Hello everyone and welcome to the new thread for Round Two!

To recap, the basic rules are:
No chicklit
No abuse memoir type stuff
No horror
No hardbacks

Auto/biography is allowed as long as it?s not anything too obscure (or crap, obviously).

Chocolate to the value of about £2 each time.

Here is the list:
artifarti
aristocat
Dysgu
PistachioLemon
TheBuggerofSuburbia
stickylittlefingers
AgentProvocateur
LolaLadyBird
Itsjustafleshwound
pooter
muddleduck
LadyBee
FlyingMonkey
Maria2007
johnworf

johnworf is a new member so be nice!

As before, please email me at artifarti at hotmail dot co dot uk with the initials of your chosen book and author (e.g. ROTN by TH for Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy) so I can check there are no duplicates. I will assume all your name, address and chocolate details remain the same unless you tell me otherwise (johnworf, please send me yours)

Please do this on or before July 10th. Then I will email you all with the name of the new person you are to post the books to (we are reversing, for anyone that hasn't picked that up.)

No-one has indicated that they want to drop out so I am assuming not at the moment.
I have now read all the books so I am thinking about which was my favourite - so many good ones, a difficult choice.

hope everyone's OK, arti is DS better now? am hoping to post to you this week as book is ready to send Smile

artifarti · 24/08/2010 19:40

Thanks for asking aristocat, he is fine thanks, apart from the last of The Teeth. I, on the other hand, am still trying to catch up on all the work I missed hence not much MNetting!

Hope everyone else is good. RespecttheDoughnut - hopefully will post to you this week as on posting day I am off on a thoroughly ridiculous work trip - three days to go to Addis Ababa and back!

Maria2007loveshersleep · 25/08/2010 17:52

Three days to Addis Ababa & back? Sounds exciting although a bit mad (given the 3 days!)

We're having an attack of The Teeth here too. Loads & loads of dribbling & molars slowly & torturingly coming through.

Anyway, happy reading everyone :)

artifarti · 26/08/2010 18:09

No not exciting, three days in meetings, just mad and annoying!

Thanks aristocat received the choc and book today. I love your address stickers by the way - looks just like my cat (except he would never wear a ribbon!)

Dysgu - book looks interesting (although given your two choices so far I am beginning to suspect that you are a spy Wink)

OP posts:
aristocat · 26/08/2010 19:58

glad parcel arrived ok arti Smile at your cat being so cute.

have just read Too Close to Home and Fear the Worst by Linwood Barclay and they were very good. has anyone else read his books?

Dysgu · 26/08/2010 20:58

It looks like the first impression of my book this time round is 'interesting' which, I have to admit it positive as it could be deemed a rather unusual choice!

I am trying to find the motivation to get things sorted ready for going back to work next month - only a week and a bit to go and there seems to be so much I need to get organised. BUT it is so difficult to get anything done with two little girls running around me all day. And, of course, it is the summer so there are so many other things to do which are much more fun than planning for the new school year.

By the way, is anyone thinking about going to the Mumsnet Christmas Party? I have thought about it but am too scared to go by myself!

Must get on with my reading now - have to say, I have struggled with my book this month and am taking it away with me over the weekend to stay with friends who have no TV so maybe I will get into it!

Dysgu · 26/08/2010 21:00

PistachioLemon have you started a thread to discuss your book choice? I was just looking for it but couldn't find it.

I haven't finished the book yet (much rush to get through it before posting day!) so not really ready to post my comments - was just trying to think ahead.

PistachioLemon · 26/08/2010 22:48

Dygsu I think you're right, I shall start a thread now. And I think you're also right about the book - I agonised for ages and ages about sending it and now think that lots of people are going to hate it. Sorry!

PistachioLemon · 26/08/2010 22:52

Oh and Dygsu if you remember could you write my name in the front? I think I forgot to do it.

Dysgu · 27/08/2010 22:15

I will write your name in the book, PistachioLemon before I send it on next week.

Thanks for starting a thread, I will add to it next week - we are going away for the weekend so fingers crossed for some dry weather as we will be in the tent!

I think the best part of this book club (apart from the chocolate, of course Grin) is that we get to read books that we otherwise may not have considered or even picked up off the shelf!

You may have worries about your book, PistachioLemon but wait until you see my choice!!

Maria2007loveshersleep · 28/08/2010 05:50

I agree Dysgu with what you say about books we wouldn't be reading otherwise. I'm reading JohnWorf's book at the moment & I'm finding it interesting even though I would never have chosen it myself!

Maria2007loveshersleep · 28/08/2010 05:50

Sorry for the double sending. A MN blip (not my own fault :))

PistachioLemon · 28/08/2010 09:33

You're right, Dygsu and I'm really looking forward to your book now.

SLF Thanks for September's book and chocolate - and don't worry, the chocolate was not uninspired at all. I shall make chocolate brownies with it today (that is if I can hide it from DH long enough) so I'm very very happy with your choice. The book is a great book isn't it, I read it a while ago and really enjoyed it too.

PistachioLemon · 28/08/2010 09:34

Dygsu I forgot to say, have a great weekend. The weather here is glorious this morning so I hope you've got the same wherever you are.

artifarti · 28/08/2010 11:29

I also love this book club; there were some really interesting choices last year.

RespecttheDoughnut - posted your book etc. this morning.

Have a nice time camping Dysgu - also glorious camping weather here today. I am waaaayy too scared to go to the Christmas party!

DS is two tomorrow Smile so I am toy-shopping and cake-icing today. Feel like I have to make an effort as having to cancel his little party as DP has glandular fever. Sad What with this and foot and mouth last month I think I might have to paint a plague sign on our door...

Have a nice BH weekend everyone.

PistachioLemon · 28/08/2010 14:23

arti poor thing, hope DS is feeling better soon.

artifarti · 28/08/2010 14:28

Thanks PL but DS is fortunately fine and gearing up to stuff himself with cake. It is DP who is lying on the sofa whimpering and requesting things!

OP posts:
aristocat · 28/08/2010 20:16

happy birthday to DS tomorrow arti wow 2 already Smile ........
hope DP gets better soon

PistachioLemon · 28/08/2010 20:56

Oh dear, that'll teach me to pay more attention Blush. Hope DP is feeling better soon and that DS doesn't make himself sick with too much cake.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 29/08/2010 06:46

Arti, happy birthday to your DS :)

Really sorry though to hear about your DP :(... sounds awful. Hope he's better soon.

artifarti · 01/09/2010 20:55

POSTING DAY!

Hope everyone is well.

Hi everyone, just reminding Ladybee that I'll be late in sending the book as I'm on holiday in greece, returning on the 11th. Will send the book asap after my return. Really sorry for the delay!

RespectTheDoughnut · 02/09/2010 20:15

arti, I got the book & chocolate, thanks Grin

chandellina, I got my 17 year old sister to post yours on to you (long story) - she says she posted it yesterday, so if you could let me know when (if!) you get it I'll know not to throttle her when I see her Wink

stickylittlefingers · 04/09/2010 11:53

AP Many thanks for the chocolate (which is gone!) and book! I did read DMIS in German... I had a look on Amazon but only found an elderly and expensive English translation. That seems really odd given it's a reasonably famous book, and the reason I know it is that it was a set text for the Goethe advanced course... you would think it would be worth translating. Sorry, I had just assumed that there would be a translation knocking around.

PL glad you thought of something inspired to do with the chocolate! I should be more organised this month and will be hunting round Fenwick's food hall (selfless person that I am!! I love it in there!!)
