he gives me £100 a week to do the food shop. That normally is enough, sometimes just over, sometimes just under, feeds 5 of us for 6 days and kn a saturday dh buys a takeaway.
He thins that this amount is totally unreasonable, and i think its pretty good.

So how much do you spend!
How many of you are there?

Thanks Smile

Can you sit down and do an online shop with him, show him where the money is going? Where do you normally shop? If you have an Aldi or lidl near you can you try there? I spend E80 per week ish for 3 adults and one toddler, this includes applies. I shop twice a month at Lidl, and twice a month get a tesco online shop. Usually top up during the week at local corner shop for bread milk and bananas, about E10 per week.

knittedbreast · 12/08/2011 18:24

what on earth are you feeding yourselves? it costs us 60 a week for 2 adults and 2 children.

MarshaBrady · 12/08/2011 18:27

It is high atm. £160 per week from Ocado. Then maybe another £20 at butcher.

lovecorrie · 12/08/2011 18:32

what are these figures !!! £160 a week!! We spend under £250 a month for four of us - dh does it all - he is totally brilliant at it, goes after 7 to get reduced goods, uses vouchers, and is generally extremely clever with money - which is lucky as we have none! we used to get online delivery but as he says you don't get the bargains that way Grin

MarshaBrady · 12/08/2011 18:36

Oh I know, it's high. I don't think about it too much but it usually ends up being 2 x £80 Ocado deliveries a week.

We do save each time online, at the end of the shopping I see a 'you have saved £13' etc per shop which I am quite pleased about.

MadameCastafiore · 12/08/2011 18:40

Between £130 - £150 - there is only 5 of us but that covers shampoo and cleaning prodcuts too.

Dh does moan about it sometimes so I tell him to get on and do it himself - surprisingly he always shrugs and wanders off mumbling!

JustFiveMinutesHAHAHA · 12/08/2011 18:47

Frankly, I'd tell him any whinging about what it costs and he can shop and cook. End of.

MUMMYPLEDGER · 23/08/2011 11:22

I only spent about £40 a week and that includes nappies, toiletries, food etc but we use sainsburies basics everything (even nappies - they are good and only £1.48 a pack) and use mostly tinned and frozen food so nothing is wasted. There is 2 adults and 2 under 5's who eat nearly as much as the adults

MUMMYPLEDGER · 23/08/2011 11:23

prob spend an extra £10 on top of that cos the littlest one is lactose intolerant so she needs soya everything...

wearenotinkansas · 23/08/2011 19:13

Between £45-£60 a week on main shop (Asda) - although sometimes we actually only need one of these for 3 out of 4 weeks. Plus I buy veg and meat/fish locally, plus extra top ups and treats from Waitrose and M&S - around another £30 per week I guess, sometimes more. We don't eat much meat or drink a lot of booze which probably keeps the bills lower. That is for 3 of us.

Takeaways aren't included in that (probably only 2 a month?)
