and how dangerous this business model is, we have wondered how to bring it into the open and show others the reality, rather than people blaming themselves when they lose money, friends and confidence despite trying their best to "duplicate" the MLM model for success. The fb pages and rhe mock Web pages are our way to highlight the truth. They may not be perfect but they show our commitment to bringing out the truth to everyone we can. We have made a difference, various bots are reading our stuff and having to change their worst behaviours as a consequence. It's early days yet, but we are determined to keep going trying to make a difference, prevent more people from being sucked in exploited. Please stick around and give us your take, suggestions, stories, and help.

It's the 'people blaming themselves' that particularly gets to me. Tired, vulnerable souls who fail because there's no way for them to succeed and then keep quiet about it because they're 'embarrassed' or 'ashamed' - of their own actions! I'm so grateful to the people who escaped and have come on this board to talk about it.

Is it the 'lifestyle' though or the seeming clarity that draws people do you think? There's something awfully attractive about positivity when you're lonely and uncertain.

cozietoesie · 12/02/2016 13:18

X post.

R0nJ0n · 12/02/2016 13:20

Cubic that's some sneaky stuff there, how do people bring themselves to be so disingenuous?

The rise of social media has really been a catalyst for the growth of mlms hasn't it? Before bots could only try to recruit the people they actually knew in rl, now they can spread their nets far and wide, it's hardly surprising everyone seems to have at least one bot popping up on their FB feed.
