New thread is ready on the board for when this one is full ..........

TalkinPeace · 25/04/2014 21:26

PS
I love eating out BUT it should always be done with money you have already put aside, not money you have yet to earn

MissAnnersleyismyhero · 25/04/2014 21:30

kinky massive respect, I find teaching very draining in a highly academic environment never mind in such a challenging school! I love it though, it's the best job in the world. I have been known to go into work feeling grumpy/tired/down about something and end up come home feeling really happy after boarding duty or teaching because it's just so much fun and so rewarding. I am really lucky Smile

TalkinPeace · 25/04/2014 21:33

see you teacher types need my DH to come and make it all better Wink

Mum4Fergus · 25/04/2014 21:54

Saw new post TiP...marvellous intro, love it Grin

KinkyDorito · 26/04/2014 06:43

Miss sounds really nice. I love teaching, but the state education is very bleak at the moment for teachers and for kids. The monitoring is getting ridiculous - I was in one of the best state schools in my area (Outstanding/1s for everything) for 8 years and the scrutiny was awful. I was repeatedly told that I was one of the best teachers, but then picked at under the guise of whole school improvement almost continually. Morale was low. I saw what it did to the new teachers and those who were already finding it tough. So I moved at Christmas. Although it is a much more supportive environment, the scrutiny is still there as there is the pressure to go from a 4 to a 2 in Ofsted terms as quickly as possible.

I'd just like to teach! I think if I could take away the constant nagging for this or that to be filled in, justified, learning walked or observed and simply be left alone, we'd all be much happier - me and the students! It's like we are just not trusted to want to do a good job. Sadly, I think some teachers haven't in the past so we're all under the microscope as a result of their feckless ways - nationally, not just where I've taught. Sad

What does you DH do Talkin?

MissAnnersleyismyhero · 26/04/2014 07:12

Kinky would you consider moving into the private system? There's a lot more freedom for staff and pupils. Very little focus on inspections or results and yet the pupils get fantastic results and we usually get glowing inspection reports... probably because staff and pupils are happy, passionate about their subject and don't feel continually got at all the time!

Nerf · 26/04/2014 11:48

Ok I am in panic mode. Come up with a plan! The problem I always have is managing the money and using it wisely in terms of debt. Not in terms of silly spending, we definitely have a handle on that.
Pay rise of 200 per month. Do I try to save it? Pay it straight off debt? Use it so we don't use credit cards at all? I just feel we have loads of bits of money coming in and it's not being used properly. But maybe it is and I'm impatient. Payday Monday!

mandakl · 26/04/2014 12:03

Reading on MSE that people are getting these thieving payments refunded immediately by their banks under the direct debit guarantee.

No need to wait for Erudio to sort out their mess. Claim the payments back via the bank NOW.

mandakl · 26/04/2014 12:04

^ Sorry wrong thread. Blush

KinkyDorito · 26/04/2014 12:51

Maybe I should Miss. What's pay like? I'm currently hoping to move up to HOD - will look for promotions next year. I do have a good academic record, but not from RG uni and I'm quite common!! Don't know if I'd pull off an interview. My results are always good - for example just moved E/D AS kids up to B/A. Feeling pleased with myself as it was hard work but we got there. Hoping exams are kind

Nerf I would put it straight on a debt like I'd never had it, but it does depend on whether it is extra money or needed because you were too tight before? Set your budgets and if you don't 'need' it, debt it. Make sure you have an emergency fund first too though. I have a few hundred just in case.

Mum4Fergus · 26/04/2014 13:00

Nerf, Id do a full review of your budget and get it to a position where you will not need to accrue any further debt...have an emergency fund put aside and budget for everything else. The surplus each month then can get thrown to the debt in the comfort of knowing you have everything else covered.

The first couple of months this year I did this were uncomfortable for me knowing that every penny had been accounted for, but now I work really well with it. It has really curbed my spending and made me focus Smile

MissAnnersleyismyhero · 26/04/2014 14:17

kinky pay is higher than the national payscale for teachers - I'm in my second year of teaching with no additional responsibilities yet and am on £33,000 before tax, it will go up a bit every year as the payscale is quite staggered. I am hoping to move up to HoD soonish (maybe start looking in Sept 2015 to start Sept 2016) (I was in another career before teaching so not as young and inexperienced as most people who have only been teaching 2 years!)
Dh just landed a job in another private school nearish here and is starting on £33,000 in September, it's his first teaching post, moving from academia.

KinkyDorito · 26/04/2014 15:44

It took me about 7 years to earn that! I don't know if it's a bit of a leap going from the school I'm currently in though. I'm going to start looking next year unless current place can up my TLR. I'm on minor responsibility in my 11th year and earn about 39.5k. It would have been about 41k if I hadn't have been forced to step back when DD was ill. I'm the main earner and would like a nice TLR1 to put me onto 45-50k, then I would feel much happier with both role and salary. I've done every aspect of HOD in a large school, just never actually got a job doing it!

Mum4Fergus · 26/04/2014 16:33

Afternoon all...fun day at school only set me back £5 which I had budgeted for, but 5 mins before we left someone dropped by to pay for and collect a ready bed I had in Facebay...so Im £10 in profit today! £30 left from food budget too do have transferred £40 towards repaying OD.

First night on my own as DS goes for sleepover at his Dads new place...can't stop crying now he's left...he of course thinks its a huge adventure and couldn't get out the door fast enough ... going to be a long 24 hours Hmm

Nerf · 26/04/2014 17:59

Thank you Kinky and Mum. I think that sounds sensible and have acted on it!

Mum4Fergus · 26/04/2014 18:07

Good for you Nerf Smile

Puffer123 · 26/04/2014 18:11

Mum, so sorry, been there, holding your hand. There is definitely an upside though: time just for yourself with no interruptions! Bath, cinema, long walk, that book you meant to read, gardening, painting a room... It does get easier.

Very embarrassed on finances. Decided I needed a change of scenery for the holidays and did negotiate a really good deal (and we all feel better for it) but still, shouldn't have happened.
