Dear god the screenshot at the top of the TV blog! I missed it at first but wtf!! That person is using this as an actual advert to encourage people to join their team! Just shows how warped your judgement can become after a while in an MLM. No one outside is going to think working while in hospital having a baby is good but they obviously think it's a huge selling point!

sminkypink · 17/02/2016 18:16

'And here she is having a ceasarean but isn't it incredible that she can still work her business from the operating theatre?' #bossbabe #childbirthingopportunity

It's disturbing isn't it?

stopfaffing · 17/02/2016 18:20

Just read and posted a response to the TV article. Very upsetting to see that photo and read the accompanying blurb. FFS, this new mum should be concentrating on her new baby, not worrying about downlines and making CCs. Angry

Reminds me of a lady talking on a youtube video about working while in labour/driving to meetings four days after a c.section.

Really, really worrying behaviour. I mean, to be 'motivated' to behave like that right after an operation (because make no mistake, that is exactly what it is) shows questionable judgement from everyone concerned and it is not necessary in normal business conditions. MLM companies are anything but normal though, not like real businesses. Upsetting.

Well done timeless vie great blog post.
Big thanks to the ex bot for peeling back the layers - showing enormous strength.

fastdaytears · 17/02/2016 19:07

Really powerful from ex-bot Flowers

stopfaffing · 17/02/2016 19:27

Just reading the Bot Watch fb page and yesterday they posted two images; one from First Steps to Manager saying the products can help health problems. The second from their policy book saying it is illegal to make health claims.

Then Bot Watch gets a message from an FL bot denying that the first image was from First Steps to Manager. She then presumably checks the book because the comment is deleted! Result Grin. It must be embarrassing to be caught lying... better get used to it guys.

Toobusytowee · 17/02/2016 19:28

Well done ex-bot and TV, very well written and evocative.

darceybussell · 17/02/2016 19:44

Stopfaffing - that's a naive thing of them to do, because there is no way that it's going to end well - even if they are right and it's not from the FL books they are basically saying 'you're wrong, FL says we can make as many bogus health claims as we like!'

Eyespying · 17/02/2016 19:48

They might be illegal, but 'FLP' medical/health claims seem to be everywhere.

A different MLM, but here's a classic example of exactly the kind of methods the wonderful ex-bot described so powerfully.

Makes me beyond furious. And it clearly really is a feminist issue too

Nb. Classic sharpie eyebrows too of course #proud

I contacted the MHRA to ask if Juiceplus, Herbalife or Itworks have licences to sell medications because I was concerned about health claims being made about these companies. I didn't mention FL because we already know they don't have a licence.

They got back to me today. They have me a link to a database where you can check if a company has the relevant paper work. These companies don't.

They gave me an email address where we can report bogus claims made by bots. They have a department that investigates these things. A very serious, very powerful department.

I'll give the address to anyone that needs to report anything.

I'll report someone now who has been making many, many claims and refusing to take them down. I'll report back...

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 17/02/2016 20:06

The problem is that, as with everything else in MLM world, it's the bots that end up screwed and the company that profits off them gets away with it entirely.

FL and JP will just claim that it's a rogue independent bot and not their fault at all. That is the beauty of the system; it's always the bots that end up screwed, every time.

So yes, the bots should absolutely not be claiming that buying a bottle of gunk will cure your incurable disease, or that buying an overpriced cloth will prevent you from getting cancer, but they aren't getting this shite from nowhere. And it really is the people at the top who should be held to account.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 17/02/2016 20:09

Jamicure sounds like what might happen to someone who is pissing around on MN and then discovers that their toddler has used the jam from breakfast to paint their toenails.

This marvellous advert for 'MLM' just came in today. It's the tragicomic story of a 64 year old American woman who defrauded friends and relatives (including a Church Pastor) out of approximately half a million dollars, and then dumped a significant percentage of this money in various 'MLM' rackets.

The bit that made me laugh was the inane quote from the woman's attorney, who said she was 'a prudent thief who did not gamble the funds she misappropriated, or squander them...'

I've just seen an ITworks bot posting in a dog group on Facebook saying how it gives her more time to be with her dog... I've seen it all now!

dreich · 17/02/2016 20:51

I think that's a very good point, downlines need to be really careful to not get themselves shafted by their uplines by posting unproved health facts.

That said I do think we should continue to report officially to places like MHRA fake claims that we see to help get the message across that lies won't be tolerated.

A big thank you to the ex bot on Tv for being so brave and telling us your story. Smile

Toobusytowee · 17/02/2016 21:19

Yes, you are all right of course about it being the little bots who are ignorant and trapped into making false claims. I wouldn't report every claim I saw, that would be unfair on everyone. I was thinking of using the reporting system to get the prolific health claimers who have been ignoring warnings about their posts. And where the MLM company themselves haven't done anything about it.

We need somewhere official to go, and a threat to have, for the bots who are blatantly breaking the law. And getting away with it again and again.

BSintolerant · 17/02/2016 21:35

motorheadmum you might think you've seen it all. I fear you'll really have seen it all (with knobs on) when doggers stop meeting at their usual car park or lay-by for fear of being harassed by desperate bots pretending to be dogging in the hope of recruiting, or flogging a few cloths or some aloe gelly. Maybe the really kinky ones will combine all of the gelly with a bogbrush to liven things up a bit.

It's only a matter of time. 😉
