I know this is a how long is a piece of string type question but roughly how much would you spend on a monthly basis on gas, water and electricity in your home and what size house do you have?

I am just trying to work out roughly how much this will cost me per month with two adults in a two bed semi.

Thanks!

Greyhorses · 16/10/2014 08:38

Maybe I have underestimated!

There is two of us in a 2 bed semi and we put aside £150 for all 3, might have to rethink!

Thanks for the replies everyone

that should be right but it does depend on usage, insulation, water company charge (meter or not) etc.

two of us at home a lot and we spend £31 a month on electricity. Heating and water from oil, cooking from gas dishwasher every other day, four washes a week (no dryer), lights, TV and electric oven which I use about once a week.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 16/10/2014 14:06

Currently 4 adults in 3 bed terrace in Lancs

Gas/elec is £100 a month & water (I think) about £25, not metered (only for 10 months so £20 equivalent)

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 16/10/2014 14:09

Oh, forgot, have gas CH, gas hob, electric oven

occasional use of electric heater during cold snaps in attic without radiator. Last winter was mild though

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/10/2014 17:47

2 Adults should be cheap, I'm assuming your both out all day? So you won't need heating on between 9-5??.

Ours is

Electric £26
Gas £12
Water £20.

3 bed semi.

Prosopopeia · 18/10/2014 14:54

3 bed tiny terrace, one adult, two kids 5 and 7.

Prepayment meters. In winter Im spending about £30 a week on gas now as they've increased my the amount of debt I pay back.
Electric in winter is about £20 a week.

Both those amounts include meter standing charge of £2 a week and debt repayment which I think is about £10-12 a week.

I'm massively I'm debt with my water bill so that's automatically deducted from my JobSeekers allowance before I receive it.

I don't have a dishwasher, do 2-3 loads of laundry a week, no tumbler, electric shower used 1-2 times a day, kids bath every other day, Eco bulbs everywhere (apparently they use up 15mins worth of electric when you first switch them on, so best to get out of the old habit of 'turning the lights off in each room to save electric'!), and the tele is on only from 4pm-midnight each night. Blimey that sounds a lot Blush well it's only cbeebies and I keep it on for company in the evenings.

I'm not working at the moment but I don't have heating or tele on daytimes. The kettle gets used a lot though..

3 bedroom semi - 1 adult and 2 children although they are not here all the time and neither am I. I pay £68 a month for gas and electricity although always seem to be in credit. Will see how the winter goes. Water is £17 a month.

annielostit · 20/10/2014 17:34

Big 3 bed bungalow with open plan conservatory/kitchen diner. 3 g/ups. £125 gas & electric, 36 water meter. Dishwasher/ 10 clothes wash/wk.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/10/2014 17:44

Prosopopeia

It's a myth that energy saving bulbs cost more to switch off than run. If you could stretch to a dishwasher one day that would save you money too.

myfurbyisalive · 20/10/2014 23:40

2 adults, 1 bed mid floor flat London.

Water - £25
Gas and leccy we pay £50 pm but seem to have been in credit for a while now.

WestEast · 21/10/2014 00:00

Two bed, newish build flat, oop north, two adults.
Electric £50 (prepayment meter)
No gas supply
Water £25
Currently not got the heating on as only have storage heaters but the flat is really well insulated and we seem to heat it up just by being in it after an hour or so in the evenings.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/10/2014 21:33

Tbh the only thing that increases with extra people is water usage if on a meter - my bills didn't go up with Dp moving in

Ie don't use any more g&e as still have heating on either way

80 gas
40 electricity
16 water in
18 water out

3 bed semi and 2 adults and I like a warm
House

dollybird · 21/10/2014 21:38

4 bed house, 2 adults 2 secondary age children. Gas/elec is £102 a month and water just gone up to £63 a month (on a meter). We seem to do an awful lot of washing, DH showers twice a day, the rest of us once a day. Also have a biggish garden and DH is a keen gardener, so lots of watering in the summer, although we do have 6 water butts!!

LineRunner · 21/10/2014 21:41

It's averaging out at about £200 pcm to put aside.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 21/10/2014 21:47
