Hi all! We had a nice weekend away at my sisters, paid for by saving up the few weeks before. I have paid off cc1 yippee!! Now trying to tackle the overdraft as have realised we are paying £10 per month interest. Aiming to get it down to £500, which is interest free. Then am planning to start tackling cc2, £5300.

We have car insurance to pay in may, which I will pay monthly I think so that we don't have a big whack to find. And I also need a new tyre. And we think we need a new washing machine :(

I'm feeling frustrated at the wait for payday now!!

All in all the last few months have been a definite move in the right direction.

ishesingle · 23/04/2014 14:28

I do my insurances monthly - make sure you shop around cos I got mine from £37 a month to £17.50 a month today , and also got house insurance from £26 to £12. Make sure you go through Quidco too Grin

puffylovett · 23/04/2014 16:02

Ooh where did you go? I've always shopped around but our insurance has just taken a hike as changed the car. the new one is older but more powerful.

I haven't used quidco before, I don't really shop online anymore - is it still worth signing up?

afterthought · 23/04/2014 18:30

A quick YNAB question - I have just started a new job and get paid middle of the month - is there anyway that the budget can be set up to reflect this or can it only be done by calendar months? Thanks

rubbish! I thought that would be the case as I imagined that's what the aim would be. Sadly, I'm a long way off that!

TalkinPeace · 23/04/2014 19:48

OOH
OOH thread going to be full soon

Pretty please request
could the next one be called

Number 3 : Support thread for those who are in and want to get out of DEBT

but as the resident not in debt rottweiler
I'm still so chuffed and impressed with you who have moved from "spend / borrow / spend" to " live within means"
is a huge conceptual leap that involves ignoring all the media messages
and you are better for it

TiP feels all fluffy inside

ishesingle · 24/04/2014 08:31

Afterthought - when you get your wages in, do them as a "split" and allocate half to this month and half to next month (or 60/40 or 70/30 or whatever split works for you depending on where bills fall in the month).

You could then organise your bill categories into "first half of month" and "second half of month" so it's easier to work out where to give the pounds their jobs.

Nerf · 24/04/2014 21:47

Hello all. Paid 200 off my Barclay card and moved it out my wallet and into a cupboard.
TiP - would you like the honour of starting a new thread? Grin

KinkyDorito · 25/04/2014 06:57

Payday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will sort money later, have a little stress and update.

MissAnnersleyismyhero · 25/04/2014 08:15

PAYDAY

CC1: £4692 £4595

CC2: £3781 £3675

Car hire purchase: £3764 £3072

DH Old Student Overdraft: £1940

CC3: £1692 £462.54 £0 GONE Grin Grin DH closing it today!

CC4: £1405.49 £0 GONE

Total: 17,274.95 £13,944.54 £13, 282

DH gets paid on 30th, we should make a big dent in the Student Overdraft then, as he is getting his overtime/freelance money (hopefully Hmm )

MissAnnersleyismyhero · 25/04/2014 08:23

e-saver now has £300 stacked there for emergencies. Am owed £110 in expenses from work which I have been told will be with me next week some time, that will go straight off the student overdraft.

Can't wait for DH to get paid, he's been owed some of this money since OCTOBER. Freelancing sucks, he can't wait to start the new job in September.

Mum4Fergus · 25/04/2014 08:57

Woohoo, great results from you guys...brilliant!! No second wage for me this month Hmm but managing well so far. Been bringing breakfast and lunch to work which is saving a good amount.Birthday party today with DS,present/card were budgeted for, school fete tomorrow (can't avoid it,we live right at school gates!)...so have put £5 aside from food budget for a treat for DS. New food budget starts Mon but confident I'll have money left this week to throw at debt Smile

I was hoping nobody would post!

I've done £230 off the CC this month. Am a little fed up as would love to be clearing nearer £500 but just can't do it at the moment.

Cat has renal failure and his pills and food have added an extra £100 a month onto outgoings. So expensive. I also have a cleaning lady once a fortnight for £26. Because I'm working a new job, I am absolutely stretched to the max - I've been doing 70-80 hour weeks including long days on both days at weekend, so am really reluctant to let her go until I get a handle on it, but each time I look at the outgoing I feel so guilty. Will be £78 this month... I think I will get myself to the summer and review. She doesn't come in the holidays, so that's a bonus. She's probably getting sick of me constantly reducing the hours!

I think DH would rather me let her go and us go back to sharing all cleaning. ATM I work and he does the washing/ironing work wear which is vast, plus garden at weekend. I cook. He would rather I step back from work hours and do more at home with him. The problem is, if I lose momentum at work I will lose the ground I've gained to enable me to look for a promotion in the next academic year. I've lost responsibility and pay since DD was ill and I want to gain it back. I'm facing about another 35 years of work, so am determined to get higher up into management. It's hard though as it does have a cost for both my family and financially as I get the cleaner in to cover what we should be doing ourselves so she can facilitate me working. I'm hoping once I get a bit higher that I can settle into it; I will feel happier then. I'm not fussed to be senior management, but a decently paid middle-management role would suit me.

That was a very long-winded excuse for the cleaning lady Grin Grin.

TalkinPeace · 25/04/2014 17:43

Kinky
You KNOW that you will regret the spending.
Open the fridge and play "ready steady cook" with the oddments and Amaze yourself with a meal you'd never normally do

KinkyDorito · 25/04/2014 17:57

Smile I am making something. I am being good.

silkknickers · 25/04/2014 18:53

Smile kinky

MissAnnersleyismyhero · 25/04/2014 19:00

kinky I have a cleaning lady too Blush she's £22 a fortnightly visit, but tbh DH works 7am-7.30pm and I work in a boarding school teaching Saturdays and doing evening duties ... I am not spending the one day I have free a week (Sunday) cleaning.

KinkyDorito · 25/04/2014 20:47

It is tough with the hours Miss. I'm at the other end of the spectrum - very challenging inner city with an awful lot of A Level and GCSE to kids who need support after school. Plus, lots of inspections. Joy!

I made pasta. I did buy some 'treat' ice creams at Aldi though to celebrate payday. Feels a bit more virtuous than a full pizza blow-out.

Nerf · 25/04/2014 21:16

Kinky - brilliant. Takeaway is such a massive transient waste of money.
