what are you really tight about?

Oh God, 39p mince? What on earth must be in that?! In Llandudno last week saw some 'cornish pasties' that had a little label coming out the top with '8% meat content' on it! Yikes! Who's gonna buy that?!!

Maybe I should list one of my extravagances as butchers meat but it doesn't feel like a luxury item to me!

Greensleeves · 21/04/2006 12:34

Agree about the capital "M" moondog

There has been quite enough Tinkering With The Natural Order on MN today already....Grin

schneebly · 21/04/2006 12:34

I was tesco 'finest' steak mince but they had an overstock and it was coming up to it's sell by date - dont see whats wrong with that?

dinosaure · 21/04/2006 12:34

sounds fine to me schneebly

Greensleeves · 21/04/2006 12:34

Good on you Schneebly - I would have snapped it up Grin

GDG · 21/04/2006 12:35

Mind you, my kids have been brought up on formula - containing fish eyes and algae dontcha know - so they are probably doomed anyway. Perhaps I shouldn't even bother buying expensive meat and organic fruit and veg? I could spend the money saved on another extravagance - say shoes?

Greensleeves · 21/04/2006 12:35

Whirrrrr click click

Take her batteries out someone, she's off again

Moondog · 21/04/2006 12:37

Did I have no capital before?? Grin
I am on a new computer in Turkey and had to do lots of logging in again.
Must change back.

Where were you exactly in Llandudno GDG???
I was in them thar parts at that time too!

NotActuallyAMum · 21/04/2006 12:42

Moondog I'm only buying a few new things - and only because I've put so much weight on recently I have very little that fits Blush

Prufrock · 21/04/2006 18:09

Biggest extravagance - at the moment my outrageously expensive new bathroom/bedroom and in particular the aromatherapy towel warmer which is costing more than the (already expensive) bath, sink and loo put together.

Tight about - special offers/coupons at supermarket, buying kids clothes from Gap, Next etc, and Xmas cards and wrapping only in advance in the sale.

snafu · 21/04/2006 18:13

(Jealously) pmsl at 'aromatherapy towel warmer', Prufrock...

moondog · 21/04/2006 19:29

Tell us more about the towel warmer then.....

charmkin · 21/04/2006 20:01

Can i just say in a really proud manner that this is the longest thread i have ever started! Feel like a real mnetter now!

And in answer to my own question...

am tight about washing powder, nappies, birthday pressies for kids parties ( book people!), nappies and holidays - i actually hate the enormous pressure of spending money on holidays - what if kids are ill or you have a crap time what a waste of money!

extravagances - clothes for dd - she has ridculous amounts, funnily enough am not the same with ds; wine; fresh flowers every week;tesco finest fruit and veg um and glossy mags.

moondog · 21/04/2006 20:03

Cappucino · 21/04/2006 20:16

just remembered an extravagance!!

coffee, nice frothy job from Neros. Have had about fifteen loyalty cards and the shop only opened a year back.

notasheep · 21/04/2006 20:49

£300 on a dress
Birthday cards

CHICagoMUM · 21/04/2006 20:52

Extravagance - fresh flowers (totally unnecessary but I always like to have them around at home to add a splash of colour).

Tight - about kids clothes (I refuse to shop at Gap/Next etc as they are so expensive and they grow out of them so quickly - find Matalan and H+M so much better valus for money).

dublindee · 21/04/2006 21:26

Chicago, I would not get Gap, next or Monsoon clothes for DS either if didn't live less than half an hour's drive from Cheshire Oaks! Got loads of 10% discount cards and I also wait til the sales!

Besides designer gear are what Aunties and Grandparents are for!

elastamum · 21/04/2006 21:42

2 horses and a pony Blush

Really tight about not buying anything we cant pay for. Never can bear to throw old clothes or toys away. Always pass stuff on or recycle.

miggy · 21/04/2006 21:50

Extravagance-books, magazines, food (spent £4.50 on enough Jersey royal pots for one meal yesterday, prompting dd (7) to say " Oh mummy you are bad with money!" :) and horses (saw a sign last week that said "caution horses may bite" prompting DH to "wittily" add, "well it doesnt mention the fact that they make you bankrupt as well"
Tight-spending money on alcohol when out, cant bear the mark up.
Cosmetics

elastamum · 21/04/2006 21:52

LOL about being bankrupted!!! Know just how it feels
