JSA suspended

Im posting for a friend right now, they really dont know what to do.

My friend is due to give birth any day (had sweep on friday so really is iminant) he husband claims JSA since being made redundant 16 months ago, He has been on various training courses since being on JSA and applied for 100s of jobs but none have been given.

He signed on on 11th and they were expecting money tomorrow. Today they recieved a letter from HB saying it had been stopped due to JSA being stopped.
Rang job center who said that when husband signed on on 28/10 he was told to apply for a job doing cleaning and never did. Husband disputes this and has photocopy of application form and its date stamped with date it was posted at PO.
He has just been down job center who have basically said TOUGH you cant reapply till 6th Jan and if they are lucky they can get 40% payment till then via hardship fund.
Obviously friend is absolutely beside herself, they can prove husband applied for jobs etc and its all a mistake but they cant do anything. They have 4 DCs at home and one due any day, no gas, no money and christmas round the corner.

Husband has gone CBA now to get help filling out forms (he is dyslexic) but i dont know how to help them.

crikey i apologise for this thread and asking for help.

As stated I ALSO DISAGREED WHEN FRIEND TOLD ME SHE WAS PREGNANT but it wasnt planned, she had the injection and spent the first 6 months of her pregnancy absolutely gutted about having a 5th baby. She has actually been near bed bound for that last 10 weeks and has just gone hospital now in labour......
In answer to some of the things above.
Friends husband was made redundant in early August 2009.......since then he has worked for a few agencies and done the odd week here and there, all the jobs were with a view that the companies would take him on full time but they have not. He has done an english NVQ and a maths NVQ and also done a training course with the local council to drive the rubbish and recycling trucks and also the street cleaners.....when he did that training he was told he could guarentee a job but the local councils (he applied to 3 surrounding areas) have not been taking on new staff. He is doing all he can to find work......in our area its just very difficult. HE NOW HAS A JOB FOR JANUARY.

'my oh lost his job and went to sign on..i have gone back to work part time in the evenings..bearing in mind my OH lost his monthly income of £1000 they told us we can have £20 a week'...

erm you are working do you understand why you both cannot get full JSA?.. the amount is calculated according to your INCOME only the first £5 is disregarded..

The opinions and obvious issues some people have with the umemployed beggars belief...

So easy to judge people wow...

I hope none of you never end up in this family's position...or would you accept/deserve a verbal flogging because after all you are unemployed not a tax payer anymore..fuck me this attitude is scary

Mumcentreplus · 20/11/2010 17:53

Well I think people DO need to think about how they would manage should the worst happen. Fair enough if you can afford 5 kids when working. But you have also have to think about how you would support those children to adulthood not knowing what might happen in the future. You save, you insure, or you don't have 5 kids.

tethersend · 20/11/2010 18:20

So...

  1. You are on JSA.
  2. You have sex.
  3. Contraception fails.
  4. You become pregnant.

At which point do you not have a baby?

Of course Lady, how silly of me. Lie back and think of the taxpayer, eh?

natandchris10 · 20/11/2010 19:38

mumcentreplus maybe you should go back and read my post again so you understand it before you comment...

i am not claiming JSA, My OH is because he has lost his monthly income. my point is how can they justify replacing £1000 with £30 a week?!! yet then give people that sit on their arses all day the full amount?!

Portofino · 20/11/2010 20:08

Surely JSA is initially not income related? So if your DH has been working before that he should be entitled to the full amount?

natandchris10 · 20/11/2010 20:12

this is what we thought but evidently not..

Portofino · 20/11/2010 20:20

I would go back to Job Centre or CAB and check that....

Mumcentreplus · 20/11/2010 20:22

'Surely JSA is initially not income related? So if your DH has been working before that he should be entitled to the full amount?'

If your partner wants to make a claim in his own right and not as a couple he can as a contribution based claimant obviously dependant upon if he has paid enough contributions in the last 2 years for up to 6 mths...

nobodyisasomebody · 22/11/2010 12:26

Natandchris10
JSA is 65.45 a week and then you would need to claim housing benefit on top of that .

They would make deductions for your income from part time job.

They would not replace yor OH's 1k a month income.

Have you claimed housing benefit?

onadietcokebreak · 25/11/2010 21:00

she needs to claim income support when she is 29wks pregnant for herself and dp. She can claim til baby is 15wks old.

She receives the money for family.

He can continue claiming jsa and get contribution credits.
