lastuseraccount123, Le-Vel is suing me in Texas.

Toobusytowee, Yes, they risk the truth coming out in a lawsuit, but it would be very expensive for me to take it that far... unless you know a lawyer in Texas willing to work for free. If you do, I'd appreciate you making a connection.

Eyespying, Yes, lots of SLAPPing and anti-SLAPPing is likely to go on.

Toobusytowee · 16/02/2016 01:38

I'm sorry Lazyman, I don't know a single person in Texas. The only lawyer I know is a barrister in New Zealand so not much use to you.

Have you thought of setting up a crowd funding page to raise a bit of cash for the cause?

lastuseraccount123 · 16/02/2016 02:22

lazy it seems like we should all join forces and create a legal defense fund. something like Bloggers Sans FrontieresGrin I"m kinda serious - us, Eyes, bot watch and there's loads of other bloggers out there trying to bring attention to MLMs. seems like we should get together

Toobusytowee, yes, I drafted a GoFundMe page, but I want to make it perfect before I launch.

lastuseraccount123, I like the sound of that idea.

Why do they assume those of us with J.O.B.s are all only making enough money to pay the bills and we are all just scraping by? Some jobs pay very well.

throwingpebbles · 16/02/2016 08:09

Good plan last

Quite darcey and i might have a dreaded "boss" but they completely accept that my family come first and so I can work flexibly and always take time off if they are ill etc. Plus I actually love my job and it involves actually helping people not scamming money off them...

xenu1 · 16/02/2016 08:45

Sneering at the Just.Over.Brokes: of course it's to keep you in the MLM cult; to make sure you despise the real world and live in the fantasy...

WonderousStories · 16/02/2016 08:51

I am self employed - actually I live the bots 'dream'

I work flexibly round my family
I only work three to four days a week
I have no boss
I earn good money
I have a lovely house ( which I actually own so one up on the bots)
I have a car ( ok it's not posh but ostentatiousness is not my thing)
I go on foreign holidays
I eat at some fab restaurants

I am not a bling type of person - I have a handbag but it is purely to stick my stuff in. I wear shoes to keep my feet warm. But I do have a fab allotment and a very fast motorbike so I am not without stuff

All this and I don't scam folk - and it is not fucking faked!

xenu1 · 16/02/2016 09:01

wrt lazymanandmoney and the law (long: not very lighthearted :)) . I have some vicarious experience of $cn litigation. (LRH, 1955 "The purpose of the suit is to harass and discourage rather than to win. The law can be used easily to harass,". My 2p

  1. don't crucify yourself. If it gets expensive, fold politely. There are many others (us!) who will take up the cudgels. the internet is great for that!
  2. link to those who have already won. I can recommend Dave Touretzky's site ("Amway Sucks": www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Amway/index.html )
  3. Also - useful to anyone involved in legal matters, inc. divorces! - check Dr Touretzky's analysis and reply to a threatening legal letter from $cn attorneys at: www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/NOTs/ His analysis of Mr. Milgrim's letter suggests that CoS has no case, and they know it. Its hilarious IMO. His "official" reply is also brilliant: clear, calm, respectful and firm. A lot of legal letters are designed to wind you up: take a deep breath and don't rise to the bait
xenu1 · 16/02/2016 09:17

Sorry to clutter-up the thread. The Amway-critical portion of Dr Touretsky's site also has responses to legal threats from MLM lawyers. "29/00 News Flash: one of Amway's legal whores, Timothy Q. Delaney, sent me a threatening letter in regard to my AUS mirror. It's not a bad job, really, considering that Amway has no legal grounds and can only blow smoke. But it did not intimidate me in the slightest. Sorry, Timmy. The mirror is not coming down."

And there's link to a leaked 1983(!) document showing that even then Amway were concerned that the "system" tools-tapes-and-seminars biz was a big-pin pyramid scam!
www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Amway/postma-memo-1983.html

Enough from me today :)

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 16/02/2016 11:18

I'm pretty sure that being just over broke is way better than actually being broke and in debt (which is what'll happen if you sign up to an MLM).

And, yes, it is weird to assume that job = badly paid. I'm pretty well compensated in my job (and I have flexibility and a pension scheme and such like). There's also promotion possibilities and training that I don't have to pay for. Not all jobs are crap.

darceybussell · 16/02/2016 11:24

Shirtless guy in Eyes' Le Vel video said that there are only two options in life other than an MLM, have a badly paid job in the '9-5 grind' or spend loads of money setting up a business 'like a restaurant'. What a very strange view of the world.

lazymanandmoney · 16/02/2016 11:26

This is actually the third time I've been through this. The first time I politely folded after a two-year legal fight.

Between the three, I've had 20 lawyers tell me that I didn't do anything wrong and they wouldn't have done anything differently themselves.

So I'm not crucifying myself. If I had a small fraction of Bill Ackman's money, this would be a joyous occasion.

I think the other two companies (one MLM, one not MLM) were emboldened to get their search results removed through lawsuits too.

There are certain things I don't want to talk about in public as I don't need to give them my playbook.

sminkypink · 16/02/2016 11:52

darcybussel they do paint a grim and very simplistic picture don't they?
Lazymanandmoney I wonder what Google would say to this. They loathe having their searches manipulated like this. If theres enough evidence of manipulation then they will blacklist. All those fake 'is a pyramid scheme videos,' that the bots are encouraged to make and post may well have the opposite effect to intended.

rayofhope · 16/02/2016 13:09

They all sing from the same hymn sheet don't they? It Works person popped up in a group, how amazing her team is and how she loves what she does.......

SuffolkNWhat · 16/02/2016 14:23

I'll be amazed if Jamberry takes off here as the nail art world is saturated anyway and wraps are very cheap to get/use, the majority of us who use/have used wraps can get a full set for under £1 so there is little chance of Jamberry prices being tolerated.

lazymanandmoney · 16/02/2016 14:28

sminkypink,

I'm sure that Google wouldn't look it. Generally it seems to like my articles. If you have a contact there, let me know and I'll happily tell them about it.

I think it's hard for Google to scale if it has to individual respond to things like this.

BeccaMumsnet · 16/02/2016 14:37

Hi all - we appreciate these posts were from higher up the thread, but they've just been flagged to us.

Can we please steer clear of discussing the recent bereavements of named people on here. The person concerned has been in touch and is quite upset about it, and we do feel it's out of order. Thanks all.

Powertotheparalai · 16/02/2016 15:06

Oooh whose that MN warning about? Initials please 😁😁
