Keeping our nanny on p/t when dd went to nursery (and letting her keep her car, fully expensed, even though she only works 12 hrs a week) (my bribe to keep her on)

Holidays

Am mean about buying new clothes.

FairyMum · 20/04/2006 17:53

biggest extravagance must be private gym membership for the 5 of us

i am very tight when it comes to buying anything for the house and hate spending money on clothes too.

bran · 20/04/2006 17:57

Totally extravagant expenditure on books (I once started to add up how much I'd spend on Amazon and had to stop because it was scaring me).

I don't spend much on clothes or shoes, mostly lack of interest rather than meanness though. I make a point of buying supermarkt's own washing power, diswasher tables and bleach though (as though that would go any way towards off-setting my book addiction).

pussycatmomma · 20/04/2006 18:17

Biggest spend thats not really necessary is at hairdressers.....much to dps despairSmile Colouring is expensive, No darlin you would not like my hair its natural colour , i would look like a mouse. Believe it or not i am not a natural chocolate brown brunette with caramel blonde slices and No my hair does not natuarally grow to blunt cut chin length by itself!!
I am quite tight when it comes to .....
Actually if i am being honest i am not naturally tight with anything i like to spend and buy nice thingsWink I dont spend very much on clothes and i like bargains from charity shops and ebay. But that makes me a wiley shopper and just means i can buy more!

bonkerz · 20/04/2006 18:21

Biggest extravagence is buying clothes from NEXT for my children!

i do scrimp on washing powder and tinned foods tho!!!

Greensleeves · 20/04/2006 18:22

Curry. Often. Grin

lucykate · 20/04/2006 18:31

for me, boden. i don't buy new clothes often but when i do, they are usually from boden

scrimp on my hair, i go for a dry trim at the hairdressers and colour it myself, and cosmetics, i don't wear make up

Moondog · 20/04/2006 18:40

For us,travel,food and nice wine.

I am very frugal when it comes to splashing out on toys and clothes for the children.Spend a lot of time and money in second hand shops as I abhorr waste and rampant consumerism.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 20/04/2006 18:42

splash out on tv's and boots for moi

scrimp on nothing tbh

puff · 20/04/2006 18:44

for me personally, my gym membership is my biggest extravagance.

Things I'm tight about........nothing really, but I love hunting out bargains and tend to bulk buy stuff when it's on offer.

CountessDracula · 20/04/2006 18:45

oh yes, nice wine Blush How could I forget

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 20/04/2006 18:45

extravagance for me is 7 for all mankind jeans, once you've tried a pair on there's no going back. dh is extravagant about food - spends a fortune on deli stuff and buys steak to casserole (which really annoys me). I'm tight about everything else. Don't spend much on clothes (apart from my jeans) mainly coz I can't be bothered to shop, don;t spend much on house type stuff - again out of lack of interest.

Cappucino · 20/04/2006 18:56

just trying to think of something I'm extravagant about... I can think of 101 things I'm tight about

I would say wine but I even get that from Aldi

I'm just tight all round Wink

kitegirl · 20/04/2006 19:04

extravagance - ds in nursery two mornings a week even though I am a SAHM. oh and sports equipment (snow/kiteboards)

tight about wine - for me they all taste the same anyway!

alexsmum · 20/04/2006 19:09

extravagant about food and wine and tight about clothes for me!

expatinscotland · 20/04/2006 19:14

does rent count?

we're tight about most things out of necessity.

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2006 19:21

Extravagant about:
food
ds's shoes and sometimes clothes
books

Tight about:
haircuts (get a trainee to do it)
anything I can get cheap on eBay - clothes, shoes, anything

PeachyClair · 20/04/2006 20:02

our biggest (only) extravagances are rent- the house is in a posher area than we need- and carnival as that costs us loads in petrol etc, although it is the main activity in the house.

Tight on everything else.

Moondog · 20/04/2006 20:04

PC..carnival??
Are you in UK?
Am intersted in whole cult of carnival. Smile

expatinscotland · 20/04/2006 20:07

extravagant about shoes for DD1. she was a VERY late walker who has a very long, narrow foot. so we make sure she is properly fitted for a new pair every other month.

i also have my hair cut every 6 weeks and high/lowlighted every 12 weeks. it's too grey for me to cover it w/box kits and keeping it in a layered bob saves me LOADS of time in the mornings.

PeachyClair · 20/04/2006 20:35

Moondog, yup this is us \link{http://www.somersetguyfawkescarnivals.co.uk/\here}

we help run a kids club now, but we have been in two of the biggest clubs, and can trace it back several generations. It is DH's life really, and I'm being sucked in- I do the website for Rscals, and I am about to train as a NVQ assessor for the carnivals too.

CAT me if there's anything you're interested in, or if you;re ever over Somerset come visit!

Hoping to do a carnival / procession theme for my dissertation next year. Good excuse to go to more Grin

PeachyClair · 20/04/2006 20:38

Ohh and this \link{http://images2.somersetguyfawkescarnivals.co.uk/2002/2002griffens40.JPG\ here} literally IS dh.

See, yu're right about the cult... obsessive me! Blush

Surfermum · 20/04/2006 22:38

Holidays.

Everything else so I can have the holidays!
