JSA suspended

Im posting for a friend right now, they really dont know what to do.

My friend is due to give birth any day (had sweep on friday so really is iminant) he husband claims JSA since being made redundant 16 months ago, He has been on various training courses since being on JSA and applied for 100s of jobs but none have been given.

He signed on on 11th and they were expecting money tomorrow. Today they recieved a letter from HB saying it had been stopped due to JSA being stopped.
Rang job center who said that when husband signed on on 28/10 he was told to apply for a job doing cleaning and never did. Husband disputes this and has photocopy of application form and its date stamped with date it was posted at PO.
He has just been down job center who have basically said TOUGH you cant reapply till 6th Jan and if they are lucky they can get 40% payment till then via hardship fund.
Obviously friend is absolutely beside herself, they can prove husband applied for jobs etc and its all a mistake but they cant do anything. They have 4 DCs at home and one due any day, no gas, no money and christmas round the corner.

Husband has gone CBA now to get help filling out forms (he is dyslexic) but i dont know how to help them.

I'd suggest emergency appointment with your local MP.

cashmygold · 18/11/2010 21:13

Why are they procreating when husband has no job.

If he was made redundant 16 months ago. then had no business putting misses up the dove when job prospects aren't stable. Also not fair to put the kids they already have under more hardship....

poor kids i say

cashmygold · 18/11/2010 21:14

Is there an apppeals process???

lifeinagoldfishbowl · 18/11/2010 21:16

Agree cashmygold

gregssausageroll · 19/11/2010 07:12

I'm afraid I have to agree with cashmygold. Why on earth are they having a 5th baby while on JSA? Anyway, too late to change that but all I can suggest is either talking to a manager at the local office or by phone, the CAB or making an appeal.

lifeinagoldfishbowl · 19/11/2010 11:25

bump

natandchris10 · 19/11/2010 20:24

agreed with cashmygold.. how iresponsible (sp?) of them to have another baby if he has no job..

kfc,burger king,mcdonalds,warehouses,cleaning,chip shops

to name just a few who are recruiting nationwide...plenty of jobs really

Bonkerz · 20/11/2010 11:50

i agree with you, and have voiced my opinion to friend over this. I dont think its right either but that doesnt mean that being left with no money and risk of losing the roof over their heads this close to christmas and with new baby due any day is right either!
Thanks for the constructive help though. Luckily CAB were great and i actually went to job center with friends husband on Friday and we sat and went through everything with manager there and after i had typed out a letter for them it was all resovled and everything reinstated.
On a plus side and i probably should have mentioned this in my OP but it didnt seem relevant to the immediate situation, my friends husband has secured a part time job starting January 6th which he has been promised wil be increased to full time within 3 months. He has been searching for work since he was made redundant but with no paper qualifications its been very tough although he has had some work through agencies etc.

gregssausageroll · 20/11/2010 12:04

I am glad it has worked out for them and I hope the New Year brings better things for them.

natandchris10 · 20/11/2010 12:13

you dont need paper qualifications to clean tables...

something my OH has had to do as he cant find something he got made redundant 6 weeks ago, we got offered £20 JSA..this kind of thing really pisses me off with people taking the piss and popping out kids for the extra child benefit...

Mumcentreplus · 20/11/2010 12:21

Fucking hell whats with the attitude on this thread??..you don't know this couples immediate circumstances...

natandchris10 · 20/11/2010 12:30

immediate cirumstances?? have you read the actual thread?

man out of work
gets woman pregnant
complains they have no money as he has no job and 4 kids..ffs?

its not rocket science to figure out whats wrong with the picture really is it!!!

families struggling up and down the country doing everything they can to make the most of the situation they are in and these fools cant even use contraception!

Mumcentreplus · 20/11/2010 13:45

How do you know the DP had not been promised work and it fell through?..how do you know they were not using protection and it didn't work? should they have aborted the child?..you know fuck all about these people are choose to judge them in the harshest possible terms?..

comewhinewithme · 20/11/2010 13:50

Wow! Judgeypants at the ready ladies Hmm.

A lot of you sound like the people who post comments on the Daily Mail website whilst doing a cat bums mouth and shaking your head.

tethersend · 20/11/2010 13:51

What the fucking fuck?

He has had his JSA stopped through a mistake the job centre made.

Are you seriously suggesting that this is the universe's way of punishing them for having another child whilst he was out of work?

It would be funny if you weren't all serious.

What Mumcentreplus said.

natandchris10 · 20/11/2010 16:10

atleast they are getting help..

that is obviously where i am going wrong..we get fuck all help when we need it so they are lucky!

off to pop out another child to increase my income...Biscuit

MollieO · 20/11/2010 16:16

I know nothing about JSA so hopefully someone can advise me. I note that the unemployed dh has no 'paper qualifications'. 16 months is a long time to be unemployed and obviously the job market is difficult. However is it not possible to study part time (eg evening class) whilst on JSA? An evening class would give him some qualifications and shouldn't interfere with his ability to be available for work.

As for having a 5th child whilst unemployed I suppose they must be more optimistic than others in their situation.

TotorosOcarina · 20/11/2010 16:21

Yeah theres that new Torie rule that says if you have a contraceptive mishap whilst on JSA you HAVE to have an abortion Hmm

llareggub · 20/11/2010 16:36

How lovely to see the compassion and empathy on this thread.

I agree with the suggestion for an emergency appointment with the local MP.

natandchris10 · 20/11/2010 16:41

who said anything about having an abortion??

JSA works in different ways and never goes in the favour of the people who need it for example..

my oh lost his job and went to sign on..i have gone back to work part time in the evenings..bearing in mind my OH lost his monthly income of £1000 they told us we can have £20 a week...apparently they feel this can cover the rent. we applied for housing benefit to be told we dont meet the right criteria and should move..Hmm

But then...

My OH brother is a good for nothing lay about with nothing better to do with his life than sit play xbox sponge off their dad and smoke weed...he gets £60 a week JSA for the pleasure...

how the fuck they work these things out i will never know. bunch of arseholes the fucking lot of em!

Yes training is possible my OH was offered a learning course which would get him an extra £50 a week on his JSA

TotorosOcarina · 20/11/2010 16:51

People asking why they are procreating whilst on JSA.

Not all pregnancies are planned.

Maybe people on JSA should be banned from having sex altogether.

natandchris10 · 20/11/2010 16:54

good idea totoros...that way the tax payer wouldnt have to keep bearing the brunt

TotorosOcarina · 20/11/2010 17:01

Oh fuck off.

cashmygold · 20/11/2010 17:27

"Maybe people on JSA should be banned from having sex altogether."

Not at all but they should at least practice safe sex.

At the end of the day I think its selfish behaviour to have kids whilst on benefits. The kids suffer in the end.

The trouble in this country is that it has been rewarding irresponsible behaviour for far too long. Now the coalition want to do something about it everyone is up in arms. I am aware that genuine claimants suffer in the process but something has to give.

I would love to have lipo suction, but i wouldn't ask the state to pay for it.

so why is it okay for people to choose to have children and expect others to pick up the tab. I didn't have the pleasure of making the baby!!!!
